....too much SAKE?
Are you asking who has installed your Coils Pack on a S2 (Series 2 RX-8?)
Or are you asking does a S2 have a 'base model' abs system.?
Take it in mate,
All S2 in every country has the it's own (only for the S2) and same ABS and All have DSC/TC.
And to verify, Only early S1's 'sport model' had the basic ABS with No DSC, Like Hoss-05, and J8's, and only in the USA/CAN region, seeing Mazda's EPC production dates are not accurate in this instance, it appears their could be more of these 'base' ABS (in S1) than I first tried to raw calculate from MAZDA's own EPC VIN's. (not easy to do).
Technically 2005 made RX-8's should not come 'without' DSC, but they do.
At a guess I would now say about 20-25K in USA/CAN market.
These Total S1 production numbers for all world markets (rough).
Series 1 in first year about 63K ,and next year 52K were made, then it dropped off to 20K, to about 3-5K every year till the Series 2 (mid 2008) with it's total worldwide production over 4 years to about < 29K.
Edit: Roughly half of these total RX-8 production numbers (units) end up in North America.

2006 USA manual w/10 psi Pro-charger in NH
Just finish installing between brake master & strut mount, will take pics if anyone interested.
Had LS setup for 3 years with multiple (four) failures. The last straw was coil failure on my first track day
Car is in my garage for track performance improvements & coil install. Did coil install while on blocks for suspension/brake work.
Ran out of time Saturday but was anxious to ensure coils worked.
Took it out for a 5 min trial below 4k rpm and all indications point to crisp coil performance.
Must finish tightening suspension bolts then will do some testing using my calibrated ****.

Yes, I would really like to see pics of your SB Coil mounting and any other alterations you did to fit, I know yours is a 2006, but I am still 'contemplating' investing in a SB Coil pack for my Series 2 while the Aussie Dollar still has 'some' value in it?
Being a RHD, my Brake Master and Vacuum unit is not in the way, but a bloody big OEM Windscreen and Headlamp Washer Bottle takes it's place.
Please post pics, thanks

Anyway, going on memory I think Mazda US stopped importing/selling the 'sport' model around 2006, or if the did still sell them they all came with DSC/TC.
I think in US like here all new cars must have DSC/TC, and naturally an ABS unit.
In your case I don't even think the ABS unit Mazda installed for 'non DSC/TC' is a Bosch branded unit?, like those with DSC/TC are Bosch, hence the change in physical appearance and mounting.
As we know all the OEM brake pipes to and from the ABS are also different.
As usual I am dribbling.....old age and too much Sake.

So how are you going with your SB Coil Pack, have you worked around the install yet and clearing of Leads/AC hose/ABS, etc ?

It's a tight fit but the hood closes and the location fulfills the intended purpose of mitigating the possibility of external heat damage as well as providing easy access if a coil replacement is necessary in between track runs.
Pics were taken during install, wires are not connected and tidy'd up.
I used SB's universal bracket and sandwiched an "L" shaped bracket, of my own design, in between the SB bracket plates.
It was an iterative process of reworking my bracket for proper alignment of the assembled pack.
Pic SBCOIL-3 shows half the coils removed to expose my bracket sandwiched between the SB bracket plates.
It's definitely shoehorned in there but real estate sure is scarce under that hood, not really any better location options.

I meant the decal you had packed for me. The wires I got a long time ago! They are awesome, and fit MUCH better than before!

So I was able to fit the unit yesterday. With the sport ABS unit sticking out a bit I used a big ole flat head screwdriver to help assist pushing the ignition leads onto the coils as my fingers just would not fit in the space. I would highly suggest this method to anyone installing it.
On the coil bracket I used a couple of six mm spacers I had sitting around to space out the L2 coil from the bracket. If I would have had the thread engagement on the cap screws I would have stepped it up to a 10-12mm spacer for a bit more clearance.
I also flipped the L2 coil on the bracket to avoid the AC line and move the connection point a bit rearward. I would be more comfortable with a bit longer L2 ignition lead but Sakebomb has agreed to send me a new one.

There is no more room, apart from where SakeBomb suggests install, and am still concerned about room.
I wont remove big Water Bottle.

Are there any Members here who have actually installed these SB Coil Packs (after removing the OEM's) on a Series 2 RX-8, (2009-2012) left hand or right hand drive?
How did your install go and any issues with clearance with the Series 2's ABS unit/plumbing/piping.
I think there was one guy, who bought pack, but cant recall his outcome..
Thanks again..

