That law is such BS anyways. I will NEVER mount that eye sore on the front of my 8, law or no law. Is bad enough we have to deal with those dumbass stickers all over our windshield.

We'll out of all the places I've spent a decent amount of time living in Texas, Austin is definately the most packed with cops. Austin police, Travis county police, williamson county police, the state troopers have a huge facility here... And crime is really low so most of their time is spent driving around and trying to harrass people for money. They'd just tase and rob you if they could get away with it. Instead you catch them staring in at you (instead of paying attention to the road) just looking for a reason. I just wish they'd fire some of those F***s and buy more street sweepers to clean the streets and pick up the rocks chippin my paint.

lol, some of the cops are rather cool if you can beat them to it. i had a motorcycle cop in austin that i was looking at him looking at me.. like 3 yards apart, then like the light turn green, i drove forward and move from left most lane to right most lane. where he proceeded to pull me over, he walks up to me, and i just tapped my inspection sticker. he kinda chuckled and gave me a warning lol.

I know not ALL cops are the bubba redneck, out to make a dollar off of you type of police. Once I had a guy actually ask me why, and really listened when I explained and he ended up giving me a warning. BUUUUTTTTT that's about 1 in 20 so that's why I say what I do. I had to explain to an english guy here for SXSW that not all Texans like giant trucks just yesterday.

And if you're wondering how I've had so many interactions with cops... I like speed

The '2 plate debate' is years old. Here's why it will never go away. The original reason TX decided to stick with 2 plates was because back in the day we were all still using radar to clock speed. For radar to get a good lock you need a flat reflective surface. Now whats on EVERY car thats flat and reflective?? Yup.
Well now that we have gone mostly to laser which can pick out a single car in a second or two, we dont much enforce the 2 plate rule. However; when you know you got dope in a car, or a known sh!tb@g, you have to have PC for a traffic stop. AS many of you stated, TONS of cars dont have 2 plates, which gives us 'built in' PC for a traffic stop. I cant tell you how many arrests and how much dope I have gotten from a missing front plate.
So thats why we'll always have the front plate. If you dont wanna be hassled, put it on. If you dont care, leave it off, but dont b!tch when you get a ticket. In my department, other cops give you a hard time if you out writing tickets for no front plates...even COPS think its a chicken$h!t citation.

^^^^Yea, that is a BS ticket for sure.....and I rag on my colleagues when I find out that they actually took the time to write that one out. Goes right up there with "insufficient wiper blade material" or "defective license plate lamp".... Mind you, those are good stops, but actually writing a ticket for that is BS.

But, many departments rely heavily on "traffic" units for city income and that is unfortunate. A previous department I worked for (Beaumont, Tx) purchased ten motorcycle units strictly to raise income for the city when the city manager basically bankrupted the city due to mismanagement. And trust me, those traffic officers (writing 25 tickets a day on average) did more to antagonize the community than providing any measurable increase in traffic safety.

That's exactly what I'm sayin. Why would you antagonize the people that live in the community, town or what have you? My town sits right on a major highway (rt. 35). I'm sure there are tons of people speeding or have something else going on besides my missing front plate. THOSE are the peeps they should be watching out for and catching.

They stop me for that front plate, who knows who else they could stopped or what they would've found!

Signed, is this post really from last April?? Ha, that's about the time I took my plate off anyway, the way I drive I hand the cops reasons to pull me over, they don't even notice the license plate! Zoom-zoom!

The front plate thing doesn't really bother me. I leave it off. If I get a ticket so be it. I'm not putting it back on. I also go a few years between inspections as I don't average a ticket a year and the ticket price is cheaper and easier to take care of than getting a 24 year old car to pass emissions. Little laws like this are an inconvenience. It's nothing more than an imposed tax. When the RX-7 goes out, it's only at night for short trips anyways so the odds of me getting a ticket in it aren't very high.
