The milky stuff is normal. If it bothers you mention it to the dealer. They will add a plastic liner into the your dipstick tube that will prevent the milky stuff from appearing on the dipstick.. (instead it's on the outside of the liner.)

Note, I had the liner added to my car... of course it stayed in my car for a grand total of a week before it kept coming out whenever I checked the oil. Since then I just deal with the milky substance.

BTW Walser Mazda in Burnsville has been really great on the service side for me. Everything has been fixed the first time. The few times they didn't have parts I had the option of a rental or to take my car back until the part arrived [as long as it wasn't a safety part].

Fray did you get the new style dipstick too? I've been debating about getting this.

Also want to mention that Amsoil 2000 series also leaves a milky substance on the dipstick when the temperature outside is colder than 32 degrees.

Ya, for my car it was both the updated dipstick and plastic liner.. The liner kept coming out so it is in a drawer in my garage.. but the new dipstick is nice.. it actually gives you an idea of how much oil you have..

From what I have been told, the milky substance is a combination of water, broken down oil, and gasoline. It's in low enough quantities that it won't damage the engine or any parts, but due to the position of the dipstick is most likely to form in the dipstick tube.. (specifically due to condensation while running.)

Seems like a small siphon in the dipstick tube would be a healthy thing for your engine. Get that oil/gas/water crap out of your oil/engine.

More than likely it would push it back into the engine but I am thinking of getting a oil extractor and it would do the same thing but will also take the oil out of the pan.

From what I have gathered, Luther Brookdale Mazda is the only place in the cities with new 2005 RX-8 models....can anyone tell me otherwise?
I am looking for MT, GT, NEW....no color preference.

I have yet to see this car on the road, or have noticed it at all. I hope this is all I hope it would be.

How many of you have this car as an everyday driver car? Drive through winter? I am in Fargo, but I am from Minnetonka....just going to school here.

I'm driving mine pretty much every day now. I was afraid to initially, but I've gotten over that. I just wash it regularly once they start dumping salt on the roads.

I don't have DSC or TCS on my car, and it hasn't been a problem at all. Just know to accellerate slowly, and don't get your RPM's up to 5k when there's snow on the ground and you'll be fine. It's interesting but having a car with low torque at low RPM's is actually very useful in snowy weather. However, I'd recommend getting the DSC/TCS, it won't hurt anything and is very beneficial in bad weather.

Also, if you're going to drive it in anything approaching winter weather, get snow tires. Otherwise you'll die.

SolidGun, look at both Walser in Burnsville and Morries in (where every 394/494 is)

(I got mine at Walser, other then the finance office it was a good car buying experience..)

Also keep in mind the 2006's are just around the corner, they should start arriving in the US some time in the next month or so.

(Also, getting a lease return or used RX-8 will also save you a bunch of cash... if you are willing to take a used car.)

Is it easy to turn traction control off in this car? I have to turn it off on all my cars when it is slippery because I over compensate with my winter driving.

I will be going to Walser Mazda and Luther Brookdale Mazda.
According to Mazda site search function Luther Brookdale Mazda is the only place with NEW 05 models.
I don't mind getting a used car, but the interest rate is going to go through the roof with used and I would like to keep it below 6% like I have had in the past.

Look forward to owning one soon. If anyone see anything in the twin cities about President's sale special in the newspaper, please post it here and let me know.

I had pretty good luck at Polar Mazda on Hwy 61 in White Bear Lake. I'm not sure if they have any 05's or not but they were good to work with.

Also, traction control is really easy to turn off. I turn it off all the time, I call it the KillJoy. The car is all sorts of fun in the winter - when you want it.

I'll second good sales at Polar and if they have it at Brookdale they can get it from them. Just don't fall for the we need a commitment line. If they pull it, tell them you will go there instead.

Oh and thank them for wasting your time, if they don't retract the statement.

I am surprised that neither Polar or Morrie's has RX-8 in the drop down for checking inventory. Weird. Bad on their part.

I had some bad expirence at Polar. When I went there to look at the 8. I saw 5 guys just chatting. I wanted to look at the engine bay and asked them if they could pop the hood.
They told me they can't do it. Not even one gave me the time.. So I walked to the main desk and had to ask for help..

Once I have help. They guy was good about showing me the car. Took it for a test drive etc..

I hate dealers like that. If they ignore me because I look young, I never deal with that salesperson or the dealership. I have purchased 20 cars and 14 of them new and I always walked if I didn't get any help. I dress down intentionally when I go to dealerships so I can get the salesmen that won't judge by appearance.

How much off MSRP should I expect if I am buying it this weekend and it is 05 NEW? Is that Chicago deal match pushing it?

Walser does not have new inventory of RX-8s. They do have a few used ones though. You might be able to call them and see if they can do a dealer swap for you.

I've also found autotrader.com to be really helpful with tracking down new mazda car inventory- the mazdausa website isn't always that helpful.

You should be getting somewhere in the $5k-$8k off range on a new 05 GT. It might be worth your time to make a few phone calls to dealers and see what they can do for you.

Also, check here for car loans: www.pendfed.org. I just refinanced through them, they have excellent rates. You can get a 60 month used car loan at 5.79%.

I have found 3 new ones at Luther and will be going back there (I bought my 2006 Eclipse GT there) and found one that I would have built myself.
I am going through Mazda financing to get that extra $1000 off and then refinancing it ....I will give pendfed.org a go in 3 months. Thx for the info, I will press for $7000 off and if not, I will look at some used ones and give those a try.

Do RX-8 sold in Northland come with all-weather tires or summer tires?

All RX-8's come from the factory w/ Summer tires.. so the first thing you need to do is get the winter tires and get them installed..

Yeah, winter tires are a must-have. I got 17" Dunlop M3s for about $1000 from tirerack.com (tires + wheels). They might be sold out by this time of year though.

If you can get an extra $1000 off for MAC financing, go for it. They may tell you that you have to wait X number of days before you refinance (they told me 3 months) but if you look at the paperwork you sign, it says there are no pre-payment penalties on the loan. The dealers apparently make more commission the longer you stay with the loan. Anyway, I refinanced mine 2 weeks after buying it. :-)

I test drove one today, and I am definitely sold. No doubt in my mind. Trading in my 06 Eclipse GT at a loss for this. Driving will never be the same. Can't wait until Monday for all the paperwork to go through.

I will finance with Mazda and then refinance in 2 months...I am kinda lazy like that.

My credit rating isn't all that great and I can only get approved at Mazda credit for now. That and $1000 extra rebate is nice.
But I can refinance it easy. I will keep twin cities co-op in mind for refinancing though, since that will be through my wife's account ....she has great credit.
