Ben,

Welcome to the forum. Are you in the ABQ area?

You're correct about the track being the safe place to 'play' and that was the reason we all were there. I think however that we decided that since this car is a main ride we didn't want to take any unnecessary chances with the rain. Actually the track was fairly dry most of the day, but I think given the level of experience of the drivers and the less than 'near' perfect track condition it was smarter to wait until another day.

We will be back!

ordered my new shoes today! I hope those things are going to put some power down. They are the stickiest ones I could find!

We can only hope that they are good in snow too. Did you notice the snow on the peak this afternoon? Not a good sign!

Okay, here is the plan for Sunday...at least to start. Lets meet at about 9am at the Cedar Point Grill in the east mountains. The grill is on 14 north 2-3 miles from I-40 on the East - right - side of the road. We can have breakfast and from there drive to the crest. The road will be fun to drive and there should be some color with the trees changing to make it a drive the passengers will like - as long as they hang on tight.

We can then head south on 14 toward Mountainaire if anyone wishes to take the long straight road stinger has been talking about.

It would be nice to have as many Rotary owners (RX7s and 8s) join us for breakfast as possible and then join us for the drive to the crest. So even if you haven't posted here about Sunday before now, plan on joining us and post us here that you can make it.

Hello All,
New to the forum. I wish I had check the post a few days earlier. I would have liked to meet up for the drive. I am out of Albuquerque and have owned my 8 for about a year. I see you all try to meet up frequently, so I will try for the next one.

Sunday Drive

It was a great and wonderful sunday drive up the Sandias to the Crest. We had a great time meeting all of you Barry/ Holly & Fred / Jill. I hope that our scheduals work out so we all can do this again real soon before the winter gets a frim grip on the mountain.

Sorry you could not make it MD.

It would have been nice to have met you NMOcho. You would have like the drive as well as the company as I know myself and my family did!! hope we can get together here soon.

Jill and I had a good time as well. The weather was great and the clouds were really something to watch....and be in. Jim, I did find something that didn't like all the high powered RF energy at the peak....my camera. Pictures taken on the North side of the building were grainy....some very badly so. Ones taken on the East side of the building and the South side were fine.

It was really great that your family was able to come along. What great children you have...they were a joy to have around. Not something you can say very often with some of the kids today. Or maybe it's just me getting old....

Hopefully more RX8/7s can join us next time....and while I really loved the drive up (and down from) to the crest, I'm not sure Jill did....lol

I will keep an eye out for next outing. Here is a pic of my car. 2004, 6MT. So far I have installed Revi intake, racing beat exhaust and oil/radiator screens. Weekends are best for me. By the way name is Justin

NMOcho,

Sorry about you missing Sunday. Timing is everthing I guess. Do keep an eye on the forum for the next meeting. Hopefully it will come along shortly. We're thinking about checking out the K&I diner on Broadway for breakfast soon. There are a few 8 owners who want to test their ability on the pancakes or the 'Travis'. Brave souls indeed.

I'm in the Corrales area, work near the Big-I so am around several areas of town during the week. Hopefully I'll see ya around....is the car black or green. Hard to tell in the picture for sure.

Sorry I ditched at the last minute. I just had too much to get done this weekend. Plus, my girlfriend had voluteered me to host some of her out-of-town friends and my mom was back in the hospital. So, I just laid low.

Justin, what part of town are you in? Sounds like you have the 2nd most mods of the NM 8's! :p I'd really like to see and hear your exhaust. The turbo has really quieted the exhaust note on mine. I miss that rotary sound! Of course, the BOV has a unique sound, right Kewl?

BTW, Kewl, i have started tuning the maps. I can sense a trip to the dyno in my near future. You should come over and drive it again. Believe it or not, I think its even smoother than before. It could be all in my head, but I think it feels better now that I've smoothed out the AFR (about 11.5 now) and I'm running the Royal Purple. If you want, I have a Canzoomer that we can try out on your car. I have a dyno graph where I gained 12 HP with it. And that was with crappy tuning. I never could get my CanScan to stay running. I'm so glad that my boost controller does that for me now.

