Here's a nice pic. This photo was taken by David Brown who did all of our photos while I was in the sqaudron. This was taken on March 11th, 2006 right after we got back from our last deployment and I left the Navy. Believe it or not, the 8 F14's you see here were all full body painted in July-August 2005. These eight (plus two more) had to be painted over the period of 30 days right before we deployed on August 30th 2005. Notice how the gloss show bird held up a lot better then the rest. You can see a lot of touch ups that we did throughout the deployment. It was a lot of hours that I remember to get this done over the period of 30 days and at one point I had the guys work for 24 hours straight!

so i told mazdax3 this, lets see if you guys think I'm crazy. how bad is it I'm laying here in my cot, trying to sleep, and instead of thinking bout my girl i think bout how sweet it would be to have everyone at my place having a old fashion cook out in the backyard, and the street out front is just lined with 8's. this ladies and gentleman is a prime example of what happens to you after being up for 23 hours straight.

Welcome recondude. Thank you for your service. I look forward to meeting you when you return home.
As someone who spends a lot of time away from home, I can tell you what you were thinking is normal. You are in an alien environment and by thinking of something normal, it helps keep you in touch with home. For me, that helps maintain my sanity (although my wife might disagree!). Just do whatever works for you to keep your concentration and get home safely.

I've done a few 24+ hour shifts in my younger days, but I'm sure it doesn't compare to what you are going through. The mind does tend to wander in strange ways. One time in my youth I helped drive a VW Super Beatle cross country in one shot. The thing barely topped out at 60MPH and we hit a headwind in Kansas. Knocked us back to 50. About 3/4 across I-70 in Kansas and 3AM, I started seeing semi's right in front of the car and nailing the brakes. About that time we decided to pull over at a rest area and grab a couple hours of sleep. Sleeping in a VeeDub wasn't much fun in November.
Keep us up to date on how things are going and keep your head down. Keep thinking the great RX-8 thoughts.
If anyone is interested, iTunes has a free download of the movie "Truth in 24" about LeMans. Of course, Audi made it, but heck, it's free and in HD too!.
I have it downloaded and I'll probably keep it for viewing on a plane to DFW in a couple weeks.

We were there when OEF and GWOT(back when they still called it that) launched back in 2001. We were on the way to Australia for some R&R, and then we turned around. 21 days of some serious bombing in Oct-Nov and all at night, 454 direct hits with 8 hour missions flown from the Indian Ocean. Ended up being out at sea for 121 days without seeing land. That was my first deployment, and was the most dangerous and hectic due to situational awareness being so high. Here's a pic taken in Jan 2002, 5 days after our return, notice the bombs dropped we painted on this one.

We host you. You don't have to lift a finger. We'll do some meet at a park and grill some burgers and hot dogs.

A couple days. I need to loosen a couple bolts and let it sit a spell. I think the rear is still a little high. Alignment I haven't checked yet. At first, the turn in was rather abrupt and highways it was a little twitchy. Settled down now, but I'm going to get it aligned in a few weeks.

I visited the cemetery yesterday where my father (WWII vet) is buried. I looked at the graves of a number of other vets buried near him. Somber, but great to remember what these brave people did to preserve what we have.
Jeff, we'll be thinking of you and your comrades this weekend. Stay safe.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone - We are down in Largo, FL this week - just had lunch at the American Legion here in Madeira Beach and it was beautiful - saw Dolphins right there at the dock as we ate. Lots of Corvettes but not seeing any other riced out 8's, lol.

Yeah, lots of Viagra, er Vettes in FL. If someone offered me a free Z06, I'm afraid I'd take it. Rather have that than a ZR-1.
It's probably warmer here than in FL. High in the 90s tomorrow. Wish I had a neighbor who had a pool. I guess the next door neighbor's pool, which is inflatable, counts.
Recondude: It will be my pleasure to have a beer for you. Thank you and those who have or are serving! Get home safe. I'll be happy to host a cookout once you return.
Looks like I'm picking up the new beater tomorrow
sure I could have bought something newer, but where is the fun in that? 20 year old BMW, here I come!
