Hey jeff,

if i get my turbo installed before getting it tuned on the socal dyno day and drive an hour on the freeway with the basemap installed will that damage anything?

It should drive almost perfectly on the base map. Its not dangerous.
In fact, its not far off what the final tune would be, pending proper MAF and injector scaling.

\\Konig\\ 12-31-2008 04:18 PM

okay good to know!

id be using the AEM intake and stock injectors

Then, just download the appropriate base calibration and go with it.
As always, be cautious going into boost and start with the lowest possible boost setting until you are certain that the boosted AFRs are at least 12:1 or less.
You may see boosted values as low as 9:1!
I try to put the base calibration fuel values in a range that yield about 10.9:1, but MAF and injector variations screw with that quite a bit.

\\Konig\\ 12-31-2008 04:32 PM

okay, thank you very much jeff! =)

alienRX8 12-31-2008 04:43 PM

Yeah Konig it should work. I had that same base map when I installed the turbo. So its good to go.

Just drive carefully like Jeff says

shaunv74 12-31-2008 06:44 PM

I just submitted my idle and cruise datalogs for scaling. Definitely a smoother process. :)

alz0rz 01-01-2009 12:45 AM

I know this has been asked once before but I just wanted to clarify.. replacing my CAT with a midpipe (mazsport, in this case) will not require a new tune correct? It will just "make available or free up" horses that the engine already puts out, yes?

ShellDude 01-01-2009 11:08 AM

I'll tell ya in a week weather permitting. Jeff has stated ad nauseum that a new tune is not required.

Mr.&Mrs.Magic 01-01-2009 12:01 PM

Jeff I think I messed up

:icon_no2: You sent me my first updated base calibration on 17 Dec and after running it for a few days I sent you the loggs LTFT was at -0.94. <- This is where I messed up I think. When sending the 11 Deadly Questions I left out my Turboxs exhaust that was sent for the previous calibration on 17 Dec. The current cailbration in question was recieved on 25 dec. I sent you an email on 29 Dec with proper loggs and the 11 questions voicing my concern as the LTFT was now at 5.3 and since sending the email it has gone to 7.

Just trying to let you know that I left out the exhaust in my previous email and this maybe the reason the ltft is off.

SIDE NOTE- I have a huge hangover and this seems hard to read. Is it?

neXib 01-01-2009 04:42 PM

We're supposed to watch our ltft? I'm just looking at AFR :P (though I browse everything when sending logs to Jeff)

Yes and No. That's what the inital idle loggs are for once you get past that then you done with fuel trims unless it goes grossely off. He recals the MAF so your fuel trims are closer to +/- a few of 0 then on to WOT logging which is where i was till I screwed the pooch. Mine were close but now not so much. On the other hand he may have put it there for a reason and my missing the exhaust in the 11 questions has nothing to do with it.:fingersx:

Your watching your AFR so you don't blow your motor.

ShellDude 01-01-2009 05:07 PM

Actually, running NA watching your AFRs isn't out of fear of blowing your engine. Our cars are factory / recall tuned so friggin rich that it takes forever to get it leaned properly... at least that's what I would call typical for us.

Some cars a weird though and this is why we watch. I had a problem for a bit of going well into the upper 16's low 17 under wot. Hot day, bad gas and AFR of 17 can = have a nice day.

First of all, exhaust doesn't matter at all.

Let me see if I understand what has transpired.
You loaded v4.0, ran it and sent me logs. I sent you v4.0.1 and you sent logs again based on v4.0? Now you are on v4.0.2 and the LTFT is +7?

You need to start over again. I do not maintain a file trace - just the last version and it assumes good logs based on the preceding version.

I loaded v4.0, ran it and sent you logs. You sent me a v4.0.1 at which point ltft was at -0.94 and then I sent you the logs which excluded exhaust "which doesn't matter now. You then sent me a v4.0.2 and stated to start the wot operations. This is the most current version(v4.0.2) which has Ltft currently at +7.

So how about we just start over right?

MazdaManiac 01-01-2009 06:56 PM

You can just send me your previous logs for v4.0 and I'll send you a new v.4.0.1 and see what happens.
You shouldn't need to go through part 1 again.
Just make sure you point out that the logs were your first set (for v4.0.) and not something else.
That will save you some time.

Hey Jeff,

I'm pretty anxious for these maps...

Mr.&Mrs.Magic 01-01-2009 07:00 PM

cool beans done and done.

MazdaManiac 01-01-2009 07:54 PM

Got it.

I know I know.

Jasonawojo 01-03-2009 12:42 AM

Just checked out my logs and noticed the idle ltft got much worse with the 4.0.2 (+20), while in the other logs it went from negative a few to positive a few.

Oh, in between getting the tunes back I've been going back to my other tune since I've been driving a lot lately. The limit to the number of times you can flash is way off into the thousands right?

Jedi54 01-03-2009 12:46 AM

there's a limit? :scratchhe

any flash memory has a flash limit at which point stability becomes an issue, i remember it being talked about on here before in the early AP days, but dont know if anything better than "dont worry about it" was reached
