And what exactly is wrong with just asking Pieter to send you the firmware files if you need an update?
Besides, I don't think he would at all appreciate me posting copies of his work here for all and sundry to download and mess around with. After all, it's his own proprietary intellectual property, and not for me to decide how to distribute.
So, if it wasn't clear in my previous post: those instructions are what you need to do IF you happen to need to apply a firmware update at some point in the future.

Ever upgrade a Linksys, Netgear, etc Router? How about upgrading a cell phone, or NAS, hell even a BIOS update on a computer or gee whiz an Access Port too (we used to get all kinds of updates there).... guess what they are... yup ... all firmwares.
Something that is expected by a customer base, in addition to having access to the actual updates, is published Release Notes for firmware identifying New Features, Bug Fixes, and Known Issues.
Pieter3d, It's nice that you've made an appearance. If you go into your inbox you'll find a message from me sent August of last year letting you know I had gotten the programmer and (assumedly) was waiting for next steps. You'll find that my enthusiasm, detected by merely reading the last couple pages of this thread, has progressively declined since then.

I had no idea. Has anything changed since Pieter stopped then? Was there ever a definitive solution to the scrolling lights effect, and I notice you mention a firmware update?

huh? Your logic completely escapes me. If someone took the time to decompile a firmware to the point of extracting usable code they could just as easily develop the entire solution themselves!

With products like the Access Port and the Goodbox, to a great extent the firmware is the product. They use cheap commodity hardware that anyone can get, but the firmware itself represents many hours of reverse engineering. If someone got the firmware, odds are you would see a clone selling out of Hong Kong on ebay for $50 within a couple months.
This hasn't happened with the Access Port because they encrypt their firmware updates and they use an Atmel processor which is full of anti-reverse engineering features.
I think it sucks, and I wish everything could be open with their work and not need to worry about getting ripped off by cloners, but I can see why Pieter might not want the firmware getting around too much.
Sorry for bringing up an old post.

The other question is would it address the maximum temperature reading of 70 for aftermarket head units? Or does it not address that part of the display?
It is definitely interesting, but not to the tune of a $220 or nothing bet.
Since there are apparently no S2 owners in Phoenix, could someone who lives out there go buy a new RX8...or maybe drag Silicon Desert a bit closer to Austin? Surely one of you has a ridiculously over-powered truck. No?
Ok. What can we do to test it on an S2 abroad? Unless someone has both, an S2 owner with an S1 only goodbox just bought a paperweight (and it doesn't look heavy enough to be a good paperweight), even with a healthy discount.
I'd volunteer on a money back offer, but I do not have an air-conditioned garage, and would not install the thing on our 112 degree days lately. It isn't a dry heat.
I haven't even installed the cold air intake yet. Why bother? There isn't any cold air to intake anyway. You know it is hot out when you start your RX8 for the first time in 2 days and the red line is already at maximum reading.
