Hello local Columbus RX8 owners. Newbie here, and just wanted to introduce myself to the locals. My name is Brian and I live in Westerville. I'm currently in the market for something sporty to drive in the summer and on weekends, sort of a toy to compliment my existing vehicles. I've got 2 small boys (age 8 and 11) and want something that gives me the flexibility to carry the wife and boys when the need arises (therefore eliminating anything witout a backseat). I current drive an 08 Honda Pilot and the wife has an Odyssey, but I've previously owned some sporty cars (Acura Integra and an 04 Mazda 6S)

I just drove my first RX8 the other day, and I gotta say I was very impressed. I think the RX8 is gong to be one of the leading candidates for my mid-life crisis car (I just turned 4-0). Just wondering a couple things.... do any of you C-bus locals know anything about a Titanium Gray 04 GT that is for sale at Immke Honda? It seems nice, but I'm a bit concerned about the fact that it has had 3 owners and has been involved in a minor accident according to Carfax. Also, I noticed a few issues on my test drive: 1) The plastic engine cover (that says Renesis) is MIA 2) Rear taillight is filled with moisture (is this common? If so, is there a fix, or simply need replaced?) 3) One of the dash vents is broken.

My next question is does anybody know of any other 04-05s for sale locally that appear in good condition? I would prefer a GT, and it has to have a manual transmission & a sunroof, but I'm flexible on most other options/colors. Prefer under 50K miles. Autotrader shows quite a few outside of Columbus, but in the Columbus metro area, the choices seem pretty slim. If anybody has seen any locally that they might recommend, let me know.

If you are still reading this, thanks for sticking with me, and sorry for the long intro!!!

I actually bought this car on 01-17-09. What I find funny is you know more about it than I do! I had no clue about the center vent. It is not a big deal that not all the fins move up and down, I never like to use the upper vents. It was somewhat an impulse buy. One impulse that I do not see myself regretting.
One question I have is I was so gun ho that I didn’t look at a car fax….

Can you fill me in on the minor accident?

I got a great deal on it and I am having the dealer replace the under body plastics and wheel well as they were damaged. Also I am getting the tail light looked at and all the recalls checked on, and new wiper blades. In fact i need to call them this min to see if its in so it can get done along with a oil change.

O and I am new here too =P

That is too funny. Congrats on the purchase. I'd love to know what you paid for it. PM me the price if don't want to post it here. I see they now have a black one. The only reason I didn't buy the gray one was that my wife might kill me with that kind of impulse buy.....although I'm still looking.

Regarding the accident, all it said was "minor accident" that occurred somewhere in Michigan. The damage was listed to the passenger side front end. It didn't give any more detail than that. I do believe that carfax defines "minor" as usually cosmetic damage that doesn't impact the drivability of the car, so I don't think it was anything too serious.

I would stay away from the black one... It is damaged. Passenger side rear and they want more for it!
I got it for 14k out the door with warranty.
I am already looking for window tint, intake, and exhaust

Yeah, I had a car detail planned last weekend since it was sooooo nice. One of my wives friends called needing help moving. She was broke so I gave in. Heck, I haven't moved myself the lat three moves but you do for friends cause that's what it is all about.

Take care,

Brian

Brian - Isn't this the car you just traded in last month? http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/1030096854.html

ROFLMAO!!!!!

OK, I traded it in to Hatfield Subaru. I followed it in AutoTrader the next few weeks. It made me feel good as they listed it for 1K more than I got as the trade in. I also got waaaay below BB on the STI (I mean waaaay under).

I just called the seller and he is stating the sound system was upgraded by the past owner (It was but I took it back to stock), he stated the rims were "racing" rims, he also was trying to pass it off as a non-sport/base model. When In pressed him, nicely, on it he got flustered and stated he wasn't sure.

Man that would suck, buy a new to you car and in under a month have to punt (It still has temp tags on it). I wonder if maybe it was a rotary thing (lack of torque/etc) and he is panicking as he did not do his homework prior to purchase. Take it out to the twisties man and feel that thing drive!!!!!

I still love that car, it just looks so....sexy baby!!!

Still have a few small parts for sale (shameless FS thread plug).

Take care,

Brian

Hey Go Steelers,

Still looking to buy an RX-8?

I have a 2004 Sunlight Silver Grand Touring less than 50,000 miles with all the options you are looking for plus it has the factory navigation system. There are minor subtle upgrades done to the lighting and mine has the engine cover. lol Actually mine has the silver 40th anniversary engine cover that matches the exterior paint. It is very clean and stock. The car is 100% paid off and I have the title in hand, so there is no finance company nonsense to worry about.

I also have the authentic MazdaSpeed Sunlight Silver side skirts brand new still in the box. I have the MazdaSpeed shocks all 4 brand new in the box. I have brand new still in the box Eibach Pro-Kit springs and a few other things. I want to sell it all in one package.

The only thing the car needs is a new battery. Which I was going to replace anyway before I put it up for sale. So, I will take care of the battery.

The guys here all, well most know me. Ra, Huh, Anthony and Twisted have all seen my 8.

I was going to list the car on Autotrader and Cars.com in a couple weeks. I saw you were looking and thought I would see if your interested.

I am asking $16,200 firm. That's the whole package of everything I mentioned. I just put a new battery in the car Saturday.

Plus, I forgot to mention I have a complete 2006 factory stereo upgrade to go with it. The upgrade is for Sirius Satelitte Radio, six disc changer and the cassette deck and all trim panels. I also have the Sirius factory Mazda install kit. The 2004 8's factory stereos were not Sirius ready. All the parts are brand new. The factory stereo upgrade parts alone is around $900.

My car has the factory Mazda chrome fuel door. The fuel door is no longer made and new was about $200. I also have the factory illuminated shift ****. Still brand new in the box. It goes for $280.

I also have the Mazda Certified Warranty. 8yrs - 100,000 miles. The mileage is a little over 43,000.

For a car in as good of condition as mine and all the parts it's a more than fair price. Almost $3000 in parts alone.

Jason, if you go out early in the day on a cold day wouldn't you be able to "see" the leak?

Take care,

Brian

So you guys think it is safe to switch from the SNow tires to the regular tires yet? I am eager to get them changed out so I can get my free alignment from firestone (lifetime alignment service).

I'm willing to bet, we'll have at least one more snow storm left this winter. There's always one left in March.

I always wait until the end of March. If we get an April storm, I'll stay home until it melts!
