CT tinting - possible group deal.

i'm looking to get some tint on the 8 (as well as my wife's car) soon and wanted to see who else might be interested from CT. i was at the tire shop a few weeks ago and ran into a guy with a modded is300 and his tint looked sharp. the guy he said he went to was a guy in Milford, CT.

i went in to see what he could do and he has said that if i do both my car and my wife's he would cut us a deal. i'm wondering if there is any other interest on here to see if we could all get a better deal. the place is Coastal Tinting so if you have heard anything good or bad about them i'd also like to hear opinions.

so far what he has given for prices per car is:

non-metallic: regular price = $200, discounted = $185
metallic: regular prices = $245, discounted = $220

these discounted prices are based on both cars being done the same day. i'm sure if we get some interest and get commitments he could do better. let me know what you all think.

i got my 8 tinted the day after i got the car.

i went in with me and my friend's car and we talked the guy down from 185 to 130 with lifetime warranty. but this was in late december.. i don't know if that affects the price..

i'm not sure what price would be waayy better. i can go to bridgeport and get a tint job for $100 but i chose to go to a guy whose work i have seen, seems to do a good job, and has been around for 18 years. this guy will probably go down on price but only if he has committed people as he doesn't want to admit that he'll drop the price if we don't actually get the people. but i think a lot of people will just want to feel it out and see just how low he will go which also isn't fair to him since he has a business to run.

by the way both of those tints have lifetime guarantees i believe (i know for sure the metallic one does). i'll be talking to him again during the week and will ask him that along with any other questions you all have. also, when is limerock so i know what timeline some of you will be on? i'd like to get it done before the NE spring run personally.

Oh fine, I was going to wait but I'm in too. So I guess we have 3 RX-8s down for tinting so far.

^Regarding commitment: I'll definitely get it done, its just a matter of how much tint.

Also I think the event that j67345 is referring to is May 25th to 28th.

when i talk to him i'll see if he can have a few good cars onsite that we can look at as examples. when i was there last there were a few but i think this can be his chance to try to showcase his work. he will tint as dark as we would like but will remind us that CT law states 35% for all sides and whatever we want for the back.

if memory serves me correctly he has 35%, 20%, and 5% available in both types. the metallic seemed to be much darker and from what he said and what i've been researching that seems about right because it's reflecting more light. i'm still undecided but leaning toward 35% for the sides and 20% for the back.

so far we have four definite RX8s (CTrx8, j67345, Shinka-Dono, fitz75) and one maybe (wicked1044). i'm going to see if the guy can squeeze me in today to talk since i'd rather have a face-to-face so he doesn't think i'm just blowing smoke.

as for timing i would say Saturdays will probably work best for schedules so either 5/5 or 5/12 since i will be out on the spring run 5/19 and the following week is limerock. i don't know where the time goes but we're almost into May. if you all prefer to try to push this up to this Saturday (4/28) let me know but it will also depend on this guy's availability to get 4 of us done and my wife's accord. in a worst case scenario we can get all of you set up and i could get another day for me and/or my wife since we're local to the shop but i'd love to get a shot of all the 8s together.

Either date is fine with me, may even have him do my bf's Mazda 3 too, the rear windshield only, as he's intent on doing doing the other windows himself...

let me know if the 3 will be included and try to convince him not to do it himself unless he does it for a living. i've seen too many bad tint jobs done by those who thought they could tackle it on their own. i am talking to the guy after work today and will only mention the definites but will let him know others may join in the fun.

All I can say for now it would be the rear only, ironically we had a disagreement over tinting yesterday afternoon, so he is doing his 3 himself and depending on what the outcome is he'll either have someone do the rear windshield only or the whole car if he's unhappy with his results...

okay, so i talked to the guy today. i guess he was recently burned by a few who said they were going to come in and never did so he's hesitant to give out a group discount without everyone there or putting down a deposit and i guess i can't blame him. he also has limited hours (11am-5pm) on saturdays and will only take 3 per day.

he only has one slot for this saturday and since he hasn't done an 8 before i have volunteered to be the guinea pig this weekend unless anyone else wants to do it. at that point he'll have a frame of reference on how long it will take to do each one and can better estimate how much more (if any) of a discount he can give based on time spent. it will also help him to know if he can get the other 3 8s done in a day along with the 3 or if we have to break it up into two separate weekends.

let's see, answers to other questions i had for him:

-there is a lifetime guarantee for peeling, chipping, bubbling, and fading for both types of tint
-the back windshield will be one piece
-he will not do the moonroof
-if anyone wants the front sunshield let me know but it will be two pieces and not sure how much he will charge for that

let me know if anyone else has any questions, concerns, comments or if anyone else wants to join the party. by the way, which town/city is everyone coming from? do you all know what percent tint you're going and metallic vs. non? if he wants to take a deposit to make sure we don't flake out on him, is anyone opposed to that?

I'm game for the first saturday that he can do it (Thanks for being the guinea pig, too!)

If he needs a deposit, I'm game....I'll be coming from Granby...where is his shop located?

nice, when you get the rest of the details, let me know!

Oh yeah...I'd do the 35% on the fron & side...and 20% on the back (I think that's what you're doing, right? I'll do it as dark as I can and still be legal...I dont want to ever have to tear it off the windows!)

I can leave a deposit - I can wait until May to have it done. I will go with non metallic.

Right. A deposit sounds fine.

So he'll take 3 (depending on the results of this weekend with your 8) on Saturday, May 5th. And we have 3 after yours. Sounds good.

I am coming from Northford which is North Branford but we call it Northford because its location is a secret.

If I've got it right the tint shop is here .

I'll have details regarding metal or non and percentages later this week. I have not yet decided.

Carry on.

35% for all sides is the legal limit and rear is anything. i'm thinking i will likely do 35% on the sides and 20% for the rear so i don't get hassled. plus the factory "tint" should help it look a little darker anyway.

that would be the place. there's no need for anyone to make final decisions on what type or percent but i wanted to get a general sense of what people were looking at for theirs.

Did any decision get made whether this place needs a deposit? I'm definitely planning on getting it done there on 5/5 (assuming your tint job this Saturday looks as good as we're hoping it will turn out!)

I am interested in a light tint more as a temperature control thing vs a cool look thing. Do you guys think a 15 percent tint would make a noticeable difference in cabin temp?

it probably would but 15% is pretty dark. do you mean 85%?
