Anybody want to go to Englishtown Wed 9/26?
Hey guys,
I just bought an 04 RX-8 GT w/ 26K miles, and I'm picking it up tomorrow (Saturday). I was thinking of going to englishtown on Wednesday to get some baseline runs and see how fast the car is to begin with.
It's essentially stock, so I figure a couple of quarter mile runs can will show me how well the car is running. Hopefully I can get close to some of those times posted in the magazines, like 14.6 or something. Just like everybody else, I have big plans for the car. I hope to do some work to it over the winter and put up some good numbers when the track re-opens in 2008.
I know I didn't buy a drag car, but I just want to be in the 13's to be happy (with some sort of FI). I looked at a few different cars, and the RX-8 was the cheapest and best looking, even though it was the slowest. I considered 350Z's, G35's, S2000's, and the RX-8 just had all of the features that I wanted. With the amount I saved on the car, I can make it just as fast as the others in the bunch.

Man, that sucks that you got rear ended. Was is totalled?
I am so embarrassed by my times. Here is my best timeslip:
RT - .105
60' - 2.283
330 - 6.504
1/8 - 9.977
MPH - 70.49
1000 - 12.957
1/4 - 15.464
MPH - 89.72
Now, in my defense, I didn't do a burn out since I didnt want to waste my new tires, and I came straight from work, so the car had an hour of commuting heat in it. But still, I'm so unhappy with my times! I used to be much better at dragging.
I also weighed the car and it was 3278 with me and all of my normal junk in it.
For comparison, I ran a stock V6 firebird weighing 3550 lbs at 15.1 a few years ago. Those only have 200 horses, but much more torque. I later supercharged that car and ran a 13.9.
Soooo, turbo time? I really want to run 14's before dropping 4 g's on a turbo. I'm going to go back to the track in a few weeks when its colder out to see if I can knock those last 4 tenths off. Maybe I'll beat on the clutch a little more on the launch too.