Sb offset coil install conclusion/review
Quick review of my SB Coil experience:
Packaging was exceptional
Wiring Harness' are top quality.
Plug wires are top quality, I truly love the boots.
Universal Bracket worked as intended, craftsmanship was very good.
Instructions were clear and nicely published.
Heath was friendly & helpful.
As far as performance, calibrated **** suggested engine performance was as good as it's gonna get. Sharp, crisp response all the way to 11 psi. No indication whatsoever of misfire from leading or trailing coils.
I'm very happy so far but move forward with guarded enthusiasm as I've had more than enough LS coil failures.
Good luck & good decision making to ASH8.

What high revving 2 stroke are these coils used on?

There's honestly ZERO need to worry about reliability of these coils. These have been absolutely put through the ringer in the FD community for the last 6 years, and have hundreds of customers running them with high dwell/duty cycles supporting well 500hp on a 13b with high boost and E85. We have a customer now going for 1200hp on a 13b... we'll report back as soon as he's off the dyno but we think the IGN-1A's will hang. Bang for buck, these are the best coils money can buy for the rotary.
It took the FD community a few years to come around... I think as more people install these the RX8 community will come around. These are the gold standard for FD's, and I have zero doubts the same will be said of these for the RX8 in a year.

They were designed for high HP two stroke marine racing motors. Look up Mercury Marine . The IGN-1A has been around for years... Chris Carlisi (rest in peace buddy) and myself worked together to do some of the first installations of these coils on rotary engines back in '05. They've taken time to catch on, but they're proven on the rotary. Back when we were doing these (before SBG even existed), Chris and I were running these on our personal 20b's... we just wanted THE best ignition setups, and spent lots of time digging through EFI101 where the documentation on these were spotty if that. As with all good things this took time to catch on... 5 years ago I realized no one was actually *selling* a plug a full play kit... so we made one.

Yeah I know they are used on Mercury Marine engines, I just don't know any of those that are high RPM engines (even the stern drive race engines are not). I was just curious what engine he was referring to exactly, since he is the second person I have seen parrot that same statement.

The point is, they were designed for TWO STROKE applications, vs 4 stroke applications. The link to the rotary being twice twice the ignition events per revolution versus 4 stroke motors. So where a standard 4 stroke v8 redline (lets take an LS motor for example) is around 6,000 RPM, if that were a 2 stroke piston motor the coils would be firing twice as often which is a 12,000 RPM equivalent. Just like the rotary.
The LS coils simply were not designed around these duty cycle, where as a coil designed specifically for a 2 stroke has this as a design requirement. Hence the effectiveness of these coils on a rotary, PLUS the high output potential of 103mj. 65-6800 RPM for a marine racing engine is "high revving" in the v8 world, but I doubt those number would impress anyone here as we do 9,000 easy. That said, on stock ECU's and Power FC ECU's on the FD (where we are stuck running the leading coils in waste spark), we're doubling the doubled equivalent 4 stroke RPM. So...9K RPM in a rotary is 18,000 RPM, and with the leading coils in waste spark that's 32,000 RPM equivalent on a 4 stroke piston motor . Half our FD customers (possibly more) run these in waste spark, and have been for 5+ years in large numbers. No issues, and more than enough spark for high boost motors. LS coils are not capable of doing this, and are completely over driven with rotary/2-stroke duty cycles.
The IGN-1A coils are time tested/proven on the rotary, and I've yet to see another comparable ignition coil. We've never prompted a single customer for a review... anything posted here is direct from customers with real-world experience. There's no conspiracy theory... these are the best coils out there for the rotary hands down.
(and FYI to anyone interested, these have just been NHRA certified for use in the 2016 pro-stock class... yes we've been selling quite a few of these to LS guys who are dumping their stock coils in favor of the IGN-1A. I can't say much more than that, but if you were at SEMA/PRI this year and had a good eye, you would have seen quite a few IGN-1A's under the hood ).

Ok fellas.
I'm someone who is inquisitive.
I grew up around boats and outboard motors.
I believed the statement about the high rpm 2 stroke application, so, after being challenged about it on more than one occasion, I decided to do some research.
First off, the IGN-1A is NOT a part number.
So after extensive digging I discovered the Mercury Marine Optimax XS SST 2 stroke outboard racing engine.
Peak HP @ 8000 RPM

^thanks for digging this up, and you're correct... IGN-1A is not the Mercury Marine part number... they just buy the coils, they don't make them  . They essentially commissioned them, but are not the manufacturer.
