An oil filter? What's that?

vb

Yes, Jon, I had the filter replaced. I didn't buy one on my own though. Looks like they used a Champ Labs (part PH2876) which works for me.

http://www.champlabs.com/products/oilfilters.html

When I picked it up this morning from Lastoria's the first words out of the guys mouth was, 'You know you gave us the wrong weight oil.' My response, 'No. Mazda gave me the wrong weight.'

Heh. Then he cracked a joke about my car always saying 'Hmmmmm'. Nice guys. Only the second time I've had them do anything wiht my 8 but I bring my Exploder there pretty regularly. I don't know how good of work they do but at least they get it done when they tell me they'll get it done. He also said they're a Castrol shop and he doesn't know why I'd go with that Royal Purple stuff (and he wanted to know where I got it).

That big of a difference eh? I asked at Park Mazda if it was supposed to be chunky and their like "Yup...all sports cars have really chunky transmissions so you know that you are going into gear." I just let it go at that point...there was no point in fighting about it. Ben said he would do a fluid swap for me for a beer...but the bastard hasn't been around. Zup wit dat?

Not so loud as to be painful, but if she's the sensitive type you might want to bring some earplugs. It's certainly not anywhere near "rock concert loud." You don't come away with your ears ringing.

I did notice during qualifying today that the older Pontiac GTO that runs in the GT class was ALOT louder than the other cars.

Incidentally, the 69 Speedsource car qualified second and the 70 car fourth.

Well... I decided to do a little prototype run with my camera for my "Stock Cat vs MazSport's Dual-Resonated Mid-pipe" video.
I took this at night thinking that the traffic would be minimum, but at times the camera goes out of focus with there being such little light.
I will probably redo the video during the daytime.
At the end I recorded how I mounted the camera's tripod inside the car for you guys.
After uploading it to YouTube and watching it, I noticed that the scrolling text color didn't work out as well as I'd hope, so that'll be changed in the next revision.
It looked just fine at full screen after encoding on my computer, but it looks like when you upload videos to YouTube, they change the resolution of the video, so the 3D red texts I used looks blurry

Let me know what you think so far...

That was actually really good. The text was fine IMHO. Better than most Youtube vids and the in-out-of-focus was barely noticeable. I mean people are clicking to hear the noise so they're not gonna care much about the sight...

I looks like you're using a wide angle (HD), right? And Youtube compresses it. I wonder if you can do a native 4:3 480i? Again not important for this kind of thing.

Oh and Akron cops are always out.

I wish I could remember the HD video site that they plug on Diggnation right about now. Ah well...I will look it up for you later Jon...after I get back from Mid-Ohio.

Thanks!
The "in-out-of-focus" wasn't noticeable because I did ALOT of cropping and found ways to blend it to look like a transition into the next scene.
You're right, people are watching it for the sound... I'm just picky!

GOOD CALL! I was using 16:9 to record that! Boy did I overlook that one.
I'll record the next revision in 4:3 and see how that looks on YouTube... thanks for catching!

Ah yes... Diggnation!
I don't really keep up with it, but I loved watching Kevin Rose when he was on The ScreenSavers (he was the one who inspired me to hack my X-Box).
Boy do I miss The ScreenSavers back when Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton were hosting (and Morgan Webb looked HOT with that light hair color)!
Damn G4tv for ruining it.... :sigh:

G4TV is bad...really bad. You really should keep up with it...then you wouldn't be in this position. :P I tried to find a list of past and present sponsors but it wasn't in there. They had some HD YouTube replacement as a sponsor once. Changing the video to 4:3 should help a little. Their compression still sux *** though.

Yeah... once G4tv changed The ScreenSavers to Attack of the Show (which is such a stupid name) and then booted all their intelligent people (like Yoshi), I got frustrated and didn't really keep up.
I did watch Leo Laporte on Call For Help (which was only broadcasting in Canada after G4tv booted that program too).
I'll poke around Digg's site and try to find it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks DeViLbOi...
I've already subscribed to Diggnation, Tekzilla, Systm, and PixelPerfect (mainly because these shows host people I remember from TechTV).
Seeing names like Jessica Corbin, Sarah Lane, and Martin Sargent brought I smile to my face!

Leo has a radio show in Cali. Check out TWiT.TV. I had it on my iPod for a while but at 2 hours an episode I didn't listen to it enough.

Will do... thanks!
My iTunes is working overtime downloading all these podcasts!
And I thought watching a weeks worth of TV on my DVR was bad enough... but I'll like these more!

When that special effect transition with the bouncing ball occurred I thought for a second you were about to hit some animal jumping over the guard rail. haha

Nice video though, I like how the exhaust rattle is attributed to the rx8 itself.

This thread has really taken off since I last visited this site...which was probably in '05!

I still have my '8 (purchased 4/04), although I plan on putting it up for sale at the end of July...can't say that it's been a rough 4 years of ownership, though :D

Well I finally finished reinstalling the Corksport Kit and the Mazda Flip Screen dash (not the motorized one) with my xenarc touchscreen everything is wired up and ready for my mac mini which will be going into the car as soon as my 24" imac comes in. I still need to barrow my friends digital camera so i can take some pics I know you would think being a network administrator and having all kinds of computer crap I would have a digital camera. Oh and four weeks ago somebody hit my car in a parking lot and did about 800 to the driver door. They guys at Bass Mazda in Sheffield did a great job on it.

One question I know most of you guys probably detail your cars your self but like most things I've never waxed or polished a car before and was wondering if you guys know any good places to get a car detailed. Thanks

Hah. Technically since I don't have a hose I end up doing it at various family member homes.

I'd recommend doing it yourself and using the Zaino kit. If you can spend a full day (6-8 hours) and around $100-150 you can do a exterior detailing yourself. The money spent will mostly be on products that you will be able to reuse. If you're only driving your car in the Summer then once a year is fine. If you're driving it 12 mos then twice a year works.

It's a helluva a lot more satisfying too.

There are other, less expensive products that you can use as well and get a good result. I went with Zaino because it was a full package purchase and there's a lot of good information on how to apply/use it. Its also a polish that works on any item that is clearcoated so you don't have to worry as much about over applying. If you go with a wax you have to be careful not to apply it anywhere other than the body of the car (ie. b-pillars) otherwise it can leave a residue.

Oh and Zaino smells good. Here's my pics:

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=104

I've done another coat since them but it's held up very, very well. Unfortunately I forgot to take pics. I should have since my car has the clear corners now. Oh well.

Thanks for chiming in with that Marlon. I was just coming over here to post up.

Hey now, we're not all scary. I may be slightly goofy, and possibly a tad bit crazy, but my doctor lets me out every now and then so it can't be all bad

Well Ryan I hope you had fun tonight hangin with the 6 guys. They definitely are a group that is unique. Hopefully Brian didn't scare you off and you will come hang with us again next month. I apologize to anyone else that attempted to join us that didn't have my number. Due to a "******* bitch" at the Winking Lizard we got thrown out before the party even started. Lucky for us we had a wonderful waitress across the street at Red Robin that put up with us, well Brian really, and actually kept serving us alchamahol. :P Except for me...because I suck. :P
