Krylon painting the shrouds came out really well too. Sanded, and polished out my headlights and 3rd brake down to get rid of the yellowing, looks great. My tinted fog light project also came out well. All of this, just took a lot of time, especially cutting my wheel studs, and grinding and cutting the fender's more with a rotary tool. It still hits slightly the bumper tab over speed bumps at higher speed, but I don't think there is any way around that with these worn out shocks... Chief are you listening? I need a stiffer shock, and then I should be fine. The car actually feels more planted with the lower offset when I go fast through turns, which is contrary to what everyone says on here Could be my camber is slightly more negative due to the lower offset.
Dude, I'm not even home yet!

You have that right. Sports cars should always be some form of red.

Does anyone have any experience with these guys

http://www.performance-alignment.com/photos.htm

I would like to get another alignment, but I don't want to go back to Tire Discounters. Reason being, last time they said-1.6 is the most negative camber adjustment they could pull out of it in the front. Is this true? With stock components, can I go a little more, like say -2.0 in the front? I would really like that and maybe -2.2 in the rear. Is this at all possible?

Can someone recommend me a place that can get me closer to these specs?

I have read that using the caster adjustment can get more out of the front, but that is dependant on the car. I have heard of people on here getting -2.0 on stock components, but I was told otherwise. Without having to go to offset lower control arm bushings, is this possible?

I've heard a lot of good things about performance alignment. Jason didn't really like his last alignment on the M3 before selling it though. He had them do it to their recommended specs though. It's more of a feel thing than quality work thing though. If you take them your specs, you should be fine.

You should be able to go past -2 on all four corners at your height without a problem. Nothing else should be needed. The lower the car, the more static adjustment available as we gain negative camber as the suspension compresses.

More caster will actually take away from the amount of camber. Caster adds stability though, so tell them what you want as far as camber specs, then tell them you want as much caster as you can get at those settings. More caster will make the steering feel a little heavier though.

Get your alignment done with you in the car.

Kevin,

Will adjusting the toe in the front a certain way help with the heavy steering feel? I.E. with the additional caster adjustment, can the toe be manipulated to created a lighter steering feel?

I've had two cars done at Performance Alignment. They do good work, as Kevin says they will give you what you want (although if the owner does it he might talk to you if he feels what you want isn't good for your car). Just know they are always busy and it might take them a while to get you in. Plus from my perspective it's a little bit of a pain driving all the way up there.

James, try calling Steele's Hometown Tire in Burlington. They will do your car to the settings you want. Keith is the tech who has done mine, very nice guy and he cares about what he does so takes his time. Pricing was in line with Performance. They probably won't remember my name but just tell them the guy with the fixed-up Miata. They are located on KY18 just before you get to downtown Burlington (on the right side across from the convenience store just before the firehouse). They also have a Hunter RoadForce balancer if you need any tires mounted.

Yes and no. Slight toe out will give you quicker turn in, but you'll be all over the highway chasing every groove and crack in the road. Stick with factory toe settings since yours is a daily driver.

Thanks guys, I will probably wait until I get the new shocks on, as I think it all makes an effect on things, as ride height may change slightly. That way I know exactly what the setup will be if anything is adjusted.

One of my friends had alignments done by Performance. The looks of the shop from the outside don't look that great but the shop is way organized. I'll probably take my car there shortly for an alignment since it's darting around on the highway quite a bit.

Have an appointment on thursday at Eclipse to have tint installed on the 8. For those with tint, what level are you running? I'm used to dark tint, so I planned on 20%, but just curious if anyone has had any run-ins with the law for it.

Didn't realize that anything darker than 50% on the front windows is illegal. Not really concerned about the 8 since I don't drive it that much, but was also going to have tint installed on the wife's car and not sure what level to get for her. 50% is too light IMO.

If anyone else is interested in getting their vehicle done, I am taking 3 cars on thursday to get tints so I'm getting a decent price break. Their "top-of-the-line" tint (Ultra?) is typically $369/car, but I'm getting it for $299/car.

I just had my alignment done on past saturday at Dave Kutney tires.
Recommended by lycanthrope, an I'm very happy with.
I got -2.1 in front and -2.0 in rear for camber, and 0 toe front .03 in rear. I needed that to be done before my first autocross event on Sunday, and i'm very happy with the result.
actually I wanted another -.2 or -.3 more camber for both front and rear, but that was all I could get.
the guy worked on my 8 did tried pretty hard but I guess that was max I could get.

anyways, I had blast on the first autocross event of the season, and if you haven't tried yet, I'd suggest giving it a try. Here's couple videos of my run. First one is my Official best run, but I forgot to turn off the DSC, and it's a bit slower than my UN-official best run (the second video) which did not get recorded due to some timing device issue...
I gotta work on the camera mounting, so that I can take more advantage of having two camera setup.....

Official Best Run (with DSC ON, and you can see it right at the launch and at the last slalom)

UN-Official Best Run

Yeah I looked them up. Eclipse is right down the street and I've seen their work on other cars. My dad has used them for several of his' cars.

I think I am going to go 20% on mine. I think the 8's look great with a dark tint on them. Thanks for the reply.

Eclipse had 4 different style of films going from $169-$369

Allen,

Come down to Fuel on Saturday and show us how it looks. It's second thing on my list after the cat back.

I'm running 35% all round on both my 8 and z28 and have never had any issues...knock on wood. I don't personally care for tint darker than that though, as night visibility drops off significantly for me after that, but a nicer dark tint makes the 8 look even better. Hope it turns out great for you.

I just test drove a '10 Sti hatchback yesterday and all I can say is that I'm very intrigued with the experience, but handling the costs of 3 cars would decimate my bank account in a heartbeat so unless I decide to part ways with either the 8 or the Z (which i don't see me being able to do) I guess I'm going to have to wait a little longer for AWD and spacial practicality.

I would be more than happy with that setup, I will have to look up Dave Kutney Tires. He must of had to do some work to get it at -2.1 in the front.

I am at 20%, here is some new pics.

We can trade. I still have to claybar and machine wax it, I just washed it before the photos and the paint looks pretty bad. If you ever need help with this process, I like doing that kind of stuff. I can swing by and give you a hand with it.

Mine definitely needs a cleaning and a wax. Not even sure where to begin. I'll be asking for advice/help.

How's it going? Joined a month ago after I bought my rx8. Thought I would make my first post here to meet some local people. I'm 23, finishing school and live in the Blue Ash are of cincy. My car is an 05 MT stock but have big plans for it. Only have had it for a month and I haven't loved a car more.
