Thanks, RSD. I'll keep that in mind.

I don't have a vice though. I'll have to "MacGyver" up something.

As far as meeting up with CRH on monday, why don't you guys figure something out? There's a good chance i'm not going to make it, so I'd hate to help pick out a location and then not be able to make it. There is a thread in the aftermarket performance section where he is discussing his road trip plans if you want to drop in there.

Hopefully I'm not overstepping here speaking for him....If he is coming into the area around lunchtime we would be glad to sit with him for lunch but like I said, me and RedDevil have an hour to go out to lunch so we are limited to our area. We are very close to I-80 and have a lot of options of what we could do.

If there is a large group of people out west and north of the city that want to meet up and dont want to come out this way then so be it we will have to skip it.

Hi all! It's great to finally be here! It'll definitely take some time to get used to the traffic but there's so much more excitement here! Do you guys have any recommendations for tint shops? Also, are the police pretty strict about the % tint? Thanks

Any tint on the front or side windows is illegal. One of our cars has been ticketed for the factory UV tint and it stood up in court. Tinting the rear window should be OK.

So far the people i've seen express interest are you, Red Devil, RSD, Al, and me. Since I'm a maybe the four of you can fight it out amongst yourselves And of course you'll have to get CRH's buy-in.

Yeah. IL law is the back windows you can tint to any darkness (Mine are 5% and my dad, who's a cop took it to get done) and only 6" down on the windshield. Can't have any tint on the side windows though. I've wondered though if you bought pre-tinted glass where it's not film and put those on if it would still be illegal.

Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/12-503. Windshields must be unobstructed and equipped with wipers.
(a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any sign, poster, window application, reflective material, nonreflective material or tinted film upon the front windshield, sidewings or side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver. A nonreflective tint may be used along the uppermost portion of the windshield if such material does not extend more than 6 inches down from the top of the windshield, Nothin in this Section shall create a cause of action on behalf of a buyer against a dealer or manufacturer who sells a motor vehicle with a window which is in violation of this Section.

According to this, RSD should not have received a ticket for window tints. Because the law says "or tinted film". Your glass is tinted, but not with a film. I would have to believe that you could replace your windows with a darkened window legally. But, you would run the risk of being pulled over all the time for a vehicle inspection.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. I just have a copy of the law book.

I thought about just replacing the glass. Mostly because I think it looks better and I'm getting tired of 'the stares' plus it'd help keep my leather seats from burning me.

I'll have to ask the pops what he knows about it. Already told me my license plate cover was illegal. Bummer. =/ Stupid IL.

I have a clear cover on the front plate. I now have personalized plates and I would like to keep it in nice shape. I figure I will have less problems that way than when I didn't have a front plate at all.

I put a smoked cover on my plate. Trying to hid the ugliness that is the indiana plate by any and all means possible.

I went to car boutique in schaumburg and was very impressed with the job they did.
I have 35% front / 5% rear and I know it is only a matter of time before I get a ticket for it, but it is worth it for now.

Any tint of any kind on the passenger/driver and windshield windows is illegal (and according to certain jackhole forest preserve police our windows are illegally tinted from the factory with a UV coating).

According to the law, NO tint is legal, no matter how it is applied. But, people have been tinting for years, so it's just a crapshoot on whether it gets enforced. Kinda like speeding: you speed, you run the risk of being pulled over.

ANY type of plate cover is now illegal in IL because of the newer covers that don't allow photographs of the license number. Since they are really cracking down on IPass hoppers and speeding in construction zones with photographic tickets (there is no cop, you get photographed and they MAIL you a ticket), the covers became illegal (even clear).

The CRH meet: whoever sets it up with him wins on location. Just let me know if anyone talks to him for when/where and I'll post it up for you.

I have no front license plate, 50% tint, which is very light, and I never get harrassed for either one. I have gone almost a full year without even the slightest mention of the front plate, and have been pulled over with the tints on and the cop didn't say a thing about it.

Hey Al, did you ever get to look up the felony speed limit thing? I think it is anything 40 over, but i'm not sure.

5/11-601.5. Driving 40 miles per hour or more in excess of applicable limit
This only says that it is a Class A Misdemeanor.

Neither, 5/6-205. Mandatory revocation of license or 5/6-206. Discretionary authority to suspend or revoke license, list this as reason to revoke a license. Committing a Felony while in operating a motor vehicle, would result in a license revocation. As would evading a police officer or drag racing.

My Illinois Vehicle Code book is from 2004, but I don't think there would be too much that has changed.

A couple years ago I was at a JGTCA meet and one of the guys got arrested and taken to jail because of the 40+mph thing. He was bailed out and met us at the go-kart place an hour later

Wait, so you got a ticket from the factory UV coating...I mean "tint"? That's a bunch of BS and you were just getting picked on. Most car on the road has UV coating from factory, including the police boat he's driving. I say fight the ticket. What's the worse that could happen, pay the ticket? Even if it's illegal, it's Mazda's fault, not you.
