WiFi at Indy 500?

Hi all,

I'm headed to the Indy 500 this weekend. I'm trying to figure out if they will have wifi access so I can bring my laptop and download streaming video feeds. I checked the Indy500 website and they didn't have any info.

I did find out that the cars will be using wireless routers and wifi for telemmetry.

So now All I need to do is figure out how to hack into their signal and download their audio and video feed.

Seriously though I search google and on this site and wasn't able to find anything. Anyone know if They have a service I can hook into Free or otherwise?

I was at Indy last year for the F1 race and didn’t see one person there with their laptop. You could rent those little hand held TV radios that link into each driver's car and watch who you want.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just think it would be really cool to see some of the stats from the cars as they're running and hear the radio chatter.

I'm really looking forward to it. It's going to be great!

Hi all,

I just got back yesterday afternoon from Indy. The 500 was great! To answer the question there was no wifi available at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. What they did have is the ability to buy a RF scanner and they published the frequencies of the announcers, drivers, and radio announcer. This was a nice feature but they could do so much more if they provided wifi feeds of the same information available to say ESPN or broadcast television.

Hopefully we'll see more in the next few years since now the cars will have wifi compliant routers in them to transmit data.

We had a scanner and plugged in 3 sets of headphones into it through a headphone splitter. It was pretty cool. We could program each drivers freq. into a numerical memory slot and then cycle through them manually or on a scan mode that would wait to see if there was any conversation and if not move on. It also included the radio announcer as well as the race PA announcer. It was definitely worth it as it was cool to hear the chatter between the crew chief and the racers when the yellow flags came out.

I stuck around after the first rainfall and was able to watch the end of race. They ran very clean until just before the rain came. It was crazy that the winner came from just a roll of the dice by the crew chief. His team decided to stay out while all the leaders pitted during the first yellow flag just before the end of the race. After than they didn't even have a chance to run a full speed lap due to the following two yellows and then it started raining. I guess that's part of the game.

I highly recommended going even if you're not specifically an Indy car fan.

Cool news. I know I came late to the open-wheel racing as a fan (apparently it was awesome before the split), but I have enjoyed watching the series for the past couple of years.

I watched the race on television and it was pretty entertaining. I feel pretty bad for Marco and Kannan because they were doing well before the second half of the race. I was never much of a fan for the Ganassi or Penske cars, so now I guess I'm going to see how Franchiti does for the rest of the year.

I was very disappointed. I hated waiting for the rain to quit. The win was bogus and Ashley Judd was annoying as hell.
Better than the 2005 USGP though.

^^ They should run on rain tires like F1. Them's the breaks when it comes to racing though. I agree Franchitti was never really in contention so the outcome would have been different if the rain hadn't come. All the same I guess thats part of the strategy.
