Yeah... PCM...

EDIT: with a 2nd glance, it could pass a Military Spec armored original 8 bit Nintendo.

I recognize it from having to remove it to change my parking lights the first time because I wasn't smart enough to think to try my other hand......

remember, the little box goes on top! And remember to reconnect the air duct to keep it cool. I noticed I forgot to do that when I had it out last.


and what are those other things in the picture... clutch pedals?

And the coolant tank is tied forward until I can get most of the fluid out (before I disconnect the hose underneath).

Why'd you have to pull the PCM? Or did you just do it for S&Gs? I don't even know where that is in the bay.

And ya know it's OK to take some Simple Green and a rag and give your engine a nice little wipe down...



And on a semi-serious note is the upper left pulley rusting or is that just some discoloration on the front of it?

Its difficult to get the clamp off the hose that runs from the coolant tank to the pump.
Its between the PCM and battery box.
The battery box can't be removed unless this hose is removed because there are two bolts underneath the hose.
So it went like this:
  1. Remove PCM box to clearly get to the hose clamp
  2. Remove hose and tie out of the way
  3. Remove two bolts holding the battery box to a braket (and one bolt inside the box)
  4. Now, coolant tank can be removed

That's OK... its an engine compartment.

whoa... going all out, huh? Those sound like they could be fun projects. I've never changed a clutch before... I think I'd like to see that. Not to mention the flywheel.

ya i just decided it's not worth risking the 8. Ohio winters are not gentle on cars that sit 6" or less off the ground. My tibby took a beating. swore i wouldn't do that again if i could avoid it.

Wow Jon, got all kinds of goodies there don't ya?

You doing the clutch replacement yourself? good times!

Actually... we've never had to try the plasma... we've used the oxy-fuel torch on the exhaust and brakes though.
If I could remember how to use the Plasma, we would have tried it.


yea........ maybe you don't want me near your clutch.

Oh that's right!
I saw what the oxy-fuel torch can do to the underside of a car, couldn't imagine what the plasma would have done.

lol, it may as well be a track... i was pretty safe about it as well. I did it on a dry day above 40 and i didn't pass anyone while doing such speed... i hit 100 pretty regularly though in my highway driving. There is this 5+ mile long section of 2 lane highway out by me thats extremely low traffic, all concrete, and the speed limit is already 65 there.

BTW, ive never been pulled over even for a warning, let alone had a speeding ticket.

PS... POS camera phone, im looking at upgrading to the omnia (5mp)

Well... my first project I had planned for the car will have to wait.
I was out buying supplies yesterday but had a thought......

So one of my project will be to permanently plumb the washer fluid tank to the intake manifold's maintenance ports.
I wanted to go with a solenoid valve so I can switch the fluid direction from within the car, but a 3-way 12VDC directional solenoid would run me about $130!
So with that said I'll just purchase a $3 ball valve and if my engine floods, I can open the hood to change fluid direction.
Problem/thought I had was that I'm unsure what the temp is at those ports when the car is running.
Standard tubing is rated at 70F so I assume it'll be alright, but I want to verify what the temp is before purchasing the tube.
If the temps are close, I can buy tubing rated for higher temp.
Next problem is that I can't start the car without the clutch pedal (well... I COULD technically by bypassing the starter interlock switch), but I'm low on gas and don't want to really run it unless I'm leaving to get gas.
So Steve... if its OK with you, when I drop off the pedals could I take a temp reading of your car's maintenance ports?

Speaking of safety interlock switch.... got the rocker switch and wires for my 2nd project.

Other project huh? Sounds like an ignition kill switch of some sort. I need to do the same thing and wire mine in somewhere. I need to purchase some wire though... and possibly wire taps - and then maybe I'll fix the heater control.

But you have to factor the temp once the engine is warmed-up and the fact that this tubing will be under constant heat, unlike the cleaner nozzle that is in for under 20 sec.
I just feel better to verify the tube will handle the temp consistently.
Don't need melted vinyl tubing on my ports

My Fluke meter has a thermocouple attachment.
