hello everyone, first time poster here! to start, i'd like to say that i hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving! this december i will have owned my rx8 for 2 years.

now for my dilemma. a couple of months ago i had the racing beat dual resonated midpipe put on my 08 rx8 and have had the check engine light on ever since. this december i have the state inspection and i know i won't pass with the cel on. unfortunately, i do not have my stock cat anymore.

is there anyone in the san antonio area who would not mind letting me borrow their stock cat for the test, or if someone would even let me 'borrow' their accessport so that i can get rid of this dang light forever than that would great as well?

any help would be greatly appreciated, and again, the inspection is not until this december so there is no rush. thanks!

Ummmm yeah,
The Cobb AP doesn't work that way. Yes it will mask the CEL however ... HOWEVER .. this only works if the Cobb AP is married to the ECU.
What this means is if I wanted to lend you my AP I would have to un-marry (for the lack of a better word) it from my ECU and marry it to your car.
While this would mask you CEL for the inspection once you gave me back my AP your CEL would be present again.

oh damn i didn't know that, but as long as it gets me through the inspection this year i'll be glad. for future inspections i know i am going to need a more permanent means to pass.

Even if you mask the CEL it will still fail the sniff test. And if you borrow a cat you will have to clear the codes and drive around for a few days to pop all the readyness monitors. Why didn't you keep the cat when you did the test pipe?

There is no sniff test. I have one I can let you borrow but I will require a deposit because I don't know you. Or an easier way is if you want you can come by and I can clear the code and then you can go straight to get your inspection done. As long as they don't see the CEL you shouldn''t have any issues (hopefully).

Oh, and check out the SARX lounge, that is where us SA locals hang out.

It was my mistake for not keeping my stock cat and I can't afford to buy a stock cat or the accessport right now.

today after putting in new coils & spark plugs the cel went away, so i thought i would take a shot and get it inspected. lo and behold, i passed!

i have no idea why it went away but it did, and the weird thing is that i had the cel checked out by autozone and they told me it was my cat.

**** man, sorry I forgot all about you. I did the Ghengis meet once, it was a lame, there were more of us than anyone else. My build is just about buttoned up, after that I would like to get SARX meet setup for the holidays. I was hoping to get a run through the 3 sisters setup but I need to get tuned and broken in before I start thinking of runs so far from home.

The city and county of Medina is right outside of San Antonio. If it's Medina Base then it's actually in San Antonio. Transfer there, then you could be warm all year round and hang out with SARX.

Yes, its Medina base.. i still got a year or so left of school but then I'm good. I also have Colorado springs... but I think they get snow at their elevation.

Hawaii is a posting for me as well.. but i'll never see it.. id have to suck alot of..... to even be considered

Medina base isn't bad, I have lived in or been to most of the major cities in the US and San Antonio is great if you ask me.. Hawaii is way better, I grew up in Kahaluu Hawaii.

yeah, so I hear from the people that worked there.. due to our military salary which is not so good.. Basic private starts at 40,000 a year.. so they only send corporals and above ( around $60,000 a year, for a corporal ) and they still give you posting living differential, since its so expensive to live there.

its not that expensive to live here.... i was making like 38k a year and was able to live very comfortably

now that I make more, ofcourse it is easier and nicer life style


you can find a good little house with garage for around 900 in a decent neighborhood, as long as you dont mind the commute to work, everything around the bases are over priced because of the military

you talking about hawaii or texas ??? Hawaii sounds fun, however it would feel like an over stayed vacation... if that makes sense.. i would chose to go to texas, which i found out they cancelled that posting, but opened Georgia
