D/FW Auto Crossers

Do any other RX8 owners here auto cross? I only know of one other rx8 in the area that auto crosses. Locally I think PCA really has great organization, technical tracks, and a very friendly atmosphere. I plan on attending many more of there events next season.

Who else wants to go? Season starts in March.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, can you tell me what auto cross means? I've been wanting to attend some fun events, but I don't know what's going on in the area.

The current season has ended for most of the leagues in the area. In the area SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) is the most popular. There is also S200CA , PCA (Porsche Club of America), and a few others. The next season will start in March of 2005.

Events usually run from $20-$30... There are a few places around the area that they are held at. I personally like texas motor speedway the best (distance from home, surface condition, size of available track).

HAHHA, You are not an idiot. We are all ignorant before we ask questions. Here is a good link about auto crossing. http://www.pca.org/autox/index.html
This quote from the PCA site helps drive home a good point, "...learn how to drive your car at its limit."

Also http://www.autocross.com which was built and is owned by an active autocrosser from Fort Worth. It not only contains information about autocross, it also has a nationwide list of clubs, car setup information, breaking news, etc.

Worth a look.

Yes those are good mods for autocrossing, but the best mod is the driver. We will be very happy to have you there. I will keep you updated as the season approaches.

Do they ever have classes for total NOOB drivers? I've always wanted to autocross my Miata, but haven't had the guts to try it.

Additionally, on 'verts, is a rollbar required?

I know that when you sign up for one of the S2K club autocrosses, you can check a box to have an experienced driver ride with you. Makes for a relatively cheap learning experience.

If I remember correctly, the Texas Region SCCA has a "Novice" class that you can compete in for the first three events. An Instructor is always available to ride with you (in Houston, it is mandatory) for the first couple of runs.

Roll bars are NOT required in SCCA autocross (for a street car).

Show up at an event and have a blast.......

http://autocross.com/texasregion/ - Event 1 is March 6th.

they are a GREAT bunch of guys, you'll be glad you went.
