2005 Kentucky Derby
Are any RXers going to be at the Kentucky Derby? The Missus and I just bought a new RX-8 two weeks ago with plans on driving it from Colorado to Kentucky to see the Derby and celebrate our anniversary.
We are planning an overnight stop somewhere around St. Charles, MO. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a quick rest before we pick it up again?
How 'bout any advice along the route for trouble areas, places to avoid or places to be weary of 'the man'? The plan is to travel I-70 from Denver, CO to St. Charles, MO. then I-64 into Louisville, KY. We don't plan on pushing the revs, but we are going to have to let it out somewhere. :-) Is a radar detector something that would be highly advised along this route?
We would love to hear from any of you about events or activities along the way that we should look into. We will have a couple of days before Derby Day to explore the Kentucky area so suggestions for scenic drives and/or must sees are greatly appreciated. If anyone will be tipping some good bourbon on the porch that needs extra sampling, drop me a note (obviously I won't be driving during that time). Some travel pictures of RX-8 enthusiasts getting together would look great here on the board.
Look for a Lightning Yellow w/GT crossing the plains of Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky. Send us your wishes that hail doesn't chase us down coming and going.
