The French??? I believe you mean the Italians!

Edit: Of course, Bugatti is now owned by the Volkswagen-Audi Group (along with Porsche), so I guess you mean the Germans.

The founder, Ettore Bugatti, was Italian. The company was in Molshiem, Alsace. If I remember correctly Alsace is a region that sometimes is French and sometimes is German. Depends on which period between wars you check the ownership.

So there you have it! A Bugatti is an ItaloFrancoGerman car. Does not bode well for reliability.

By your definition, Audi TT's are Hungarian cars because they're built in Györ, Hungary. BMW Z4's and X5's are American cars because they're built in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I'm sure there are many other examples.
[/nitpicking]

The generally accepted definition is the car is a product of the country where its manufacturer is based, where the car is designed. Maybe that made Bugatti originally a French brand (I didn't know it was headquartered in Alsace). But not because of where the cars are built.

Yup, I saw it on-track at the Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca 2 weeks ago - it tested on the Friday, and on the Saturday it paced the Bugatti race (43 Bugattis, ranging from early '20s to mid-30s!). I didn't get a close-up look at it, though.

Regards,
Gordon

The sole purpose of this car is to beat the McLaren F1's top speed record of 241mph (I think that's it...). It was even mentioned a while ago.

However, I don't think they will do it. Cars have come out with 1000 horses before and not been able to engineer their car up to the McLaren's sophisticated levels.

But we'll see ...

As a production car, the McLaren F1 has already been bested by the 655hp KoenigSegg. Right-click-save-target-as. It's a keeper video.

But the thing is, the F1 Does 200+mph day in day out.

Is very reliable (if not cheap to service).

Not sure any other supercar will be the same, amazing considering the F1 was made an age ago (in car terms).

Oh, daft french update:

After testing its discovered that the poor car is so unstable at high speeds its forever limited to 330km/h or 205mph.

Only a complete redesign will fix it. lol, poor bugatti
