To get to the plugs remove the front drivers side tire. Remove the inner fender liner and they will be right in front of you. You may even be able to push the boots without remove the fender liner with your little *** hands. Also take off the top accordion tube from your intake and verify the connections to the coils. I am going to say that you probably need 2 coils...but checking everything else makes sense. A compression check wouldn't be bad but the dealer will only pay for it if you fail and need a new engine. Ive heard prices from $150 to $300 throughout the forums so who knows for sure.
TJ- There are a few of us locally who have messed with the ignition and can show you how to check it.
What John mentioned above is correct, but you also need a "feel" for what the ignition wire does when it actually snaps into place.
Its sometimes difficult to just visually look at it and tell if its fully inserted or not.
Like I said, if this is outside of your comfort zone, one of us can show you.
And we can bring extra coils to swap out too.

I should be available Thur-Sat.
I can bring tools to help with the coils (like a swivel, extension, and my Fluke meter), other than that just basic shop tools.
We have a few owners between Strongsville and Akron, so if anyone wants to join in on the fun and let us borrow their garage, we can at least meet half way.

Not really... but some people have asked to participate/watch to better understand how stuff works and how to repair something if they every encounter it.
I'm giving them the option to be involved if they want to.
I don't mind sharing knowledge... its the best way to learn and improve yourself.
Plus with my living situation, I'm not big on doing work at my house (though it was quiet when we worked on John's car).

Fri - Sun is the GrandAm race at MidOhio. You could always drive down there and hang out with us.
btw...saw a Black 8 this morning in Willoughby. Debadged and waiting for a system install. Had Cali plates on it though.

MidOhio Sports Car Course...Lexington, OH. I know Tom, Amy and I are going down on Fri and will be there all weekend. Ryan is set to be down on Sat but may be back on Sun. We all went last year and it was bunches of fun. If you do decide to go make sure you get at least a paddock pass. We will be parked in the infield corral area if you want to join us, it does cost extra though. For the full weekend it is $60 for everything and it is about an hour...hour and a half drive for you.

Does anyone know if the "father-son" pairing has to drive the same car? I assume they don't, but still curious.
I'll offer up my place in West Akron/Fairlawn too. I have a 2 car garage and a fridge of beer. Just don't expect me to offer any kind of advice. An air filter swap is an all day task for me.
I think I'm going to end up not using my tickets/paddock passes on Sunday so if someone wants to use them I can leave them with John on Saturday. I've got the Mazda Owner pass and a weekend pass w/Paddock pass. Pretty sure the owner pass doesn't get you anything the other gets you on Sunday (Saturday it does).
John we'll have to figure out how we can swap passes on Saturday. And does the Mazda Owner pamphlet have anything about the schedule of events? Want to make sure I get there in time to do a parade lap (assuming it doesn't get cancelled like everything else seems to
).

Ryan - We need to swap before Sat as the paddock pass is on the ticket and gets removed and replaced with a wristband. I don't know how this is going to work because I still need to pack for both trips. Any chance we can work something out for tomorrow during the day downtown or something?

Looks like Friday I will be going to the west side to leave a car at my parents. Tomorrow I am just packing and helping some friends move so I can swing by in the afternoon somewhere. Up to you...let me know.
Father son paring does not have to be the same car.

Hell, father/son teams don't even have to be related. Cutoff age for father is 40 and son is 39. So in theory you could have a team with a 40y/o dad and a 39y/o son.
Well now I'll be at work all day Thursday and Friday so whatever works for you. Noon on either day works fine. Just give me a call before you leave so I know I'll be around. Best bet it so meet me on Superior between E9th and E6th.

haha so is this ^^ like a *wink wink* if anyone wants to help out with this?
I'll be sure to bring my tools.
