Archived Houston Monthly Meeting Threads
punishr (Dwight) talked to Mary today and she had no idea that we were coming tonight. Kieth can you clarify this please. She also stated that they can't handle a group as large as us with no notice.
ok.. here's the deal.
There is no problem with a group our size. I estimated 20 people (give or take 5) will be karting.
We do not have the track reserved (that takes quite a bit of cash to do) so we will be doing the "arrive and drive" thing. FYI: showing up a lil early will not hurt.
I would like to shoot for the first round of karts to hit the track around 7:15. This will not be a problem, unless a bunch of other folks show up and spoil our fun.

Houston Club get-together and autoshow trip ~ February 5th 2005
The Houston Club will be meeting at Joe's Crab Shack on the South Loop at 2PM. After some lunch and discussion the group will move over to the Houston Autoshow being held at the Reliant Center.
The Autoshow is open until 10pm so everyone will have plenty of time to check out this years hottest offerings. I have even learned there is a White RX-8 at the Mazda booth. So for those of you how haven't seen the White 8, this will be your chance.
Parking is 7 bucks and entry to the actual autoshow is 10 bucks. The manager at Joe's said that there would be no problem leaving a "few" cars in the Joe's parking lot. So buddy up and save a few bucks on parking if you like.
RECAP:
Meet at Joe's: 2pm
Eat at Joe's: 'til 4pm
Go-to Autoshow around: 4:30pm
For moe information about what is on display at the autoshow check out www.houstonautoshow.com
See you there!

Keith, it's been a while since I went to that Joe's with the club. Unfortunately I won't be there this time but I do remember very clearly the club getting surrounded by HPD for our caravan speed down 288.
It was a few years ago. Back then there was still an empty field across Kirby from the Astrodome. There's the practice field there now. We had a club meet where alot of cars turned out. We parked in that field for a picture with the dome in the background. After that we went to Herman Park for some other pictures. After that we left to hit 288 and then back around to 610 over to Joe's. There were probably 20+ cars in the caravan. Some got caugth at a light before 288 and others kept going. Some people were flying down towards the freeway and there were several cops sitting in a Luby's parking lot chatting. They hear loud exhausts and see a herd of cars go flying by. They chased us. Most of us were doing about 80 down the freeway but a few others were going faster. 4 HPD cars followed us into Joe's parking lot and blocked off the exits. They rounded us up and commented that they had to do 110+ to catch us and they also harassed many about no front license plates. After the scolding, they started looking at the cars and chatting with us for a while. No one got ticketed but we did get the crap scared out of us. Ah, the good old days!
Come one come all to Houston's biggest (monthly) rotary gathering. This will be the last winter meeting (early sunset) and will surely be a great meeting.
We will be discussing the Spring Day Trip (Scenic Drive) and maybe unwrapping the the details on a very special event in April.
The meeting will be held at Freebird's @ the Shepard Square. Located at Shepard and Hwy59. For more information about Freebird's visit their website. Look for the rotaries in the parking lot about 6:30 PM and be ready to eat some dinner around 7:15... and don't forget to same some room for an after-dinner retreat to Amy's for some ice cream.
See you there!
