Did you like the increased rigidity with your bracket? Was it worth buying Nick?

 

my clutch bracket wasnt breaking or broken. i got it as preventative maintenance. so im not sure im qualified to answer. however, im sure its done its job. i havent had any other clutch issues, so, yeah i guess its worth it.

 

Okay so my car is on Jackstands right now after disassembling the brakes and installing the Racing Brake slotted rotors.

The front calipers were gone, the dust boot was torn and worn away which was causing my brakes to stick. I called Curtis and had Troy pick me up a set of front calipers for $60 because, obviously, I cant drive. I havent seen the new front calipers but they should be in good condition, they were apparently off of a 27K RX8.

My BHR Flywheel, MS Exedy Clutch and ACT Counterweight came in the mail today!!!
I cleaned my rear brakes today as well so I could get them ready to be painted. Should be cleaning the fronts and painting the whole set on Wednesday so I can install them on Thursday hopefully and get my car off of jackstands so I can drive it to Rotary Performance to get my BHR Fly and Mazdaspeed Exedy clutch installed. Hopefully I can get my car in running condition by the middle of next week.

* I noticed a couple of things during the dis-assembly of my brakes that pissed me off but made me happy at the same time.
1) Im leaking oil from my oil pan... WTF!!! Jesus if its not the tranny leaking oil now its the oil pan... So I ordered from Mazmart the REmedy oil pressure increase regulator to increase oil pressure to 100 psi http://www.mazmart.com/ItemDetail.aspx?id=586. I will have RP install it along with a new oil pan. This doesnt bother me because my low oil light sensor was freaking out anyways, randomly coming on, so a new oil pan comes with a new sensor (I believe).
2)My endlink was loose which was more than likely the very loud front end chatter I had. I checked the Koni's and pushed on them... Still heard the fluid inside of them so it seems they are good and working fine.

 

Wait you are installing a whole new pan? Just have them redo the gasket.

 

Have you taken off your oil pan and tried to reuse it? its kinda flimsy and you end up bending the **** out of it if your taking it off. I mean I suppose I can tell RP to reuse the oil pan... but then my oil light sensor will still be fucked up and coming on randomly still...

 

Yea I've taken my pan off several times no issues.

Also it doesn't come with a new sensor.

I'd just reuse the pan and put a resistor int he sensor, thing is pointless anyways.

yes. i've removed the oil pan on both cars. and just used red silicone as a gasket. works fine. new oil pan = waste of $

secondly, you can order a caliper rebuild kit for less than $10. new dust boots, seals, etc. you can get it together in about 5 minutes once you have the brakes off.

i rebuilt the calipers on the 7 this way, it cost $6 to rebuild both front calipers that are 30 years old and sat for 5 years. you buying new calipers was a complete and total waste. sorry man

edit: the most expensive caliper rebuild kit from rockauto is $3.75. you would need two. thats $7.50 as an absolute maximum price

 

More than likely but I already plan to rebuild the old ones, I just wanted a new set to get on my car asap. Dont worry I will rebuild these as more than likely try to sell them or to have around as as a extra set. Where did you buy your rebuild kit?

I didnt buy new calipers, I got a used set $60, not like it was a huge waste.

I am on the fence, I know a new oil pan for the sake of a sensor is stupid but it bothers me and I like to have everything on my car working...

 

$60 is quite a bit. but whatevs.

 

Its one of those sensors that if it goes off you engine is dead, kind of like the coolant sensor. Just leave it unplugged and pay attention to your car.

But its your money do what you want...

 

cleaning up the old pan is a pita, it's not a waste to buy a new one if you are paying some shop $80+ hour labor to do it, that's one of the reasons why the dealership will just order a new pan, it also is only sold as a complete assembly including a new sensor, you can buy everything else separate but they don't sell a stripped pan

 

What he said. Went through your oil pan issue sensor myself. The stealership told me the exact same thing. Its a pita to replace the sensor and cheaper in terms of labor to just order a new pan because it does indeed come with a new one. So I just sold the car instead of deal with it :P

 

nope. ive had it come on twice due to neglect. checked the oil, dipstick was dry. added oil. no further issues.

 

Thomas, don't you know that new cars don't come with a new sensor?

 

Well Brandon...If I were an rx8, and my owner filled me with synthetic oil, I would start an oil leak too...Poor Amanda...smh...

 

So you're saying that if you get lubed up, you're going to start to leak?

Didn't know they sold it with the sensor. I agree with you on the labor bit, it would take a shop a good 2-3 hours to properly clean it and remove all of the gasket mount and install it.

I thought he was going to do the oil pan himself....

Interesting... I check mine at every fill up, unless you have a massive leak that should suffice.

Heck even when I had a massive leak that sufficed.

Sounds like it's time for a PSA about making sure your dipstick gets serviced regularly.
