I read the q and a's and all that... and i understand that this is a stand alone unit, regardless, youll need to tune it like the emanage -- but it won't be as arduous. However, provided my mods, Greddy turbo, midpipe, and borla exhaust, will the greddy tuned interceptor-x unit provide big jumps in power? Also, will i still need to get a boost controller, etc. w/ this interceptor unit? I don't really want to tune b/c i don't have an extensive background in tuning -- so will this unit truly be plug and play?

The real name of all these units should be Plug and Pay and then go and Play
:D
as individual cars will still need to be fined tuned to get them running at their optimun , as we know not all RX8'S AIR FUEL RATIOS / IGNITION TIMING ADVANCE ARE THE SAME .

so, although i would need to fine tune, this unit will give me noticeable power to go plug and play and then go out and play?

AS far as i know there has been no mention of the extra Hp this unit supposedly gets on a NA engine or a turboed one , guess we will have to wait and see , how much extra power is available ?

Go back, read the first post and then download/watch the video. That was the first question they answered.

I have talked to Scott the other day for a long time, so thanks scott for putting up with me and my questions... This unit really does sounds like Scott did his work and I'am probably going to buy it... The only thing I would really like to see is That I would be able to control it through my E0-1 like I can with my Greddy E-manage, other then that I think you did a Great job....

i take it that the hp gain for the stock na engine will not be that great. Did i understand approx 200 or so?

I can't wait to get back and play with the -8. Scott has been keeping it in his showroom this whole time. I think he's about to get started doing all the work on it this week or so. It should be a finely tuned 300HP+ machine.

michael you are missing the point- the afr and ignition timing will be exactly whatever this unit say they are. you arent adding or subtracting a percentage or a point from what Mazda set them at- you are making them be what you want them to be. it doesnt matter where in the world the car is.

there are free programs on the net that will allow you to convert them to a file you can watch.

After talking with Scott again today, I want to point out to people that his ECU solution utilizes a modified engine management system from another unknown vendor.

This is important becuase the cost of his unit factors this into account, its not simply a box of components and wires like our Megasquirt project that you can buy and assemble with the help of off the shelf radio shack components.

So, there is some fairly high level of fixed cost going into the units, aside from R&D. What that cost is, and what Scott's margins on the unit are, obviously and fairly is his secret.

I want to make this clear so people don't think the are paying $1,700 for some homebuilt box, there is some real proven EMS behind this, Scott doesn't want these things bitting him in the *** and coming back with problems.

After all the brain damage RG and I have put into our project, we may just charge the same amount if we get it working j/k

I made some pricing and marketing suggestions to Scott (that and a nickel will get you a cup of coffee) but I don't expect him to some how lower the price to $300. IMHO, the sweet spot for EMS pricing for product like this is $1,300-$1,500 with all the software and cables. Hopefully Scott can do something to entice the early adopters and make the margins he needs for the business.

That price seems a lot more reasonable to me. It's hard to justify almost 2,000 (1,930 to be exact) dollars for the EMS/Software/Cables. At the price of 1,300 - 1,500 it would be more widely accepted, though if someone is looking for the ultimate performance out of their car than they are willing to pay top dollar to obtain that.

In terms of price we are screwed because there is not enough (good) competition in the ecu area for our cars. All in all i think its a good product.

We if the HKS F-Con in the PTP thread is the real deal (see thread) then it is also about $1,700 for the equipment. That has larger maps, 32x, which would be good for the ultra high HP folks.
