I just got the car so I have to pay off the credit card I used to install AC into our house first then I can think about purchases like this. So it will be a while before the mods begin. Especially since the excitment of owning it wont even start to get worn down till spring. I know I got a good deal buying it during winter but it is painful not wanting to drive it when there is salt on the roads.

Jon: what time works for you tonight? Perhaps we'll get to the bottom of this flood nonsense. I'm going to grab my floor jack from work in case I we need to pull the plugs to dry them off. I don't have a spark plug socket or a socket for the lug nuts though... I would have bought my tools, but that yellow top set me back a few bucks.
Also, update my signature. And came up with this for the racing beat.

Lol yeah but I would not know what the heck I am doing sir. Anything I did on 7's was supervised bymy friend who was a service tech for mazda and usually involved me working on the 13b on a bench. Lemme talk to the wife and see if she had any plans for us tonight. I know we dont have crap going on on thursday.

This poses a problem for me because I'm not at the shop with access to the tools (or the torches)
I'm pleased by your optimism that we'll have it fixed before you got here. I'm hoping its just flooded and I did something in correctly or something typical of me.

Well...when I got home I was like "I'll just play a couple songs and hopefully open up four more for everyone else." Next thing I knew it was 4 hours later and I was getting my *** handed to me by Living Colour.

Jon,
Don't want to start a public bigtime thing on the thread, but
I really don't get it.
What makes the performance mods so attractive. You spend hundreds to thousands of dollars to make the car gain, what, 5 hp, maybe 10?
I understand if you're racing, not just AX, but any kind of competition. A few extra HP can make a difference. But spending all that money to go a little faster between stop lights on your way to the grocery store is something I can't understand.
I'm not being a smart *** here. I just don't see why.
And I definitely agree with Jon's comments about taking things apart to learn about the car. I wish I had been there when you guys worked on Steve's. I would have learned alot.
I learned a hell of a lot doing DBs brakes in the garage. I am car stupid, so the more I see, the better.

I think its just part of the hobby. Make it your own, personalize it, etc. Maybe some of it is to talk about the mods or just to make it "better" than a stock car that you bought. Another aspect could be the intangibles of knowing you did the work and you build that relationship with your car.
Even in auto X, it sounds like you're limited to the mods you can do if you own the 8 and want to be competitive in a class.
And I'm sure you'll be down sometime when we're working on mine again. I am learning so much myself and for some reason feel more confident working on cars... even though the argument can be made that I should probably never even open my own hood. But - I do what I want!

You can pretty much mod the car any way you want for AX. It just changes the class you're in. We talk alot about stock here, which severely restricts the mods. Theoretically it's a more prestigious class, because your skill has to create the speed, not a mod. Locally, it doesn't make much difference.
The real mod I'd like to see is something that gave the car some torque. More HP only helps so much there.

Think of it this way Doc, how would you know what the gains are unless someone does it?
Doing what I've done builds knowledge not only on that section of the vehicle, but what I learned can be past to others and suggest what to avoid (unless you're Steve who learns the hard way... damn midpipe).
Same reason why I don't recommend someone buy an aftermarket intake if they are looking for "performance gains".
Having the top two intake setups in my car allows me to say that gains are not worth it (unless you like the sound).
The performance mods I recommend for people who are NA allows them to get their hands dirty, build a little bit of knowledge, gain around 20HP (best case), AND they will be able to utilize those same components when/if they decide to go FI in the future, so it wouldn't be a complete waste because those components combined with an FI setup will benefit greatly.
Unlike an intake setup that will give them VERY MINIMAL gain and will have to be removed if they go FI.
I have no problem if you want to ask questions, but realize that we may have different goals.
I don't ask why you like to race around little cones all day... but to each their own.

I could care less about it, driving around cones doesn't excite me.
I will be willing to drive at Nelson Ledges' this summer though.
Again... how you mod your car depends on how you are going to run it.
Then others just care about being "Fast & Furious".
Everyone has different goals.
