Rosenthal Mazda Tysons Corners excellent mechanics and parts guys.
The local Mazda club holds regular DIYs there.
They give me a nice Mazda club discount to boot.
Worth fighting the traffic

They have to have the friendliest service writer in the world, she is always extremely friendly and polite, offers options, and does not try to sell you worthless services.

There is also a mechanic named Travis who has worked on many of my Rx-7's and my Rx-8, very nice and knowledgeable, lets you in the shop to show what's exactly going on. He saved my 1987 FC from burning to the ground. The fuel rail had cracked, thank god I was right in front their shop when it happened. They came out with fire extinguishers and saved her! Four days later and $300 bucks my FC was purring with all new lines and some fresh oil on the house.

When I brought my Rx-8 there over 7 years later I was greeted by the same two people, who remembered me (not sure if that was a good thing lol) and I got the same great service as before. Got a compression test, decarb and diagnosis for $147 out the door. I was told the problem (2 bad coils) and he even mentioned how easy they were to change and I could get them cheap from an autoparts store. Great people.

Don Miller Mazda, Madison, Wisconsin - POSITIVE - Everything from shopping for, buying the vehicle, and subsequent vehicle maintenance/service has been above expectations. Mazda stands behind the vehicles they build, and this dealership with a service department staffed with several rotary engine mechanics who have been working on REs since the early days of the RX-7, extends Mazda professionalism. I have had nothing but good experiences with this dealership, and would recommend anybody who is looking for a Mazda to buy or to have their vehicle serviced to take it there. I have had a simple oil change all the way to a complete engine swap done there, with no complaints. Dealerships typically have a bad rep for not taking care of their customers after they drive off the lot. This dealership truly turns that on its head.

I've gotta give big Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda his props..... owns two FDs, one with a 20B Mandeville motor (Chris Carlisi's old FD) and pretty much has every RX-7 and most RX-8 part #s memorized, lol. A huge asset to the community.

You can reach him at HMKParts@aol.com or by phone direct at (703) 490-5296 :)

Moon Township... Great Dealer... service maybe?

So my affair with Moon Township Mazda dates to 2003 when I bought my protege5. I test drove one out at Billco in the North Hills, and they were super nice, but as the Protege5 was being phased out by the Mazda 3, I was told that they couldn't locate one with all the specs that I wanted at any price range. I went to Rohrich and they had one that was pretty close to what I wanted but they also wanted $18k for it. I finally tried Moon Township, and not only did they find EXACTLY what I wanted, they had it for me in less than a week, and it cost me $14.5k (sticker was $19.4k). Super nice, super professional, and very efficient. Couldn't ask for more from a dealer.

On the other hand, their service department was so awful back then that I planned to never go back after my first four-hour oil change with an appointment. But I did go back because I had a faulty key fob transmitter that deprogrammed itself that for some reason was not under warranty even though the car was purchased new from them and the car had under 20k miles?? It cost me something absurd... I want to say like 50-100 bucks.

I gave them really bad reviews on their surveys over these, and since then, their service department has been trying to woo me back with coupons and assurances that their service department has been restaffed and all that.

I'm willing to try them out again now that I have an 8 simply because I figure at least a Mazda dealer should understand RX-8's better than random dudes at Pep Boys or Firestone. On the other hand, I'm learning what I can from this site so that I can do a lot more with it myself instead of having to bring it to a dealer. Still, it's good to know which ones have a good rep from this site

Good dealership:

Mazda of Lakewood
7999 West Colfax Avenue
Lakewood, CO 80214

Above and beyond service center, very knowledgeable rotory technician.

This dealership performs the most engine replacements in the country. Their service staff is professional, helpful, intelligent, respectful, and quick.

They gave me a huge deal on my engine replacement, including the labor to install some extra parts within the engine replacement warranty. Also ordered factory parts to replace what I was replacing with my performance parts (motor mounts, flywheel) so I have brand new stock parts if I want to swap back at anytime.

Great service, great guys. If you are in Colorado, pay their service department a visit!

Nelson Mazda of Nashville, TN: POSITIVE. Helpful, informative, and kind. Able to walk right in without and appointment and get my compression tested. Recommend them over Nelson Mazda of Cool Springs.

I know it's been awhile since anyone has posted here, but just FYI for anyone is the Palm Beach area, Grieco Mazda (formerly Delray Mazda) in Delray Beach, FL has been AWESOME... I don't have a lot of space or the tools required to do much of the reg maintenance that I used to, so unfortunately it's much easier to take it in..having several things done (trans fluid, diff fluid, LOF, and brakes) .
I'd originally planned to drop it off and pick up later - had an emergency with work that required me to change my schedule; explained to the SA that I needed to change my appointment, but she then told me not to worry - bring it in, and she'd have a loaner fueled up and ready for me so that I could still service the RX and take care of what I needed.
Additionally, the tech working on my car -who also happens to be the shop foreman - called to let me know that my brake pads were in fact fine, and the issue that was causing false tell-tell signs was due to the previous dealership NOT reinstalling pad shims and clips. Installed new shims, clips, and resurfaced rotors and also evened out the pads for correct contact, etc. and additionally, told me they wouldn't charge for the resurfacing! This made me happy and saved me the $200.00 the dealership I used to take it to would've been dishonest about and charged me..

To top it off, the Customer Service Manager called me later today to make sure i'd been taken care of and to see if there was anything else they could do to help me out. Would def recommend them!

South Tacoma Way Mazda: Positive!

They have a master rotary mechanic on staff full time and he knows his stuff. First time I went in he came out to talk to me, asked about how Minvera (that's my Red '05) was driving, if she had had all her recalls etc etc. Was my first trip in the area. The service was spectacular and I went from the high end of OK compression to the mid range of GOOD compression, was a fresh buy and needed some love.

They are working hard to keep the rotary love strong, and gave me a good discount on the work, much more than the advertisments. Have gone back twice for minor things and the service is still spectacular.

Piazza Mazda, West Chester, PA

Only been there a few times, but every time was just in-and-out. No hassle, problem diagnosed, repairs done, fair price charged, and I was on my way. They never seemed big on smiling or small talk -- but they listened, were polite, and helped me out without wasting a moment of my time. It felt like they were completely focused on trying to be an effective service department -- no more, no less.

Also, it was always easy to get an appointment at the time I wanted. That was a HUGE bonus for me, given my schedule and impatience.

Decent lot, too. Last few times I was there, they had a good number of MX-5s and manual cars.

As long as my engine and powertrain warranties last, I'll be coming here. That's despite the ~45 min trip each way, when there's another dealership <10 mins away from me (that one's not so good). Might still keep coming afterward, honestly. 100% worth it, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

2017-10-06 Update: Just had my engine replaced under warranty here. Still awesome. :]

WAYNE MAZDA, Wayne, NJ
Continues to be quite positive going on 11 years. Of course, the fact that they love my 8 - say it's the nicest they've seen - and the fact that they've never had to repair anything of consequence - does make me biased.
;)

Sad news: One of the best is gone; Rosenthal Arlington Mazda closed up shop earlier this year.

Dennis Dillion (Service), Boise Idaho

Had an okay experience at Dennis Dillion service in Boise Idaho. It was an all day affair to get a new used RX-8 PPI'd, compression tested, fluid flush and some recalls and addressing a AC issue caused by some rodents, but overall I think it was worth the cost. The service adviser was a bit of a drone though, absolutely no emotion even when saying they could not fix my AC system.. had to keep checking on him to make sure he was putting the car back in the right queues for services.
