By the way... Lil Red and Holy Cross...

I have two wheels with only minor paint scratches you can't see unless you get REALLY close. The other two are kinda F'd IMO.

I'll send him a perfumed letter stating : "Sir, that is most undeserved, please refrain from such behavior in the future or I'll be forced, at great displeasure, to notify the proper authorities."

The saddest part is that IT IS about the only thing I can do short of catching the guy in the act while my buddy in the police stands next to me by the purest coincidence.

Man you are too nice...

I would find out who it was and take a pair of tin snips and cut the valve stems off all four of his wheels.

Here's Why:

1. Slashing tires is harder than it looks
2. Doesn't stick them with an ENORMOUS cost of replacing said slashed tires.
3. More fun than using a valve stem tool to take the center pieces out of the stems
4. Causes enough damage to just be a MAJOR pain in the ***.

Around here we never take off our snow tires until May. Then when it snows at least it rarely sticks to the road.

When I was in college (back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) at Paul Smiths (near Lake Placid) we got 6 inches of snow on June 6th. Just a friendly warning about Adirondack weather....

Yeah that's how you steal wheels without having the alarm go off... put blocks under the car, quickly slash all 4 stem valves... car lowers down smoothly on the blocks... you spray liquid nitrogen on the lock nuts, smash'em... and you have 4 pristine wheels with tires.

The only protection is to have an alarm system that can detect changes in the car's level/plane (car tipping on the corner where 1st valve stem is cut).

(Saw this on a TV special where they had an ex-car thieft talk about their tricks)

Note to self: don't sleep while in Lake Placid.

I'm still torn on what to do w/my wheels for the run. It does suck - can't even expect the weather reports to be that helpful b/c of the lake effect BS. The new set will be in next week, and the springs have been sitting next to me at work for 2 weeks - I just can't take the wait anymore.

11" of white stuff in Westbrook (right outside Portland) Maine. Lovely.

So, should I be worried about driving into the Adirondacks in the end of May with my Summer only tires on?

May *should* be fine. Especially since we're getting the April snow - the weird late storms are rarely both months. But I don't actually live there, and it's a lake effect region . . .

We SHOULD be fine. I am going to have my new wheels and summer only treads on. Joke em if they can't take a F*ck!

Where in Westbrook? Thats where my best friend lives. Off exit 48 on 95 (Platinum Plus Exit) right off the exit straight through all the lights and then a left at the last light and then an immediate left at the next light (dunkins on the corner) Can't remember name of that road. He lives down in that neigborhood.
I'm going over to visit him on the 21st of this month.

500

http://www.lakeplacidfestivalofcars.com/showcarinfo.htm

Check out this link to the Lake Placid Festival of Cars (Car Show) that will be going on the weekend we will be there. It includes Sport Compact/Tuner Car class which might be cool to check out. I'll bet some of your rides could win different classifications if entered, but that's not why I am bringing this up.

The main point here is that there will be close to 500 cars entered in this car show, plus all the specators and family/friends. This means hotel rooms could be SOLD OUT in the little town of Lake Placid well before we get there. So MAKE YOUR HOTEL RESERVATIONS NOW unless you want to risk getting stuck in the Bates Motel or sleeping on the floor or in your car.

It's not likely ALL the hotel rooms in town will be sold out, but you might get stuck paying more than you planned or staying miles away from everyone else.

The car show is an interesting situation: maybe we could use this as a "scouting run" and, if all looks good, plan on attending the car show next year???? Just a thought.

That sounds GREAT!

Also as far as the hotel rooms are concerned. Some of you that are NOT bring guests should consider shacking up with another member of the club to save money and hotel room consumption.

So far I'm bunking by myself in a room with two double beds....any ladies out there who need a room but are shy to sign up? I'm of the female persuasion, and don't mind the company.

Ok ok ok .... SO ummmm I hope that my wheels show up soon so I can put my new tires on them cause I washed the car today and took a look at my rears... I have one word: Cords!

Yeah I have some very minor cords showing through. UGH. Should have my wheels in 2 weeks. Hopefully less.

I just dont want to pay to have the tires mounted and balanced on the stockers and then have to dismount and mount on the new wheels.

Guess I will have to drive a LOT less aggressive till I get them!
