Here comes the snow!!!!
 

It looks like we're finally going to get a dose of winter. A little earlier than I expected, but I don't mind! Time to play in the snow with the beater car!! :)

How many people are glad that it's on a weekend? I wish it was a weekday, cause then I can get to work early and watch everyone else drag themselves into the parking lot! :mdrmed:

My other car (DD) is an '05 Subaru Baja Turbo... with snow tires... you tell me if I'm ready for snow? :lol:

8-14 inches! not sure whether to be excited or terrified -- normally i love winter driving, but that may be a tad too much for this 8!

well i quess it's time to take out the ole honda wagon and play it's my winter beater with
231,400 miles and won't die.so with remote start and a good set of winter tire's i'm ready..
still waiting on my ms exhaust but thats another story!

we all love our 8's so i hope most of you will not try and drive on the factory tires
this caused me to buy new rims sooner than i wanted to.was going up a hill in the
snow and some fool thought it was cool to hit the brakes and stop the flow of people who had got just enough speed not to get stuck!! :spank:

That's what the beater's for. Throw some sleds in the back and find the nearest hill. I'm glad it's on a weekend. Just wake up, grab a warm beverage of your choice, and veg out until it's time to sled. To all those who say I'm too old to go sledding.... :balls:

The snow just helps convince me to leave the 8 in the garage on jack stands and finally do my calipers and wheel hubs. I should probably clean the inside of the rims while they're off. And the interior in general. This is starting to sound like a lot of work. I hope we get a whole lotta snow.

I, for one, am screwed.
I'm supposed to pick up a 22 foot truck on Sunday morning (early) and load up for my trip out west.

Yes - sort of.
My car is there in the garage of my new house with my new kitchen cabinets and garage stuff all in boxes on the floor.
However, all my stuff is still here and I'm supposed to drive out with it on Sunday.
But now it looks like everything from here to Memphis is going to get dumped on and I don't know how well that big truck (towing a Miata, no less) is going to handle it.
I can't afford to wait past Monday morning, so hopefully it will all be clear by Sunday evening.

I did it in the RX-8 over X-Mas in 32 hours - some of which were at twice the legal speed limit.
I don't think I'll be doing that in the Penske...

yea drive safe out there, our car sucks in the snow.... and i hate snow :bootyshak haha that means i'll have to put the cover on the 8 and drive the pathfinder BOOOOO!

oh man. the snow was up to my damn knees. I decided to go grocery shopping with the 8 and made it. but had to carry a shovel in the trunk just in case and it proved to be very useful.

Control was good, though really hard snow proved to be difficult. I had to do alternate between 1st and reverse at times. I think it's the only time when I really miss my old A4. I'll definitely take the 8 out again when the roads are salted a bit more.

my 8 is buried in the garage by the plows and snow drifts.....just the way i like it...the beater is coming into play tomorrow!

Got about a foot down in Manchester, NJ. Boy do I love my Garage & Snow Blower. My Beater however is a little jealous.

We had almost 2 feet here. Shoveled the 8 out and tried to take off down the hill to where they'd plowed....high centered it in the snow. Had to do the shovel, slide, shovel, slide dance to get to open pavement. Not fun. Seems that 2 feet of snow is just too much for the car.

i went out last night to see my friends cousin's band play, left about 10 ish and roads werent too bad, just took it easy. on the ride home, roads were pretty bad, even at about 30 ish on the highway in 3rd gear, any bit of play on the go pedal would break her loose. and this was before we got the major accumulation. as it was, i couldnt pull into my driveway straight because we are on a slight hill, and it took about 30 minutes to park behind my roommates jeep, as i couldnt make it up the hill. here are a couple pics before i fully cleaned off the snow, i thought it looked pretty cool.

New Poster here... Just bought my RX-8 yesterday, and I took the GF out for the evening to meet up with some of "her friends". A few flurries here and there during the day so I wasn't worried about trekking out for the night, but after only one hour in the place where we met up with the others, someone had the idea that we should go to another place. In that hour, two inches of snow had fallen and it was still actively snowing.

Let's just say that I'd not yet had the chance to get any snow tires. :)

Fast forward about five minutes, on a well-trafficked road at a whopping 20mph, and with no provocation (i.e.- no sudden accelerator, brake or steering input) the car loops around 270deg, so I am now stopped at a 90deg angle to the oncoming traffic which is now aimed at my door. Almost unbelievably, as it was in the middle of downtown on a 4-lane one-way road with plenty of other traffic, I didn't hit anything and noone hit ME. *whew*

Fast forward another ten minutes of trying to simply limp the car home so we could take the GF's 4wd runabout instead of this rolling snowboard, and I'm finding the stability control going crazy while coasting down a SLIGHT incline at, umm, EIGHT MILES PER HOUR.

Eventually I considered what the Gods were trying to tell me and pulled onto a side street and parked the new girl for the night... The car that is, not the GF. Trekked on foot to the pizza shop two blocks away, ordered a pie and a cab home, and watched 40 Year Old Virgin in our comfy clothes instead of hanging out with the GF's pals. One could easily suggest that I did, in fact, get the better end of the deal. :kiss:

Got a lift from my friend to pick up the stranded Rotary Monster this afternoon and got home with no further incident.

Anyhoo... I'm now studying the Tire Rack website (and this one) quite intently. Kinda funny that it really hasn't snowed much this year, and now that I got a RWD car with summer tires... Well, you know the rest.

Glad to have found this site, it's quite entertaining and full of useful info. One piece of info that I have already taken to heart is "don't be an idiot and drive your RX-8 on its stock tires in the snow." :mdrmed:

i am assuming you have the 6 spd. i had the same issue, if i was coasting and didnt put it in neutral, the rear end would get really squirrly

btw, i have the bridgestone kdw, which are striclty summer, hehe

I left it in gear because I was worried about touching the brakes. Perhaps that's not the right course of action when you're driving a summer-tired car in 20deg weather with snow on the ground. You live and you learn.
