Looks like I'll be getting them about Christmas. I do have a space heater that I've used in a garage before. I'm guessing that will be necessary. As far as a spring compressor I know they can be rented from autozone, which we did with my last car.

Yeah, a space heater would definitely be a nice thing to have. Otherwise I'd say "Spring for springs!" I'm going to be out of town the two weekends following the Christmas holiday, but the following I should be good to go. Can you wait that long?

Hey Snowborder sorry to hear that the front of your car was hit. Let us know if you find anything out from the video at the gym. If so we will all go with you to the persons house. But seriously it would suck if you had to put a claim in or pay for repairs yourself. Good luck.

I'd be willing to host the shock swapping if the timing works out - the garage at our new house has one of those industrial heaters in it. (I need to test it this week, assuming that it works.) The garage is 2+ cars, so its pretty roomy to operate on one. How long does this shock/spring swap take? Could it get done in one day / afternoon? David

The length of time really depends on the amount of brute force applied and alcohol.
Working at a casual pace I've done it in 4 hours before. At a REAL casual pace I've done it in 6.

Well that sounds good - I'll check the heater, and FisherDn, when the stuff comes in, post it and we'll see if we can figure out a day to do this at my garage. If the weather's not really crappy I'll wheel the BBQ out there too.

It's really a shame that I don't have a two-car garage. My one-car is insulated, has its own speakers, all the tools are there, etc. It's just a bit too small to work on anything other than my motorcycle.

Looks like my parents want to buy me the shocks for xmas/birthday (the same day, yes I'm serious), and I'll pick up the springs. It'll be torture waiting three weeks to put it on though! You're gonna have to change your plans Bill. I'd have my bro help me put them on, but I think its about time we have an install party. I miss you guys!

I'll see what shakes in December. There's a slim chance I'll be available on the 30th. I'll keep you all posted.

By the way...everyone missed a great time and turnout Saturday at Johnny Rocket's in O'Fallon (Shiloh), IL. Snowboarder and I showed up to represent the 8's. Nice assortment of cars...the subarus definitely won the majority vote.

I'm still riding on my Potenzas... I hesitated too long on getting winter tires, and have 1 months worth of experience driving my new car; time to switch to grandma mode! Are there any good local places to get winter tires and wheels for my car? If not, then I will probably give tirerack.com a whirl.

I just put on my Kumho ECSTA ASXs that have been sitting in the garage since late winter this year. They're pretty decent in the snow and bad weather while not being terrible in the dry. I believe you can get a set of them relatively cheap from TireRack. In fact... after just checking you can get the 225/40ZR18 for $85 each. Not too shabby! Just find yourself a set of used rims on the forums here for a few hundred dollars and you're set for the winter!

WaterLogged; got any rims you want to get rid of? =D. I checked the FS section... and I am not seeing any local sellers (kinda want these ASAP).
baseballgenius; The AVS ES100s? How well do those fare out on the crap roads right now?
===
On a side note; what's the best way to get up a slippery hill under these road conditions? Should I turn DSC off? My tires end up skipping when gear is fully engaged without gas even. =\

I called around to AutoTire, NTB, and Dobbs... they all have crap for tire selection for the car; either one set that's not in stock, or some crazy expensive ones. =\ Tire and wheels seem to be a better idea than just tires alone due to install costs and whatnot. I am at a dilemma between forking out serious cash for tires locally, or maybe saving some money with wheels and tires from tirerack.com... I don't like the idea it being online as opposed to a B&M store... warranty stuff - if any - would be a pain.
oh, and.... GIVE ME YUOR UNWANTED OEM RIMZ!!!

Hey ferret,
NTB told me that if one was to order off of TireRack, they could have it sent to an NTB location and they will install them for you for an additional fee. Maybe that will help solve your selection issue.

Yay for being fickle? I think I have decided to take a whole new approach: all-season tires and just do away with the Potenzas; what do you think? These tires look promising:

What are you guys doing with the weather up there???? I'm in Dallas and my f***ing flight got cancelled!!!!! Although actually it sleeted all day yesterday here which was strange. Luckily I picked up another flight that'll get me home at 8 tonight. Best part of all of this is that my car is still clean as a whilstle in my garage since monday.
