May 8 - Laps for Charity
A fan Favorite! You're the driver when Texas Motor Speedway opens the speedway to the public. Experience the thrill of driving your car around the 1.5-mile oval! Cost: $25 donation for each three-lap drive.
For anyone who didnt see the previous post, this event is open to anyone who wants to drive, so let all your friends and family know as well.
I'll be there for sure.

2 pace cars...one in front and one in back, as long as you stay between the two, the guys in the L club said that since we went as a group (cars of 12 let out at a time) they let them do pretty much what they wanted, since they were respectful too..not sure exactly
2 years ago they hit 90ish..last year ....... 120+...not really sure, but how can you beat doing 3 laps on TMS.
cya there
:D

They aren't very strict on speed, but it's kind of hard to get some real speed for any length of time. You are in a cluster, so be aware of everyone around you, especially since 99% of them have not driven on such banking, nor have they done any performance driving. There's going to be at least one Rusty Wallace wannabe out there in each group.
That being said, I don't know of any accidents that have happened, and since it's a non-competition event, your car insurance covers anything you do out there. And it's pretty cool to drive on the track if you've never had the chance (although, it's not anything compared to doing a track event when they convert it to the roval course, and you are actually at the limits on the banking... WOOHOO!!!). As long as you aren't expecting to do land speed records out there, you shouldn't be disappointed.
FAIR WARNING!: Alot of people will get the need for speed, and they will be racing away from the racetrack afterwards. Because of this, the local constabulery will be on every road leading away from the racetrack. Don't expect your radar detector to magically save you. They use instant-on, they only ping people who are obviously speeding, and they will pull groups over. I'm telling you this from experience. No, I didn't get caught, I figured that the cops would be out there with all of the rich people in their fast cars racing around, so I kept my speed under control, and made it through several speed traps each time I was at one of those drives.

I did this at Texas World Speedway back in 1977 and it was a blast. The banking there is so steep that you had to be going 80 just to stay in the first lane in a corner. I had no problem getting to the top of the track.
If anyone gets a chance to take a few laps at the track in Dallas or anywhere else, go for it. Don't let a little distance stop you. The only thing that should stop you from going is time. As in I just saw the information a month late. :-(
