Next Monday, anyone have a clue for a location near I-80? Sounds like a truck stop meet to me!!!

I just went out to grab mine and put it in my car for you. Then I realized: you don't want mine because it's stripped and also I can't put it in my car because MY CAR IS STILL AT THE **** DEALERSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, they have had it for almost a week now because they can't figure out the problem with the head unit.

Yes now you see the dilemma. I-80 is a 10 minute drive for me up I-65.

And being that this is happening on a Monday RedDevil and I will be at work literally 1 - 2 miles from I-80.

I really think if they are going to charge me I should have the option of bringing my own tow vehicle.

Well, he just posted that he will be in the chicago area around noon, so it will have to be a lunchtime meet...

I did see where he talked about going to Madison, so it may not have to be an i-80 location. Perhaps we should come up with an i-80 location and a 294 location in case he is heading north?

I'm not too familiar with most of the exits off of I-80, but I was looking on yahoo and it looks like Larkin ave in Joliet has quite a few restaurants.

Joliet is way the hell west of me and I'll already be going there Saturday. Tinley/orland area would be much better.

Oh yea and there is no way I would be driving 40 miles west of me to meet on my lunch. ESP when he is going to drive right past where I am working around my lunchtime.

The star is roughly the area (within a few blocks) where RedDevil and myself work. If its going to be lunchtime on a weekday this is the area we are going to be confined to. There are plenty of places to eat around us.

Aren't the wheel lock keys different for each car? Wouldn't it defeat the purpose if they were all the same?

I haven't seen the key from another car but I bet they are the same or very close. I know most of the aftermarket ones are either the same or the have just a couple different patterns. If they were ALL different it would make the manufacturing costs so high you wouldn't be able to afford them. and 'spline locks' from the same company are all the same.

so in the event that there are a few different patterns how about everybody brings theres so I have a shot at getting my wheels off?

Well when I got 4 new wheels from a member on here along with his lugs and wheel locks, they were different, and when I got my car it also had a registration card for the wheel locks in case they ever got lost or damaged so that they could get the exact replacement. They can't all be different though. Just food for thought.

I'll bring my wheel lock as well.

Question, I'm going to swap out the front pads on Friday. Would it be OK to put them on with out the shims that go on the outside of the pad? The reason I ask is that the shims on my OE pads are getting tore up from the constant swapping when I track the car. The heat has actually melted the inner part of the shims.

I don't have any shims on my track pads that are currently on the car because I was too lazy to take them off after we went to gingerman last week.

I'll also take any suggestions on al alterior way to get the lock off. Does'nt matter if it gets destroyed in t he process, I have new lugs to go on there.

^ Now THAT I know, cuz mine stripped and I had to pound it off. Lemme find the thread that saved my sanity ...

Thread is here but post you need is this:
1. put 19mm 12 point 1/2 insocket on lock nut. ( don't try a 6 point. it will not work)
2. hit w/ hammer w/out hitting the rim.
3 remove lock nut w/ ratchet
4 to remove socket from nut insert nut between the jaws of a vice.
5. tighten the jaws enough to allow the nut to move but the socket will rest on the jaws.
6. use a 3/8 in extension, put through the 1/2 sockets hole and hit w/ hammer.
7 pick up socket and repeat steps 1-6 until done.
8 go buy diffrent locks ( like spline or something similar) and don't lose the new lock.

+++++

I just got rid of my locking lugs altogether after that. Note: dealerships are the ones who remove one lug from each wheel and replace with the locking one. This means if you ask nice, most dealerships will just GIVE you the extra lugs at no charge.
