I got the other computer hooked up. The virus is still here, wreaking its havoc. That's my next project.

I think that's one of them. I've had to do several scans since there's not enough memory and there are 15 or so as of right now. I'm getting what we call at work the "blue screen of death." Basically, I turn the computer on and get this blue screen that says "you're screwed" in computer talk.

Ive had those. All i had to do was reboot the comp completely. Lost all my files but my comp was ok after that. BUT 2 months later there was a storm and the power went out and caused my comp screen to explode internally. So I got a new computer

How do you reboot completely? Other than shut it off and turn it back on? I'm not thrilled about losing my files, but oh well.

I just used the reboot disks that came with the comp. It basically just sets your comp back to the way it was when you first got it.

Probably. It was a grad present in Dec 02. I'd go check for you to be sure, but as I said, "Blue screen of death."

should be XP then, but I've never seen a blue screen with Xp, just the earlier windows stuff

you should be able to reload the operating software without losing your files though, you would just have to reconfigure the setings and download all the updates again

I don't have any operating software to reload. All I have is the laptop. I lost the other stuff during a move.

as long as you can access your drive and you don't reformat when you reload the os you should be ok, have you tried restarting using "last known good configuration"? You can get there by hitting f8 before the splash screens come up while loading windows etc. you might also want to try safe mode, see if it boots up then, if it does you might have a driver/service launching that's preventing you from getting into win-ders.

It is the same as the power button, turns the power supply on/off.
