Anyone know of good/honest audio installers
in or around Austin/Cedar Park/Leander? I've done the Best Buy thing and will never use them again. They messed up my Mustang GT system some years ago and I had a heck of a time trying to get them to admit their mistake and then correct it. I have a used RX8, Galaxy Gray Mica..stock. For now.

I do! Give Les a call at AudioFxAustin, they're the ones who did my system and they have a TON of experience with Rx-8's thanks to mine Website is in my signature, great bunch of guys to deal with too, will not rip you off or ruin your car or any of that other silly nonsense.

Great! Thanks for the tip. I'm really just wanting to keep the HU, but replace the speakers and amp, if that's possible. I've read thru some of the posts in the audio thread, but it's not easy getting a definitive answer over there.

It really all depends on if you have the Bose or not, the Bose system complicates things a bit since the speakers have bizarre impedances, Les can explain it better but basically they design their stuff to be almost entirely propietary for some odd reason.

I think some people have gotten by replacing tweeters and/or the 6x9's in the back but to be honest, if you're going to go through that then you might as well save up a couple of extra bucks and get a decent aftermarket radio, dash kit, and some decent speakers to go with it. If you do speakers just by themselves you're not really going to get much of an improvement as you're still stuck with lame factory headunit. You can get a pretty nice radio installed for a lot less than year's past due to the Metra kit being released, it will cost more than just a few speakers here and there but it might be worth considering if you really want to improve the sound. I know some folks on here have gotten by with just speakers, but in the systems I've heard there still wasn't a marked improvement, at least not enough to justify the cost in my opinion, plus you run the risk of blowing the Bose amp if you screw around with the impedance loads too much etc.
