Dealer inflicted damage - any experiances?

Had to take the 8 in for service to get the cooling and AC Fans replaced over the weekend, which sucked given its the second time they have blown.

But got the car back yesterday, seem fine until I walked behind the car...

The right rear has about 15 deep scratches on the bumper cover all the way down to the plastic / metal, and even worse the black plastic covering around the exhaust has 4 very deep gouges. The gouges make it look like the rear was dropped on something or when lowering it off the lift it scraped down on something.

Sadly use to really like the dealership and their service, but this is the second time something has been really screwed up on it. First time they spilled oil all over the engine bay, coating the enginer cover in oil. Yet no one mention anything until the burning oil smell appear and open the hood. They least with that had the engine completely cleaned and refunded the service done.

But this damage isn't something that can just be buffed out and will probably require new rear cover, fender repair and lower cover replaced.

Already called and bringing it back to them Tuesday to see the damage, but anyone have any dealings with dealerships regarding damage to the car during service?

Pics coming.

Yep, I had a small puncture in the driver's side seat when I got my car back once. I called them, they took it in and reupholstered my seat.

They must repair it. The only thing is whether or not you want it repaired there. They may do a half-*** job just to get it done. But I don't know what kind of standing you have to have them pay for somewhere else.

I'm guessing they have insurance for these things which means you can get it repaired anywhere you wish.

Ya they should fix it, or put the cost up to fix it. Just wondering how big of a fight it can be sometimes:

PICS!

There are many smaller finer ones to, even extending over to the fender portion.

Damn, I had a similar experience with my dealer. Wife took it in for an oil change, the following day on my way out of work I noticed a couple deep scratches on the rear bumper. Where I had parked that day it was impossible for another car to have hit me in that spot, and my wife assured me she parked it in a similar fashion at her work.
I never pursued it because there was no way to prove they weren't there before hand. It's a moot point now, my wife got rear ended in it yesterday, so it's going to need a whole new rear bumper. Problem solved !

Yep thought about it after seeing the scratches on the bumper that it was "possible" to be inflicted by a car.

however the marks on the black plastic could not have come from a car as the plastic is pushed upwards.

But dealer going to order new rear cover (which is the main black piece is part of) and get it painted possibly next week.

Also helped that the front still had all the greasey hand prints on it and still had my oil soaked engine cover to show that they have been careless before.....

sorry to read that happened to a fellow 8 owner.but this is how i always know if my car gets damaged from a dealer, parking lot etc..i always (weather permitting)clean my car off in the mourning before i leave for work with a micro fiber cloth and the evening before i leave my job i do it again.if your car is clean it won't take much time and whenever i took my car to the dealer they were always complamenting on how clean it always seem to be.lesson hopefully learned.i work at a dealer and it's very hard not to notice things when the customer brings in a clean car.i know they want it back the same way they dropped it off.there is never a question on damages when you make this a habit on your part and will always save you money in the end! i not really that **** about my car but i do hate the fact some people don't care about how they handle other peoples cars or trucks.hope they fix it right for you!

Mine has done it to me twice. The first time, they put a bunch of snags in my clear bra. They reimbursed me for that. A few weeks ago, I brought my car in for the sunroof recall and they gouged both front seatbacks, passenger front seat side, the center console, front overhead console, they also broke clips off of the side sill trim and scratched my roof. They replaced everything.

can I ask what dealer? sorry to hear about the damage- i had damage done at my dealer not long ago as well. Two huge scratches on the front of the car.

Its nice that they took care of everything and painted it, but the paint job was horrible. There was over spray all over the car (my car felt like sandpaper) and when i opened the hood and checked beneath the car, they didn't tape off or take the bumper off to paint it- so there was a great chance of peeling. I think they outsource these type of 'quick paint fixes' to just random guys, hence the quick and dirty job.

Karma works in funny ways though, as not 5 days later, I got comprehensive damage on my bumper from a faulty garage door at my office. Brand new bumper.

I still had to spend a day clay bar-ing the car to get all the overspray off though.
If they say they are repainting, see if you can just take it somewhere and send them the bill- trust me its worth it in the long run.

Bill Britt down in Fredericksburg.

They did a pretty good job painting the new bumper, and since it was new no over spray on the rest of the car. It matches the rest of the car well.

My appearance package side flares were damaged by the dealer's lift. I noticed it 1 week after the service when washing the car. Ther were peeling away from the rocker panel very slightly, and the bottom had a small ripple right neat the jack points. When I took it back, they drove it onto their lift to make sure the damage matched their equipment, and were very professional about it. The new ones went on last week.

i been working at dealerships for a good while and it's rare that some do what they do and it's refreshing when they take care of there customers the way they should always.i have often noticed kindness go's a long way with getting your car back to new when a dealer makes the mistake of damaging a car.i often help with these cases when a tech, salesman,or porter makes a mess.i don't mind having the company pay to keep the customer happy and returning for more service, parts or sales because a lot of people go out of there way to make it hard for us all.

What's the sunroof recall ? I recently had mine in for work on that as it was shuddering when it opened. The replaced the rail under warranty, however last weekend when I was Rain-Xing the sunroof I noticed scratches in the paint, some down to the metal, that lined up with the rails. I need to call them about it as there's no way that could have happened except when they did the work.

Having previously worked management in retail for about 6 years agree that kindness helps, though at times you can only be so kind.

So finally got around to cleaning my oil soaked engine cover that they spilled on earlier this year. Only to find out that the Battery cover is missing now.
What gives, can it not be in their hands once this year without something being screwed?

Update: They did find out what happen to it going thru the video of the parking lot. The porter or mech backed the car into little wooden posts that hold up a chain that goes around the outside of the lot. Supposely they docked the repair costs from his check and the service manager is now over at the VW side.

They haven't mention this to me, but that is the information friends that go there and saw my car being towed back got from some there.

Silvers are crused! or least mine is.

So the dealer that damage the rear also lost the battery cover.

Then went to a seperate dealership over the weekend and they lost the engine conver.

Wonder if painting the car a different color might help or if the cruse will still be around on it.
