I moved from Austin to the Dallas area in November. You will love it, I lived there my whole life. Traffic sucks because of fast growth, and there is that whole Keep Austin Wierd thing.

Ahh, another velocity red. I've been seeing a lot of 8's in Austin recently and swear there was a silver that went everywhere I went today but got there 5 minutes before I did.

What part of town you looking at living in?

My office is over in RiverPlace so I'm looking up in Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock. I sort of cut an imaginary wedge out of the NW and started my search there. I'll have to check SW out; never looked down there.

Hey all you Austin 8ers--a bunch of us from DFW are going to drive down there in April and are wondering what to do, where to stay while we're there. We know we want to stay near 6th street so our drunk asses can walk back to the hotel room, but we don't know what's in the area. Any suggestions?

Yeah, Atlanta traffic just sucks! My commute in Atl is 45 miles 1-way and it takes a minimum of 1.5 hours. The record is 3.25 hours one morning when we had heavy rain, and someone flipped their car over on the Interstate.

The nice thing about Austin is you can still afford to live in close proximity to downtown (compared to Atl). Cedar Park area is like Dunwoody or Buckhead here. Except Dunwoody and Buckhead here have a median house price of $500K!

Well, depends on your fundage levels, so to speak... There are some great hotels right on or near sixth street (Driskell and Stephen F. Austin Inter-Continental to name 2). There are also some near I-35 and sixth (very short walk to main sixth area.. Omin and Sheraton), and some near I-35 and congress (15 minute or less walk, cheap cab ride; Hampton Inn, and Holiday Inn). But, also a great place to stay is on south congress called San Jose. Its got that eclectic feel to it (you might like it, you might not). All of these are downtown, but you can also find stuff just a short ways out and get a cab if your drinking. There are also a few near UT that are usually for visiting students (dont remember there name), but they aren't far from downtown.
