You know, after watching that video again, the biker should have been pulled over for almost creating an accident, and then given a ticket for the false report and wasted man hours from the police.

I was getting an amazing 15.5 MPG on the Highway the other day. I was really surprised.

I know that she got in my face and yelled at me when we went through town.

But on another note, perhaps I should keep my opinions to myself. One main thing I would like to know, in irderto count myself in, would be to know how the track would be run. I for one would love to drive it, however with knowing that drivers have different limits and not all if us know those limits, I wouldn't want to be running in groups. Has that sort of thing been worked through yet? Or still planning?

Awesome man, glad to hear you plan on coming out! Looking forward to seeing the 8!

How the track day will be ran is still being planned out I believe. Right now it looks like Riley is just trying to figure out if people are even interested. So your question is definitely something to discuss further.

Still planning. I can't really try and piece any of that together till A. I can commit to the track that we have at least 20 people going, and B. I know who exactly the 20+ people are.

Edit: My hope was not to have to run the track in groups (aka have it be an open thing were you get on and off the track as you please)

The track is REALLY long and if we were only able to get 20 there would be lots of space between cars just due to the track size.

I'd have a drivers meeting to discuss the track a bit and then a slow parade lap to let people get a feel before opening it up.

Rules I've thought about:
1. No passing in corners/turns EVER. (I'll kick you out myself) I know for a fact there are plenty of skilled drivers here that could more than handle it, but I really don't want to have to deal with everyone trying to pull that off.
2. If you hog the track (ie aren't paying attention and/or don't let people faster than you pass in the straights) you will be given a "warning" first and then if that doesn't work a "time out" and then asked to leave.

I'm in. Can't wait. Keep up the good work and just know that those that plan any event always have a target on their back. I've not been around these RX-8 events for long, but anyone who's willing to step and plan an event has my admiration. Ignore the negative and let those of us interested know how we can help make it happen.

Now the hard part. I was pretty sure given the member base that we could easily achieve 10. We are now at 11 and that means we need 9 more to make this a reality.

Well thankfully in some instances your reputation isn't earned. I've seen you do some pretty silly stuff (like doing a 180 full stop with screeching tires in front of a police station) but I haven't seen you do anything that would make me suspect you couldn't handle a track.

I'm down. A track day sounds cool. But, I see how costs could play a huge part in participation or lack thereof.

I've wanted to try Eagles Canyon for a while now and it's just as close as my home track Hallett. Count me in.

I have a few non-rx8 track buddies that have always wanted to try Eagles Canyon as well. If you need a couple more to make it to 20 let me know.

$200 for a track day is a whole lot cheaper than a ticket for "canyon carving" or "street racing" or whatever else you'd get hit with. And then you also won't have innocent bystanders to crash into or traffic in your way....

April 7th doesn't work for me, but if you want me to I can put the word out within the NASA club if you want a couple more people to fill out the group and make the economics work. At that price for a truly open trackday I'm sure you'll have as many takers as you want, it's a good deal.

If they are RX8's then sure, but currently we are trying to keep the track only for 8 drivers (7's would be ok as well).

If others want to come as instructors, that would be awesome tho.

I'm not knocking the idea, but ECR is a very technical track with little run off room (15-20 feet before you are into large rocks.) youtube ECR and you can see what I am talking about. Somewhere like MSR seems like it would be overall more enjoyable by the group as you can get a faster overall speed due to the longer runs.
Also turn 6, the surface is coming up (unless it has been resurfaced within the last 2 months) and will eat through street tires - I will give you names of people who have had this experience personally.

I don't think this is a super idea for a meet if there are people without any track experience, especially since there is No Instructors (unless you bring you own.)

I would like to ensure that these items are handled before plunking down 200.00 on a track day.

I know I can handle the technical capabilities of the track, but I don't want to see any of my friends push their limits a bit too far and end up breaking something.

Just my .02

To get instructors the typical arrangment in this country that an experienced instructor (ie one you want to have) will expect would be to exchange driving sessions for instructing sessions. Or cash payment in some rare cases, but that'll raise the cost for your people that would like instruction. Most instructors are going to want to come out and run some themselves though.

I am pretty sure I'm the only RX8 driver that runs with NASA-TX, I can't think of any regular FD or FC people, and the FB racers I run against with my MR2 don't instruct and I don't anymore as well. However if you wish to lift the car type restriction to either get a couple more entries to make the economics work, get some instructors, or both - let me know and I'll spread the word for you.

You need to watch Road Atlanta video if you want to call ECR high risk. It isn't in any way shape or form bad all things considered. 15-20 feet is a laughably low estimate of the typical run off room in spots where someone would actually mess up. Anyway MSR-C and TWS are the only two in this state that I've been to that I'd say were lower risk. You can mess up anywhere on any track in the wrong spot and mess a car up, but that's the same for being a goofball out on the roads too. Goofball on the road being higher risk honestly as they're not designed for the speeds you would want to run to have fun.

When was the last time you were out there? I was there in late Oct this year and didn't note any bad spots myself in the few sessions I was out in the R3.

You do bring up something that sparks a thought I would like to share though - be smart and work up to your limits and just back off and have fun if you feel you're pushing too much. It should be fun, and it shouldn't be competition.

If you want lower risk than the tracks in this state offer, host an autocross instead really. But I still say it would be difficult to mess up a car at EC without a boneheaded mistake from pushing too hard and even then you'd have to also mess up in the wrong spot too. Does not happen often at all. I've spun and been off in quite a few different spots racing my MR2 there and haven't had any damage beyond getting the car dirty.
