nothing every goes right for me...

Sunday, I was driving along, minding my own business, when all of a sudden a STUPID dog throws itself in front of my car!!!

Of course, my car is too low to allow the dog to hit and roll underneath, so the dog is being pushed in front of my car until it weges itself in the right front corner just before it gets run over by my right front tire. Then it bounces around underneath, and gets hit again by the back tire!

Now I wouldn't be so upset, maybe more remorseful, had the dog died. But the STUPID thing lived! So I have a right to be mad because it screwed up the front of my car!!

It hit hard enough to completely bend my licence plate, crack the bumper portion, tear the right side of the front air dam down, and jar the fog lights and rotary accent loose.

I think I'm going to have to pay all out of pocket since it's not quite enough to calim on my insurance since I have a $500 deductible. I think might go with the replica mazdaspeed front end, and then have somebody paint it, and I'll pu tit on or, see how much they will charge to put it on.

What do you think I'm looking at cost wise? Can you think of a better way/less expensive but not half-***?

I know there's been a lot of Gulf region people w/ similiar experiences.

Just out of curiosity, did you take it to the vet, or did the owners or anyone? Or are there dog owners out there who don't even know their dog got hit with a car? You could be an ******* and try to get the owners to pay for your car since their idiot dog ran into the street :D

That sucks. I hate it when they commit suicide that way.

When my dog ate my front bumper (long story), I opted for the MazdaSpeed kit, but I went for the authentic version and all four body piece (didn't do the spoiler). If I remember correctly, the real deal (front only) can be had for around $1250 and comes painted (well, for most colors anyhow). If you have a screwdriver and a couple of sockets, you can install it pretty painlessly in a matter of a couple hours or less.

So, maybe a replica can be had for less, you just have to hope the paint matches right, if not have it blended. You'll likely pay far more for paint and body than the actual piece if you go for the replica.

Good luck.

EDIT: Lemme clarify what I said in the last paragraph... If you get a replica, the paint and body will likely cost more than just the replica bumper piece. You still might come in below the authenic MS price for the same thing.

you dont have to go with MS - theres some other nice kits out there that are relatively inexpensive compared to the MS Kit.

Yes, I stopped. The owners were there, and I helped load him up so they could take him to the vet. The thing is the people were very poor. I coult tell, I wasn't going to get any money out of them, and I didn't even know how they were going to pay for the vet, so I didn't even bring it up.

About the replica.

I really like the MS kit, but seeing as how my car is going on 3 years old, I know a pre-painted one will not match correctly. Plus I didin't want to spend quite that much unless I really had to. I've seen a lot of pictures of repliicas, and they look good to me. Have you heard of any problems with these? Or have you had any bad experiences with them?

^ thoughts?

I have an ex-uncle who lives in garland, and owns a garage, no paint and body, but he does business with several in the area, and might be able to get me a deal on it. I just don't know if I trust the type of shops he uses...

Most likely I figure it will cost me around $400 to have it painted correctly? yes/no?

I had a horrible experience with the replica I originally started with, here is a list of the problems I had:

1. big major problem- fitment (duh) Now I knew going in it might have to be worked a bit, but the front end I got (Mspeed by extreme dimensons) was completely horrible. For starters, the bumper had no holes along the bottom lip so the only way for me to mount it would have been to make my own, then there's the top where it meets the hood etc, omg the gap was gigantic, then there's the sides, my side marker lenses didn't even fit in the openings, and each side hung about a 1/8 inch off the side (stuck out on each side basically). The back bumper was disgusting as well, didn't line up worth a flip, holes were off, the whole thing was just a gigantic pile of useless plastic. (and this was supposed to be the urethane "kit" as well).
2. 2nd big major problem- Customer service, oh sure the guy assured me it would fit, he's sold a ton of them etc etc etc. Well when it got to the shop it was a total disaster, we tried calling homedude back to tell him we were not satisfied, wanted to return it and at the time I was just going to go back to stock. Well he pretty much refused to take it back, told us there were no returns, and that it did fit and just needed to be adjusted etc. We sent the guy pictures of how off it was, and afterwards were pretty much ignored every time we tried contacting them afterwards.
Maybe I'm an isolated incident, maybe it won't happen to you with some other chintzy knock off, but maybe it will as well, and the whole thing could have been avoided if I'd stuck with a reputable kit instead of trying to save a little money etc. (since I really couldn't afford the real thing at the time, the only way I did is the shop helped me out a bit)

When I got the Mazdaspeed, the fitment was flawless (still is) and the quality of the materials was vastly superior, this is a kit that will last the length of time I own my vehicle, or if I end up selling/trading it whoever else has it from there. Even if the replica would have possibly fit even half way decent, it wouldn't have lasted, it would have fallen apart after a while, or come up with some other issue I'm sure, and why go through that on purpose if you can swing the real deal? That's just my take, and that's why I always, always tell people to go with real parts from real companies, the addage "you get what you pay for" is never more true than when it comes to automotive parts, you go cheap, you get cheap, and you get half *** results, period.

What do you think about the paint? That's a big concern of mine. I know it won't match my paint because of my car being older.

what color is your car? my car was already 2 years old last year when I got the sides, they came pre-painted (one of the last sets available in yellow) and they match fine, the only time they look off is when the car is dirty lol

But anyway, I decided I'll probably just go through the insurance so I can do it right. I was thinking I would just pay the difference out of pocket the difference in cost for the Mazdaspeed replacement. Then I talked to the parts department at a mazda dealership who said the oem part vs the Mspeed is about $1000 difference. So I'm thinking I'll just stick to stock for now. Or maybe there is this one kit which I like but need to do more research. It's about $500 difference but we'll see.

They gave me names of body shops they (hiley mazda) uses. Anyone have any experience with Service King or Factory Finish?

Hey there man

I have experience with factory paint and finish - more then I'd like but they do great work.

Hiley pointed me to them when my car got egged - they did a fantastic job on the paint. Second time I made them do the work when my car got broken into, damage included broken out side window, broken out rear window, scratched trunk scratched and dented side and scratched rear speaker deck. They also did my tint job which im very pleased with. I think the guy's name is Miguel that runs it? I know he rides in a NICE ******* Merc Benz as well he gave me a ride in to get my rental. Very nice people.
