Hey guys. Thinking about trying to have my renesis rebuilt and going turbo again, tired of the car just sitting in the garage. Anybody know any good shops in Iowa or close by that can rebuild a renesis?

Also what about anybody that does the ceramic coating?

Thanks in advance, Sean.

Tires aren't that hard to come by really. I'm not using new tires. I just go to shops see if they have anything used in the size I want for cheap. I'm sure once I get better I'll want to use newer tires, but for just learning what I can get my hands on are just fine with me.

Hey guys. just checking in here in Dubuque, IA.
Diego, I've met you before, but I'm afraid I probably don't know anyone else on here. I'm very active on 7club, but only picked up my 8 last year. I've been building rotaries for about 7 years now, and I'm still very addicted! If anyone is ever down to hang out, I always enjoy hanging out with other rotary owners.
We will have to get an all rotary meet planned for the summer. I know we have just started talking about it for this years summer meet on 7club, so we should correlate our efforts, and get all things rotary involved.

What up fellas. I see no one really post hear anymore, but for sake of making my first post I'll drop in.

I'm over in Cedar Falls, but I used to live in Cedar Rapids for awhile. Just picked up my first rotary (04 rx-8 6spd). I come from a completely different tuner world. I also own a high compression neon with a pretty big cam.

Honestly I wasnt sure about owning a rotary, but a few months back I decided to do some research on them. Frankly put the more I learned the more I started to like them. And sure enough took one for a test drive and fell in love. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm having fun in the mean time.

I've been reading this forum for a year, on and off. I bought a 2006 RX8GT BB in 2010. Have yet to attend a meeting with other RX8 owners locally...Cedar Rapids. I did discover my neighbor has an awesome RX7 all modded and I hope to learn a few things from him about the rotary beast. I'm an old school V8 guy from the 70's, 53 in age, so I may not attract too many other owners since most seem to be under 30. Is that correct? I may be 53 but feel like I'm 18 at times.. : )

No worries, I'm in Cedar Rapids too and I'm 36. I like old V-8's as well, but the rotary is also a fascinating beast. I haven't been to any meets or anything in a while, but if you wanna have a really good time in your RX-8 get out to an autocross meet, a great way to tear it up and drive the 8 the way it's meant to driven.

Yea, I first got the rotary bug after I rode in my girlfriend's RX4 back in 1976. After I drove an RX8 for the first time I knew I had to have one. I have a few friends who Autocross and have been wanting to get into it. Looking for some light weight black rims and sticky tires. Any recommendations?

I have Enkei RPF-01's and I'd recommend them or maybe 5zigen, can't remember the model number of those. I'd also maybe go a size smaller to 17's if they're going to be just for autocross/track... the tires are a lot cheaper. I haven't looked on the for sale thread on here in a while, but there may be a good deal on a used set of track wheels and tires.

Hey guys, just thought I would drop by and say hi.

My name is Justin and I live in Altoona (about 10 min away from Des Moines) I'm in an 06 GT Galaxy Grey. I haven't been to any meets or anything either but would really like to if there's ever one near by.

Also curious if you guys had messed around with rolling fenders before to fit those wheel/tire setups? I've been calling around since I want to go 18 x 9 +30.... All I'm hearing is that it could end up being $4,000 to re-work all the metal after the roll and then have to blend all 4 corners of the car.

It won't cost you anything close to that. When I had my rx8 it cost me 100
Bucks to roll all 4 corners. All you need is a the rolling tool and a heat gun. Even if you were to buy both it would still cost you way less. Under $500 for sure. Btw I was running 17x10 all around.

Hey McGridLe,
May I ask why you want to go +30? Are you just looking for flush or poke? Do you plan on tracking the car? Whats more important....performance or looks to you?

Certainly no poke, I was just looking for a nice "close to flush" look without having to lower my camber. I don't take it on the track, maybe someday.. But for now its my DD and I want it to look great without having to worry about gashing my tires on my fenders. That same wheel also comes in a +38. Not that that is a huge difference, but maybe save me some room.

