Smog inspection/registration

In the Dallas area is there such thing as a smog requirement. What's the process if I have my car register in this area from out of state (california)? thanks...

The situation is, that the car is still has a valid California registration and not expired yet, but due to the California requirement, it might be hard to make it passed for the up comming renewal. So, if the car is to be registered in TX (Dallas) would that be possible and does TX (Dallas) has any smog requirement for the car?

yup, u don't have to "smog" it, but we do have emmision test, and u have to pass it if u register in dallas area, houston area, austin area, and san antonio area.

we plug it into the port underneath ur DSC buttons.. i forgot what it's called, and the computer calculate it.

It's where they plug something in the muffler exhaust. It measures the emissions coming out. ie is your car polluting the enviroment. Ya they also plug that thing u said also.

Oh ya forgot, there are two different tests.
One for the older cars/trucks and another one for the newer ones.

I forget since where I inspect my car there is only a safety test. Takes less than 5 minutes. $14.50 In my area they don't have the emissions test.

For the areas posted in above post, its like $39.95 includes both tests, safety and emissions.

I have my CEL light on, and if they plug something like and OBD2 device on the car, they might fail it. What area of Dallas are you that only does safety checks?? For just safety checks, I assume they only do seat belts and lights checks right? thanks...

You won't pass a "proper" inspection with a CEL. There are places that will turn a blind eye to that for an additional "fee". You may want to inquire with any turbo owners.

If I recall correctly, even if you're out in podunk, if your insurance shows you as living in a emissions controlled area, you'll have to do the full test.

On the flip side, if you live in podunk and do the test in a metro area, you pay the full emissions test price and they just perform the safety inspection.
