The Evo is for people who care about performance above all Else, there was a time when Ferrari's and other supercars were the same way, stripped down interiors with few creature comforts and in many cases with supercars the craftsmanship and tolerances were shoddy. Yes they were very attractive cars, but people loved them for their performance more than anything.
It's not really clueless to say I don't understand why someone would love an ugly looking car. A lot of the poeple that own it think it's not very attractive. I pointed out already that i respect it for it's speed, and grip. Why does that mean that I should like it? The point I was making is they could put that powertrain in a dozen other cars and at least it would look nice as well as being functional. You said yourself Ferrari's were attractive. Even the Porsche discussed looked nice. Hell, to this day Ferrari's are stripped down in many ways. They still look very nice, and thats what gets peoples heads turning.

I just...don't care about speed and performance as much as the next guy, guess thats why I got an RX-8. That doesn't make me clueless (something I kinda take offense to) it just shows that we differ on whats importaint. You have a WRX, I like those cars a lot, same idea as the EVO (kinda) but at least they made the WRX look a lot nicer.

I only say clueless because you just can't grasp that it being ugly is an opinion and that many people love it simply for the performance and the rest doesn't matter a whole lot. There really are people out there that love the looks of the Evo as well. I prefer the WRX/STi for looks, but the stance of the Evo is very appealing to me. One of my favorite cars of all time is the E30 M3, for some reason I like the boxy look with fender flares. If they took all the characteristics of the Evo and put it in an RX-8 shell or a more attractive sleeker body yes I'd probably like it more, but something tells me it would be closer to 40k at that point because a lot more money would have to be dumped into design.

speaking of lovely evos, i was in the middle east a few years back and i saw a beautiful evo V that was set up for rally racing...it had an awesome sound to it, it was spewing flames and was exteremely fast... Evo V is my favorite evo btw.

I agree with Rupes. Even if the EVO had 1000 hp with a 0-60 time of 1 second, it wouldn't be on my list. Its just personal preference. I would much rather own a Lamborghini, Ferrari, or some other exotic. I would even consider a Porsche over a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

The only thing you've gotta say about it is UGLY! you know what? my RX8 is UGLY. GODAWFUL. Its busier than a f'ing LA highway. It's got more curves than tail of the dragon, the tailights look like a work from Dali (yack!), the wheel gap is bigger than the Grand Canyon

:p

But I love it for what it is....

And, btw, I hope you know you can get an STi / Evo w/o wing.

je....the killer motor, wing, and dress up sound like the RX8 in the case of Mazda.

The evo is like an ugly ****, yeah she screws, but do you really want to be seen in public with her?

Where as, with a real supercar, you don't mind doin it with the lights on

Well, it really depends. Maybe I want to show the dude that paid extra to get a one night...that I spent less, and I am getting the same. When the lights turn off.... :D

Do you realize that the EVO is only $30k? That's 1/3 the cost of a new Porsche and 1/10 the cost of a Lambo or Ferrari. I don't think anyone in their right mind would cross shop an EVO with a Ferrari.

That's pretty much the way that the Supras, GTRs, Ferraris, and Porsche's of old were designed. They took a basic design and then added aerodynamic aids as needed. Have you ever seen an old Porsche with a whale-tail spoiler, or a Supra with it's large, barely functional spoiler? What about a GTR, with it's sedan based body and powerful engine? Those were cars whose performance is approximately equal to (or even less than, in some cases) that of the Evo and STi and whose designers followed the same basic template (take a car, drop a great engine under the hood and gaudy but functional spoilers), but you forgot to mention them. Form follows function in the design of all of those cars, which is as it should be for a car geared toward performance. The engineers who designed them understood that the feel from the driver's seat is more important than the view from the side of the road (although most people agree that these vehicles are attractive). Unfortunately, many people just can't bring themselves to understand why outward appearance isn't the most important aspect of a performance car's design. They also forget that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I really like the way that STis look. It looks aggressive without seeming rediculous, even with its boxy lines. I also like most of the Evo's design except for the corporate grill in the front. The Evo VI and VII were good looking cars IMO and I hope that the corporate look goes away when the next generation Evo comes out. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the looks, everyone agrees that the Evo and STi offer great performance for the price, and that is what they were designed to do.

I think we used to call those kind of girls, er, I mean cars, "mopeds".... fun to ride but wouldn't ever want to be caught in public on top of her. :D

Well, If I had a extra 70 to 100 grand to play with I would want a Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo too!!

I have much respect for Evo's, and they have truly amazing potential. But I could never have one as a daily driver, just not what I was looking for in a car.
