Upcoming WI/IL Track Days
Hi All:
A quick note to let you know we have a few spots open for July 23rd at Putnam Park and a few less spots open for Autobahn Country Club (full track) August 20th. E-mail me for the registration or you can register on line at:
http://www.MVPTrackTime.com/id47.html
At the request of a number of drivers, we are now making lunch available for your guests. So if the spouse, kids or friends are coming to the track with you, they too can enjoy a nice catered lunch. Your lunch, as an MVP Track Time driver, is of course included with registration.
We have some photos on the MVP web site from June 4th at Autobahn (the wettest day in my driving history) and a thorough explanation of helmet ratings compliments of Simpson racing. Remember SA2000 or newer helmets!
July 23rd will be here before we know it. I hope to see all of you at the track. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (314) 249-3770 or e-mail Feffman@MVPTrackTime.com.
Happy Motoring!

What group you planning on running in? I'm thinking group 2 for me, we still get an instructor in group 2.
Sounds good, I'm just going to wait for last possible moment to sign up. I really don't want to pay $319 then have it rain. I doubt they will book the event full a few days prior. I'll just call them every week or so and see how much room is still available. The only bad part is that by waiting I will pay an extra $50

They may actually require you to be group 1 if its your first NASA event and you don't have a competition license. I expect to be group 2 (or possibly 3) for the day at gingerman.
I'm going to wait until the weekend of the event pops up on the 10-day forecast to make my final decision but I'm not going to wait so long that I will be paying the extra $50. With having to pay the fee to join NASA I don't feel like paying over $400 for a track weekend.
Knowing a little bit about how NASA does things group 1 at the autobahn and then work my way up.

"Group 1: This is where all of the fun and excitement of NASA begins! This group is designed for first time track day participants. Learn the fundamentals of high performance driving in a controlled environment of classroom and on track instruction. Sign up for Group 1 and build the foundation of your driving career today!
Group 2: Embark on the next step of the NASA HPDE ladder! This group is designed for novice drivers with previous track day experience. Group 2 drivers must possess the basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics and be comfortable driving without an instructor. Group 2 drivers are familiar with grid procedures, passing rules, and flags. Sign up for Group 2 and hone your skills today! "
What do you guys think of the NASA HPDE event at Gingerman in September for a first timer like me? Sounds like NASA allows car sharing, so Jen and I could both drive. I contacted the driving school that is listed on gingerman's website, and they don't allow car sharing.
From what you guys have said, sounds like Gingerman might be a good place to start. Especially for me with my health issues (easily fatigued, etc). I was also thinking about the autobahn NASA day in October, but whatever one I end up at, I want to make sure some of you guys go as well, since I'm a newb.

Crap! Why did I think the NASA day at Gingerman was next weekend?
I will be at the Gingerman day. I may try to convince RedDevil to go with me - which probably won't be too hard.

I read something about a medical form on the NASA site. Do you guys have to fill that out for HPDE? Sounds like it is only for competition license (which i'm not interested in), but I wanted to make sure. I have no restrictions from my doc on driving (basically just don't drive when i get too physically or mentally fatigued - basically what everyone should do, my fatigue just comes earlier), but I'm not thrilled about the idea of turning over my medical history to someone...

cool, thanks! I think that takes care of most of my concerns. Now somebody will just have to tell/show me how to change the brake fluid. I remember RD telling me that would be the main thing i'd need to do before a track day. I've changed oil and diff fluid on my old truck, but not much more than that. I can't imagine brake fluid is too difficult, though.
