I have 17" Kazera KZ-V wheels with Blizzaks (WS-50) on mine. The wheels fit fine over the brakes, and they were about the cheapest wheels the Tire Rack had, about $120 each. (Still about $1000 for the set, though) I doubt anyone makes steel wheels for the RX-8, so the only cheaper option would be used wheels. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help! What I ended up doing is buying wheels (17" ADR Sokudo - $350 shipped for set of four on eBay) and tires (Hanook Icebear WS300 - $430 with free shipping from Discount Tire). $40 for new lug nuts...the stock ones wouldn't fit with the new wheels. My future father-in-law is mounting and balancing the tires today (free).

Total Cost: $820 I think this is about as cheap as you can do it without going used.

I will be swapping from summer to winter tonight, and will post pics ASAP.

$820 is damn good, congrats. i picked up an extra set of stock wheels and have blizzak lm-22's and theyve been great. a bit more up front cost, but in the end itll save me b/c i can just swap them whenever i want. i wanted to stick with 18s so there were very few options, i think arctic alpins were the only other ones that would fit

Here they are:

Wheels: 17x7 ADR Sokudo (Gun Metallic)
Tires: 225/50/17 Hankook Icebear

I think it's a good look, and I'm still excited about the price!

I live in Chicago, here is my winter set, 225/50HR-17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires on 17x7 Kazera KZ-V wheels, bought this set for $1153 from tirerack.com in Oct.2004, worked excellent last winter. Here are pics after I changed them over in my garage one month ago.
