the reason you don't encourage behavior like that is quite simple. the OP is obviously still in high school and does not have the wherewithall to know when to play it safe and when not to. they start playing with machines that they don't understand the full extent of and get in an accident. that accident tends to be with innocent bystanders and there is just no reason for that.
if i thought the OP would really take it to the track i would be less abusive to his cause since the 8 is a fun car but that is not going to happen. in high school you're short on funds and common sense. those two items together make you think "why would i pay for a track when there's a perfectly good street right in front of me and my friends are just as dumb to race on it with me. plus i just got done watching the F&F and want to try to use my e-brake because it would just be sooooo cool."

so why would the NE forum be different than others? why would it be more accepted to street race here than in the discussion?

Careful man... when I got my car I was in high school and I wasn't a complete jackass with it. Ugh... people like the OP give high schoolers (especially guys) such a bad name. Then they wonder why their insurance is so high...

i think you hit the nail on the head. i was a high school guy too and know how much common sense most don't have. i would like to think i was pretty good but who knows. i was 15 when i got my license and 16 when i had my rx7 before getting my celica. of course i can tell you right now i never street raced and certainly wasn't looking for tips to take on my friends. who knows maybe i'm just too old and it was before F&F where everyone now thinks they can race and drift. i'll head back to my rocking chair and rest these 28 year old bones.

CTrx8 - regardless of age, race or creed, this forum is for the sharing of information. If someone asks a question it's better he get it from veterans that he can respect than from out of touch old timers that angiliy shake their fists in the air at the talk of a potential street race.
Give the kids the information, treat them with some respect and they will learn to do the same as they become more contributing members of society. I just don't agree with perpetuating this hating attitude on newbies and young drivers.
If they take their driving skills seriously and we assist in their search for knowledge, they will come to respect these machines. They will also understand how much more they need to learn and in what conditions (ie, track, strip, autocross).
Education is key.
Oh and CTrx8 I'm dying to see how you drive...

It wasn't a potential street race... he is street racing.
I'm not agreeing with hating newbies and young drivers, because I'm both.
He can't possibly take his driving skills seriously if he's street racing. Take it to the track.
Sure, they'll understand it... but what's going to be the cost first? An accident? I hope not. If he wants to learn about autocrossing, track, strip, etc... then ask about that. Not street racing.
I'm not saying I'm the best driver and I know if this kid wants to race, he's going to... but asking for advice on how to street race, where posting about street racing is against the rules, just doesn't seem... smart.

and what would you like to know about how i drive? do you think i'm an old fart who drives around like a granny or that i'm actually a street racer that is just looking down at young drivers and is a hypocrite? i'll tell you now, i have 13 years of driving under my belt and a level head on my shoulders so i know how to drive safely, spirited, and under proper control of my car. you will not see me street racing under any condition but will hear my redline beep when it is the right time to do so.

The results of a friend's street race from almost 20 years ago: Her car went out of control because she hit an uneven patch of road doing 90 in a 45 zone while racing a friend. The car flipped, she was thrown, her passenger was half thrown from the car when it landed on her. The passenger was killed, my friend was put in a wheelchair and has steel pins and plates where part of her skull used to be. Think about that the next time you decide to try to "beat that wrx". You're not invincible and neither are the bystanders who will likely get hurt when, not if, but when you lose control and wipe out. Buy some track time if you want to race.

and that is why we don't have street racing posts on this forum. we don't want to encourage and have the above happen and this is just going to turn into a flame war. i have nothing more to contribute and won't even bother coming back to the thread so i hope the OP will grow up but i don't foresee that happening.

speaking of rexs... i was at sears point (infineon) last weds night and got matched up to a wrx. i know for sure my reaction time was way faster than his. i ran a 14.87 1/4 94.3 trap speed and beat the wrx. i believe he ran a 15 flat. it was the best 1/4 mile i got with my 8 by the way, i normally run about l15.1 - 15.2, 16.4 being my worst (don't ask why), but last week was special. it was about a 63 degrees (rx8 ambient temp gauge) as we pulled up. i think it depends on the drivers if both cars are stock if you ask me. his wrx is stock and my rx8 is pretty much stock (see mods below). i know for sure my reaction time was way faster than his.
