Interceptor Tech

I figured we'd be needing this thread soon enough, hopefully anyway. I thought we could use it to discuss anything technical related to the interceptor.

i thought we couldn't use the OEM for wideband because it's not "wide" enough and wont cover the AFR's needed for turbo tuning?

or maybe, in the words of DaveT...I'm growin my own?

The Canscan cannot read below an afr of 10.0, but that is just because the stock computer disregards anything below that. The wideband itself can read lower, but you need to tie into it directly.

scudrunner, is yours the red one there with the MS kit? that car looked so good all blinged up in the shop when I saw it a few months ago.

I've got a technical question. Does the Interceptor have an RPM pickup wire and if so, what pin # is it?

I have an E-01 and need this wire to get the RPM value. Previously, I tapped into one of the wires on the emanage harness (forgot the color). I believe it was extracting the RPM value using a dongle that was attached to the harness.

And while we're on the subject, what about the throttle position wire?

Nice car Scud. Thanks for the vid Scott, seems pretty straight forward, and shouldn't take more than 20-30min to complete. I just want to confirm that we will be removing the old GReddy pressure sensor that was " T " connected to the intake manifold, and b.o.v., and replacing it with the vacuum hose we are to place on the interceptor unit.

Scott, if we use an Innovate LC-1 wideband, O2 w/ controller, can we plug that directly into the interceptor and datalog A/F's?

also, if we're pure (aka Naturally Aspirated :P) can we run the vaccum line directly to the VFAD nipple behind the TB correct? Mine's capped off currently since I have the REVi intake.

Received the unit today. Very well put together. Excellent instruction booklet and install disk. Professional looking. Will get to things here shortly and provide feedback as I can.

I hope mynes sitting there when I get home since I won't be home the rest of the weekend. I'll probably be out there tonight with a flashlight installing it.

I am a little worried about just plugging in and driving though since I don't have a wideband O2 to verfiy that the AFR are okay. I know you don't get very many chances with detonation on a turbo'd rotary. Is anyone else worried about this?

I know its hard not to, but I wouldn't worry TOO much about it for two reasons.

1) I'll bet its plenty rich, given that its a generic map

2) I've gotten REAL lean underboost and not had any detonation. I'm embarassed to say it, but I've had AFRs over 17 at a couple pounds boost and nothing happened. Maybe my engine just resists detonation, but maybe the Renesis resisits it as a rule. I know there have been cases of detonation under 10+psi and the engine was okay, too.

That being said, there's no way I'd use it without an AFR meter!

Just got back from playing 18 holes and the box is here. Not sure I will have time to install this weekend -- can't wait to see the results.

But, the Renesis's detonation resistance may have been a result of its very intelligent computer. But, that computer is no longer in control and the new one doesn't even have a knock sensor in case detonation ocurrs. Maybe I'll wait for someone with a wideband to report back and let us know how his AFR were.

the CEL will still flash under detonation...the PCM just can't retard the timing/cut throttle as it normally would..

that power is your the drivers hands, as it should be!
