If the starter is the issue, maybe we'll see a DIY Starter Rebuild soon.

Guess you should have inserted "then remembered that I dont know jack" to this line also

That idea started several years ago when I tore one apart trying to find the flaw.
Everything measured within tolerance and we found out later that the upgraded starters utilized a larger motor and the N3H1 models just didn't have the ***** required.

Yes... we used to consistently meet-up every month, now its not so "planned".
Our local scene has died down much since the beginning.

Hi Gunz. Welcome to the forum!

The group meets up on occasion and just met up at Dave and Busters a couple weeks ago. There's usually an attempt at least every other month but now it's mostly special occasions. Occasionally when people are doing work on their cars they invite people in the group to help out or to just hang out and learn as well. There are also a handful of the group who autocross on Sundays up at Northfield Park.

Where are you about in Akron and what year/color 8 do you have? I'm over in Bath on the West side. I sold my RX8 in 2009 but if anything that's caused me to keep an eye on every 8 in the neighborhood.

If you have questions about your 8 and you don't want to ask them out in the rest of the forums ask here. It's generally a kinder and more patient audience, particularly for questions that have been asked a thousand times, than some of the folks on the general forums. Between Jon, Doc, Steve, Brian, Mach, etc. every part of this car has been upgraded, repaired, lost, broken, and prodded.

Megan broke my Borla* so I was stopping in to see if there was a description of how it happened. Not exactly an everyday occurrence. I don't think even Steve has managed to break a catback. Also see random references to interwebs drama from a few weeks back and have a vague idea it had something to do with a going away/birthday bash invite and then disinvite or whatever.

Catching up on some of the progress with the 16x, the Lifestyles of the Poor and Turboless staring MM, and all the racing/autox you bastards are doing that I'm so not jealous of.

*She probably didn't break it but it is broken so I just assumed...

Hmmm. We've already got one of those. Always room for one more, though.

Good day at BeaveRun yesterday. On track with everything from Formula Fords to a Lamborghini to a stock car and everything in between.

Major props to Doc for loaning out the trailer to help a friend in need.

By the way, is anyone interested in coming out to the Grand Am finale at Mid Ohio this year? It's Saturday, September 17.

It's a little weird that some of the local Mazda folks run corrals at many different tracks around the country but historically the turnout at Mid O among the local Cleveland-Akron RX-8 crowd has been next to nil. It would be great if we could turn that around.

It really is a good time, and with Castrol coming on board with the corral this year we really saw it kick up several notches at Lime Rock. Everyone buying a corral ticket for Mid Ohio will go home with a case of Castrol, and those not afraid to find out that their mods really don't appreciably increase the hp of their rotaries can get two pulls on a dyno for $20. (Proceeds to charity)

I didn't realize they were having the finale here this year. Wasn't Utah hosting that the past couple years or are they rotating it? I watch every race but never seem to be able to keep up with the changes or news about it. Mid-Ohio seems like a bad choice to me. They normally want a race where there's a lot of passing opportunities. But at least the better drivers will actually have an edge there IMHO rather than just the better cars.

I may try to go down for the race even if I don't qualify as a Mazda owner anymore.

Did you need to tow your car to the track or did you have to tow it home? I'm assuming it's the former. Did it help take time off your laps not having to worry about driving it home?

Yeah, Miller's off the schedule this year. Not sure why, but I'm not sorry to see it go.

It wasn't me that Doc helped out. I'm still driving to and from. Hell, if I had the funds and space for a trailer and truck to tow it with, I'd get an old MX-5 and jump in with both feet. Someone else suffered an engine failure so they got towed back.

It'd be great if you made it out to the Emco! You're always welcome at the Mazda tent.

It did tend to underwhelm. Trading that for Road America is a great move. Minus the problem with that Camaro losing its breaks and Foster getting hurt I thought it was a fun race.

Linky on accident for anyone who doesn't watch:

That sucks. Glad it wasn't yours and that it wasn't anything worse than an engine failure. And how many sports cars are you allowed to own? I think two is the limit even if one is technically not yours.

Hey all... been a few weeks.

Looks like Timmy gave up on swapping the engine:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...47#post4022847

Ryan: No, I never did manage to break a cat back... damage it: yes. Never broke it.
From seeing where it broke, it had to be from some massive stress on the weld seam connecting the final exhaust pipe to the muffler outlet. It doesn't look like impact or heat stress... so I have no idea how they did it...

Doc and Tom: Sounds like you guys are running with the big dogs out there. Congrats to both of you on good seasons to this point it sounds like!

Don't worry RK I will roll down to the race with your RPF1's on so that at least a piece of your car will be present.

Last year was a blast, but I think we need more of us there this year for sure.

Thanks, Where do you work at? I'm just in town on vacation for the next few weeks. Heading down to Virginia where I work at. You think there will be anything going on in the near future?

Pulled the cabin filter out of my car and found a nice mouse nest made out of the heat lining from my engine bay. I'm going to super glue mouse and rat poison all over the inside of my engine tomorrow.

probably on the bottom of the "best car mods" list but it's an option... though breathing vaporized rodent killer might make for some not fun times while out and a about.
