Used car purchase - Austin S.A. area
Hey guys,
My friend has hit a spot where he needs to buy a car for the first time in a few years (he had lived without one successfully for a while).
He doesn't have much to play with 10-12K, so I've trying to browse some websites for used cars... like autotrader.com, but I'm wondering if there's a better alternative to finding used car information/sellers?
What I'd like to try and find is a year or two used Mazda3... but I'm not coming up with anything. Any help to show some avenues of searching would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

carmax for the win, buddy of mine has purchased 3 cars from them with no issues whatsoever. www.carmax.com located right by parmer ln/35.
edit: they might be to expensive however, there's also craigslist, the mazda3 forum etc. 10-12 should be plenty to get something nice, I believe my buddy's Acura TL (or TSX, whatever the 2 door one is called) cost lesss than that and it is mint.

I actually work at a dealership... Alamo Toyota. I'm not a salesman, I'm one of the managers. We have a used car lot, and another used car lot downtown SA. Check us out. You can look at our lot downtown at AlamoDowntown.com

Thanks guys for the tips/links guys. I'm doing my part to land him in a Mazda, but it's pretty much whatever fits the budget.
I'll be checking out the alamo downtown link as well.

My cousin sells cars at Universal Toyota and I'm sure he could hook you up because they have a used lot as well. Just tell him to be patient and he will find something. I got mine with 12k on the odometer for 22k financed. Is he paying cash?

He has only been there a few months but is selling his *** off. His name is Frank Gonzales. He drives a very tight S2000 and has owned 2 EVO's and a T3 powered RSX. He is actually my wifes cousin but we are tight, he's my wrenching partner.

Holy ****, yes he had a whack *** riced out 88 lude. Freakin hilarious! Did you ever own a Lexus IS? I am 31 so when he was in High School I had already graduated from UTSA and been in the Navy. But at some car shows I did meet soem guys from High School. He is a dipshit sometimes so hopefully you guys are cool.
Man, he won't shut the **** up about the damn Tundra. My dad is president of a Nissan Off Road club and owns an Xterra and a Titan so we are always hassling him.

Yes, it was riced out, but then, what wasn't back then, compared to todays standards.
No, I never owned an IS, but I did own a GS. I was never really a close friend of his, we had one class together in highschool, and street-raced (thought it was cool at the time) a few times. I actually bought a set of coil-overs from him when he had an Integra.
That's funny that you're his cousin, and we met this way. I actually didn't know he even worked at Universal till I saw him earlier this month.

Crazy! Yeah, I forgot about the white Teg. My house was his personal mod shop for many years before he started making real cash and got his own house. I taught him a lot when we installed the Turbo kit on his RSX, I am pretty sure it was the first turbocharged RSX in SA at the time. He won some nice shows with that car. He is a pretty good wrencher now but a little **** a retentive when it comes to his cars. This is crazy.

heh... no problem, it was funny reading it.
So my friend decided on the Scion TC. He likes the duel sun roof thing... I guess that's okay, he's not much of a guy that likes driving- he thinks all manual transmissions are the same. :P
thanks anyways guys,
michael