Thanks for the compliments on the kids Kewl. No I don't think it is that you are getting old, it is just that most of the kids today seam to not have any respect for themselves or for others. Liz and I have tried to instill that in ours.

As for Jill She is not alone in the color green department. Liz has DRAMAMINE on her shopping list this week for future events.

Most of the pictures that I took did come out prety good. I do have some video footage I am trying to post (with no luck) of you in the lead on the drive down the hill. It is about 2mins long (the disc ran out). Do you have any ideas of how to post it? I had noticed on the Rocky Mountain site that there was video footage from the track day.

Hi Justin! Glade to see you here!!!

MD. I know where you are coming from! It seams my wife does that to me a lot. Hope your Mom is Ok and that it was nothing serious.

Hey MD - sorry to hear about your Mom. I hope she is better soon.

Sorry you had to miss sunday. The crest was really nice and the drive up was great. We had two cars that got in the way, but to our surprise both pulled over at the first available spot. They didn't hold us up very long. The drive down was fun too, but I don't think Jill liked it at all.

I would like to 'test drive' the new maps...if I can find the gears.... I will be leaving Friday to see my mom in Florida so it will likely have to wait until after I return on the 26th. Not sure about the Canzoomer, but we can discuss the idea further. We are thinking about trying to get together again in early Nov., so many we can get more 8's to join in the meet.

Stinger...sorry to say I have no ideas on putting the video's on-line. Do you have a web page you can put them and point to that site from the forum? Not sure how the Rocky Mountain guys did it. For most of the rally pictures we had to FTP in rather than directly from the forum.

Fred

I am in Pardise Hills area of Albuquerque. My car is black, with black leather, all options except for the Navigation System. The revi intake, revi cold air ram and the Racing Beat exhaust create a nice deep note, especially when you get the revs going. If you keep it under 4500 rpm's it's a little louder than stock. Had to install the stainless steel exhaust shields as well to keep the bumper from melting. I would love to see the turbo.
MD. Sorry to hear about your mother, hope she gets well soon.
Talk to you all soon.

No I do not have a web page. Never quite figured out how to set one up. I tried a couple of times but they never worked. I may try again this weekend to set one up.

I was curious if anyone has had to have a lot of warranty work done? I have had a very large list of things.
1. Fuel pump/sending unit replaced (I run Chevron 99% of the time)
2. Instrument panel Plexiglas cracked in the heat
3. Defrost button cracked
4. A/C drain, it had plastic chip from factory
5. All the recalls
6. Currently in summer one of my electric radiator fans will not shut off after turning the car off. It will stay running until my car battery is dead. I have to turn the ignition on then off and then it shuts off. Obviously it’s the temp sensor but Dealer can’t duplicate it. So next summer will try again.
7. Now my rear tail light seal is no good.

I love the RX-8 so I am not that bothered by it as most are really minor, but curious if I just have bad luck.

One CEL right after I got it - 2+ years ago. Reset and nothing since. Recalls and that's about it for me. Just turned over 20K miles this week

wow, Ocho. That's quite a list! I haven't had anything done to mine. No problems at all. 30k miles and counting.

Yeah,
So it sounds like case of bad luck . I forgot to mention that I had a wheel bearing replaced the first week after buying the car. My milage is about 10,500. My joke with the dealer is that I will have a new car one peice at a time. So by the time my 50,000 mile warranty comes up all the parts will have been replaced at least once.

Ocho

I have not had much done to mine. Lets see, they updated the flash about 6 months ago, 2 weeks ago they did heat sheilding recall & while it was in there I had them look at the CD player as well as the temperature controll dial/**** and those are going to be replaced tomorrow. Other than that I have not had any other problems with the 8.

I have to agree it does sound like you will have a completly new car by the time you hit 50k