Flush is about 25 mm outboard from stock. Stock is a 8" wheel with +50 offset. If you went with a 9" wheel with +30, then you will be 32 mm farther outboard than stock. The 9" wheel with +38 would fit better and not require any fender rework, even with a mild drop in height (may rub slightly with 265/35 or 275/35 section tires).

My current setup is 265/35R18 tires on 9" wheels with +45 offset. I could probably go another 7 mm farther outboard with the offset, but this will increase scrub radius more than I would want. I am also lowered on Progress Technology Sport Springs.

My suggestion is to also pick up some lowering springs since any setup will look odd unless the car is lowered 1".

Scrub radius is directly tied to wheel offset. +30 wheels will increase scrub radius and wheel bearing loads. The increase in scrub radius will increase your bump steer response (not good) and also tramlining. It isn't like you car would fail with pure street driving, but the forces on the track will cause bearing failures must faster. If you are ever going to track your car in the future, even autocross, I would suggest not going lower than +40.

I only picked up my +45 wheels because that was the closest available to +50 in the model I chose.

P.S: What you do mean "without having to lower my camber"? Do you mean increase negative camber, or decrease negative camber? What do you consider "lower camber"?

I'm really glad you pointed that out. I would have been really upset if I had gone through with all of that just to realize that it was actually too wide.

The wheels I'm looking at are MB Battles, they dont have the dish but they are a concave wheel, that's the reason I was searching for the lowest offset I could fit, simply because the lower the offset, the more concave the wheel would be.

I am lowered on megan racing springs so I'm really liking the ride height at the moment. And upon further investigating I can get the wheel I want in an 8" version with the +30 offset. And again, I don't run my car on the track, so other than looks, there really is no benefit for me to get a 9" wheel. It's certainly what I prefer but not what I'm willing to pay for if it takes fender modification.

So logically, if ~25mm would be close to flush and I get an 8" wheel with +30 offset, I would be pretty dam close to where I want to be. And most likely save myself from the scrubbing issue because I do plan on buying tires as well. Most likely 225/(40 or 35)R - 18 which would be smaller in diamater.

I'm assuming if I go with that setup I shouldn't have to worry about rubbing on the fenders at all? That's the only thing I want to be sure of before I take the next step on anything.

P.S. and yes, sorry for my lack of knowlege on camber lol. by "lowering my camber" I meant increasing negative camber.

Thanks for your time and patience

There is a big benefit for getting a 9" wheel over a 8" wheel in the offsefts you are looking at. The reason is the scrub radius. The scrub radius is the lateral (+Y) distance between the king pin inclination (KPI) axis intersection with ground to wheel centerline. Scrub radius is directly related to wheel offset, regardless of wheel width.

Again.....I wouldn't get a 8" wheel with +30. This will increase scrub radius by 20 mm compared to stock, and have a detrimental effect to your suspension characteristics. If you want the outside of the wheel to be 25 mm farther outboard than stock, the best way is to add wheel width while maintaining as close to stock offset as possible. Looking at the MB Battles.....there is a 18x8 ET30 for $179 each and 18x9 ET38 for $185 each. The outside of the wheel will be in roughly the same location (1.65 mm farther inboard for the 18x9 ET38). The minimal difference in cost will provide a much better wheel and your scrub radius will be only 12 mm larger than stock instead of 20 mm.

You should typically be running about -1.0 to -1.5 degree camber for the street in the front, and between -1.5 and -2.0 in the rear. These are from the stock alignment specifications. I am not saying you need to run these settings, but this is more than likely what you are running after a visit to an alignment shop.

Here is a good snapshot that explains scrub radius:

Also...I would recommend getting tires from Discount Tire Direct along with you wheel purchase. Mounting and shipping is free. Only issue is that you won't be able to reuse your TPMS if you have them mount and ship.

Oh ok now im following on the scrub radius.

So I want my offset as close as stock as possible, so I should definitely be looking at the 9" wheels +38 offset. Would those fit without modding the fenders with 245/40 18?
