Unfortunately, the 8 and I are leaving for CT this afternoon after I get out of work. I'll wave when I get closer to the East side before I turn down 23 towards Ohio...

I can come with my winter beater? But that's not attractive at all..

Glass engineer: Engineering glass such as windows, light bulbs, computer screens, CRTs, fiberglass, and other applications. Just apply engineering to glass. I learned about forming, thermal properties, chemical properties, compositions, applications, etc.

Maybe I like to use 'really'. Big whoop, wanna fight about it???? Lol.

So apparently I missed your wave cuz I didn't see it... oh wait... it was really really really really really really small... BTW, I wonder if we passed each other the highway... I was down in Ohio yesterday and the day before and the day before that for SCAT training, haha.

Winter beater huh? What would this compose of?

Glass engineer? Hum, judging by your description sounds pretty stellar. I've always wondered how some of those things are made.

Fight? Who? Me? You do realize you're about to bring a knife to a gun fight... correct...

I did see one 8 on my travels... it was on the Ohio Turnpike.. black, no spoiler, that's about all I could see right away. I wonder if that person's on here. I didn't get more than a second to see it because it was in a small break in the huge concrete barriers... This was probably around... 7pm? Maybe 8 pm?

Winter beater = 00 Nissan Altima. Not perfect, hence the 8. Doesn't really show how much I love cars, it was a good deal and I was in college.. Also probably one of the few stick shift old Altimas...

Oh and in case anyone wondered, I made it to CT in one piece although while washing it I found a new gouge in the hood and remnant roadkill (barf) stuck to the side of the car...

Gun fight? I'll get my AK..

Any Michigan folks interested in a set of brand new Espeliar springs for their RX8? ($120 local) Never installed and still in the box.

I post it here since this is for my local RX buddies.

How much will these springs lower the car? Not having heard of these springs before, are they geared towards track, or everyday use? Assuming they will be fine with the stock dampers. How come you don't want 'em?
Sorry for all the questions... just drinkin' my morning coffee...

^^ LOL at the morning Java!

I've had these in my garage since beginning of 07. I just never got around to installing them. At the time, I was running a bit larger tire on my Enkeis so the gap was not so noticeable.

I'm in the market looking for a 350Z now. I'm still keeping the RX8 as it's paid for. The wife will be driving it instead. Since she'd not very good about watching for tire debris in the road, potholes, curbs, small children .... I thought it best not to lower the car for her.

So instead, the proceeds will go towards the Z. I just sold my 88 300ZX Turbo to a local guy so I've got my down payment. (The '88 was a Shiro special. #981 of 1002 made.) When I was cleaning out the garage (packing up all the parts that go with the Shiro, I rediscovered the springs.) LOL.

The Espelir Springs are well known on this forum. The company seems to only have a site in Japanese. http://www.espelir.co.jp/ The drop is 30mm in front but I believe it's less in the rear. (The front is where the big gap is.) I believe these are the street version. I've not heard any issues on this brand before. If you search, you should find some posts on it.

Maybe you should wait for the 370Z that comes out in late '09. Early test reports look good, slightly smaller/lighter so more hp/lb. Better handling too........so they say. I might pick one up myself if I do not get a Lexus IS-F before then.

^^ I'm looking for a used Z, not a new one. The 370Z would be great but I don't like the looks of the new headlights. I love the looks of the '07 and '08 & especially the new HR engine.

Anyway, sorry Chuck (Kors-jan), I just noticed this was in the Owner's List and not the lounge.

PM me FamilyMan if you're interested.

I'm considering buying a RX8 and found this site. I'm in the Detroit area and would love to talk to somebody about all the problems I've been reading about these cars. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks'

hey dan,

as someone who recently purchased an RX-8 (i got mine in january) i can tell you my experiences.

bads:

1) the back seats aren't very roomy if the people in the front are tall.
2) headroom is an issue if you are tall or have a tall torso (i'm 6'2" and have to recline the seat pretty far back)
3) mine has flooded twice. the best fix for me was to pull the fuel pump fuse, turn it over for 10 seconds twice, put the fuse back in and you're good). the very best is to make sure it's fully warmed up before turning it off.

goods:

1) interior is great. gauges are wonderful, driving position is great.
2) any car that revs to 9500 rpm has to be great.
3) handling is impeccable.... i just got back from my first open track day and had a riot!
4) in the detroit area, they are fairly rare... which i like.

overall...

if you're buying used, make sure all the updates/recalls have been performed. obviously you will test drive it so you will know if you fit and how it feels.

i'm totally happy with my car.

casedog--thanks for the sarcasm

Thanks for the sarcastic remarks, you're making me feel real welcome. I was looking forward to buying one of these cars and having a good support group to hang with. I'm obviously new to this forum and maybe I don't know your sense of humor?

What sarcastic remarks?

My 2 cents: I love the RX-8 but it gets horrendous gas mileage, if this is a concern whatsoever, I think you may regret your decision. I also knew what kind of impact my style of driving would have on the gas mileage... I'm not going to baby the car.. It's one thing I knew about when I bought the car, also knew about it needing premium. Two things I could have slightly avoided getting a different type of sports car but I have no second thoughts now that I have it. It fits me perfectly (I'm small) compared to a big heavy Mustang that I nearly needed a phonebook to see over the hood. Love the muscle though... it's a toss up. I'm just going to have to work on my collection so I get every slice of the pie... anyway, I'm 23, a female driver, and I drive MT. Take that as you may. I've only met/known of male drivers.. Good luck and hopefully you do decide to get an 8.

Damn man, I didn't think I would offend anyone, sorry if I did. Those have just been my experiences, I think it's a great car and has a lot of potential and is very fun to drive. You can also find the answer to any problem that comes up with the car on this site as well. Just take the car for a test drive and fly around some turns and your mind will probably be made up to get one.
