Why do you want to change out the rotors? Is your compression shot?

I dont like the compression ratio, i want to go for something around 8.5-8.7 area. My buddy back in kansas has an RX-7 with the shaft and rotors changed out and its been making 450hp reliably for 3 years now. he did this AFTER the apex seals went, but i just dont even want to wait for that.

That and I dont want the factory high compression to perform the "Normal" cracks around the leading plug @ 60k miles.......

Our engine will never make 450. There are some of us who have been close to 300 reliably for about a year and a half though without tearing apart our engines.

esmeril is putting 425 to the wheels on 13psi, and there are a couple guys that are close to 400. Its just a matter of building it right. I know im going to have to get something done about the nasty 90 degree bend in the exhaust port. I learned that the right parts make the power. My brother and I are parting out his 980hp civic, and that ran on 34psi. and there is a guy local who has the same pressure only putting down 550hp. I am just confident that our engine can do some things, I KNOW its going to cost, but at least ill be unique from all the piston pushers. I put nitrous on today to do some testing with EGT's and see if there is any detonation, or mild knock in there. If this motor CANNOT be done, then I think a 13b-rew is in order, or quite possibly going the sr20det route.

Have you read any of the reviews of the Esmeril kit?

yeah, its crap, but making a kit for yourself would be good, making a kit for others is where they bunk out on the crap. I wish they had a good ethic, but it seems only thier shop car is gonna get the quality. I am not going to get a "kit" none of my cars have ever had a kit on them. kits are crap, i am a firm believer in its your car, make it "YOUR" car. meaning, dont let other people do the hard stuff. and plus looking at how everyone designs the placement of turbos to be so low in the engine bay, they are not that bright. like the greddy kit, the turbo looks in line with the oil pan, not good. FRS or FPS or whatever thier name is, has thier mind right with top mounting the turbo. I imagine esmeril is taking the easy way out like greddy. i know the power is possible, but im uncertain about the longevity.

I just like to make mine look good. Not S-M-R-T enough to do all the engine work, that and I get enough performance out of mine stock.

I have a bad case of "keeping up with the jones". all my friends have a minimum of 450hp or run at least low 12's so im left in the bleachers at the track.

So does no one meet up around here mazda wise?

We do. It's just been the holidays, so things have slowed a bit. Once the weather kicks back in I'm sure they will. Actually Jan 17th is a Rotary meet. I think they are having it at Jillians

Jillians is a club/bar/arcade/restaurant thingie. I've only been there once and only for a few minutes while waiting for another place to open to go to a concert. I'm sure it'll pop up on google.

i'm starting to have issues too. seems like flooding on every startup and hesitation from a stop.

i think its 4 possibilities:
bad battery
bad alternator
bad starter
clogged fuel filter

it shouldn't flood after driving for 30 min and the battery should be charged up too. the car will eventually start if i pump the gas pedal a few times. so i'm thinking it may be the clogged fuel filter. any ideas?

it very well could be the fuel filter. my car was sitting for about 2 months with no fuel stabilizer and it ran crappy ever since then.

i could probably do everything myself but it may take longer. i could also just use someone to help motivate me.

all i did was an oil change. i mounted my oil senders while i did it so now i just need to hook up my gauges. i also installed the passenger side motor mount. i ended up putting OEM coils back in.
