Front plate in MA

I'm really getting jealous of seeing pictures these cars without front plates. I think it looks so much better. I was thinking about just chancing it and taking mine off. I'm not so worried about getting pulled over as I am worried about getting a ticket while parked on the street in Boston. Would parking enforcement officers bother to ticket for no front plate?

Also I don't believe there is an insurance surcharge for not having a front plate, but I'm not sure, can anyone confirm that? If there is I probably wouldn't chance it. Damn this forum :D, the front plate never even crossed my mind until someone mentioned moving it, now it bugs the hell out of me after seeing pics of 8s without it.

I've been running without one for almost a year now. Have never been pulled over or ticked for it in Eastern MA. I did get an aenal cop out toward Sturbridge who pulled me over for my front plate and window tint. I told him my front plate bracket froze and shattered and my dealer is backordered on them. I pulled the plate out of my backseat to show him, and he gave me a warning.

There are so many cars in Boston and so many people I don't believe the cops will bother to grab you on your front plate. Just be careful when you get to Western MA.

Your right on that one. The cops out here just look for excuse's to pull you over. They must be bored. One of my friends got pulled over because the cop said that one of his headlights looked a little dimmer then the other...tell me that ain't some BS. He got a warning to have it checked...

wrong, cops Can and Will pull you over. I've gotten a 75 dollar ticket 2 years ago. And got pulled over with a warning twice. Just leave the front plate on, it is just an excuse to pull you over and write you up for other violations (ie not having lincense on you, broken taillamp, among other things). The violations were in Dorchester twice and Quincy once. It also depends on when they are doing a crackdown, of which they will look for anything that is improper so they can look inside your car and check for warrents. Keep in mind, everytime they pull you over you waste an hour of your life. This also goes for clear corners, white-out rear lenses, mufflers, intakes and lowered suspension. Even if it's DOT legal, they'll stop you just in case. I used to drive a modded Eclipse, and boy did I ever get pulled over alot, propably twice a month in different areas. =(

Wow, and I thought I got pulled over a lot. I am thinking of getting rid of my B&B to make my 8 a bit quiter.

Now, that all being said, I live in Newton. I think Newton has one of the most aenal police departments in the area. I've never had a problem with them. I think a lot of it has to do with the car you drive and how you've modded it. If its dropped 4 inches, has 20s, and a ridiculous wing on the back, you are probably going to be a big target.

I've been thinking about it more and I'm probably just going to leave it on. If I ever go out for a beer I really don't want to get pulled over for something stupid like not having a front plate. Not that I condone drunk driving, but just having one beer is enough to make your breath smell and have to do a sobriety test if the cop wants you to. Just not worth it.

Never had an issue in 3 years with an M3, 1 year with an STi and 1 year with the RX8 in the metro Boston area.... depends how you drive. I have also lived in quincy, no issues there unless you are trying to draw attention to yourself with a coffee can exhaust out back.

Never had an issue on my Civic... I don't have it riced out, but my front plate holder is broken (for serious). I am too much of a lazy *** to fix it, so I drive with a rear plate only

But I still dont' run with one

Really don't have too many issues with it.

i don't know man...

my last car got it's front plate stollen in roxbury... and within a week had bout 10 ticket from being parked around boston... plus within boston people suck at parking, so it' acts as almost a bumper to those ********* who bump into up... but if you do do it... i suggest keeping the plate under your front seat, and when you park put it up in the window... and any ticket after that is definatley up for an argument in court...

I've never had a problem in Boston, and I go into the city on the weekends a lot. I must admint tho I never park on the street I always park in a garage. Most of the time PO Sq or the Pru. I keep my front plate in the backseat just in case.

Do you know any elderly people who are turning in a plate to RMV---green plate holders are not required to have a front plate-bet you didn't know that.

Ya, knew that, I've been on the lookout for a year, haven't found anyone. I'll pay good money for a green plate

Well don't park in DC. The parking meter enforcement people will write you a hefty ticket for no front tag while you are legally parked!!!

Hello to all you beantowners - went to Berklee many moons ago...

Same issue in Texas. I (and my 8) are out-of-state 90% of the time, and MS/LA are 1 plate states, so I run without. Must remember to put the plate back on when I drive back to TX, however; I'd hate to get a $200 citation. Don't know what the insurance implications are, though. I carry TX plates, but MS insurance.
