My favorite was when I was sitting at a traffic light. This redneck in a ragged out (the bondo didn't cover all the rust holes) old Camaro pulls up next to me in the turn lane with his almost toothless girlfriend. He looks over at me several times then when he gets the green turn arrow spins his tires and nearly loses it trying to make his turn. I wasn't impressed.

It's a nice neighborhood, right around 60th and KK River Parkway. Most of my neighbors are old as dirt and very sweet. Besides that there are a ton of teachers, police, and fire fighters in the area since it's right on the Milwaukee city limits border. It's been quite the transition going from Chicago, then the Eastside Milwaukee, and then to where I am now... We wanted to stay on the eastside but didn't want a condo and any of the houses we liked were 500k+.

thats pretty solid. yea that would be a big transition. it was a big transition for me going from little city of watertown to waukesha. i cant say i have seen a blue evo around, but i have seen a couple yellow, dark silver and black ones. i will just have to look harder.

"280hp stock. Aftermarket, it's 480."

"Those are drift tires, cause they're in the rear. The guy's drifting."

"That's a sports car. It's pretty much illegal to have."

"First of all, it's right wheel drive."

"This car is JDM Imported! JDM imports every car."

"That's an all wheel drive car, unless he changed the drivetrain. You have to swap the drivetrain with a f*ckin Silvia, then you have rear wheel drive in there. It gives you way more, like, drag speed."

"Looks like a Ferrari. Looks like a 240SX doesn't it?"

That's a pretty good example of the little idiots I'm dealing with. I've been asked 4-5 times if I drift and if I have a RWD or AWD Evo... I blame that one on TF&TF and Rhys Millen.

So I gave an RX-8 owner a bit of a hard time and then wtfpwned him. He had it coming since he has a stupid first name like Uno. I don't see what the big deal is...

Talk to anyone who has been in the racing or aftermarket scene since at least 1998 and they will tell you how much they absolutely hate the Fast and the Furious. I had a good discussion with a well known tuner shop owner here in Phoenix and his replay was that he hates that movie. It's forced him to waste time and effort on customers who don't have the slightest clue what modifying or racing a car entails.

Phoenix has a couple local hangouts which back up a lot of the things Ike has been saying. We have some nice cars out here but there's plenty of junk as well. Hell I was at a car show a couple weeks ago and some guy walks by my RX8 and after he inspected my motor he mumbles "it's only got 2 pistons", shrugs his shoulders and walks off.

I nearly spit my drink out after hearing that.

I was shuttling a couple 18 year olds out to Canyon lake a couple weeks ago and all they could ask me is "what does this car top out at?" and "do you do any drifting?" as well as being somewhat snobbish about my horse power numbers cause I didn't have some mad JDM turbo. When I got into the twistys in the mountains though they suddenly forgot how "slow" the RX8 was cause they were too busy screaming like little girls.

People think slapping on an intake, painting some parts, and a cat back suddenly makes them super fast. Hollywood has glamorized the racing scene and now everyone thinks they are a "street racer" when all it is, is a contest to see who will let off first.

Put any of these roll racers on the race track and they will go home crying to mommy. Problem is, half of them won't pass tech and those that would don't have enough cash to pay to get in. I had a guy with a spray painted and poorly running Miata tell me he's put $26,000 into his car! Hell, $26,000 would buy you a brand new MX-5 GT with all the trims and even some gas money. I laughed and he looked at me like I was from outer space.

I'm with you Ike, I don't understand how these people do it. I've been a member of RX8 club since December of 2005 and have under 200 posts currently. I read WAY more than I post because I want to learn. Still, when somebody who knows more than I do says something I shut up and listen.

Hell, ask MazdaManiac...I used to come with a list of questions and hope to god I could understand half of what he told me.

My turn was some 300 feet further down the street but I had to come to an abrupt complete stop. There was absolutely no cars behind me and I don't think I was even accelerating that hard. Why do people consistently get on the inside of left turn lanes when they know they are going to have to get over to make a right turn? Just a small example of the idiot drivers here (probably everywhere) that seem to totally change their driving style when in the presence of any type of performance-oriented car. That's my rant.
That sounds like something he would do . I was in the passenger seat when he tried to show off to me on a busy and pot hole wrecked 3 lane/narrow highway. He was cutting in and out of traffic and he missed a Geo Metro in front and an Escalade on his left by a few inches. He swerved and nearly lost control of the car but ended up recovering on the far left lane... Obviously he's a dumb *** and me screaming stop doesn't help. I longer take rides with him any more. Oh yeah, he got a Turbo badge too.

Yes, F&F have definitely decimated the intelligence of people who watch them with no clue. I, however will admit I like the first movie because it is HILARIOUS, its one of those movies that is funny without intending to be funny, much like Commando, or almost any Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.

P.S. Ike track weekends are coming...

Try working at a Tuner shop. It gets out of control some times.. Guys calling in about how they want Hi-flow Cats on their Ford Ranger truck, or when our techs who have been in the scene for years, tells a customer what they think & that customer goes: well this is what I heard on the internet and thinks the tech is wrong. Had it happen just last week when a guy bough some plugs for his car. Tech told him to close the gap some since he was running a turbo & nos.. Pretty much the end of the conversation ended up like this; Tech: Do what ever you want, just trying to help you out.. Customer: Blank stare...

People like to blame the Fast & The Furious a lot.. But pass the buck along onto the Internet.. The internet degrades a lot of these kids also.

This sounds like the Waco (Wacko), TX street scene. I remember me and some friends parking at a Hastings one night and and as we were getting out of his WRX, a SRT-4 (this was right after they came out) comes shooting up and the driver is like, "What's sup?" then says "It's nice to see some other forced-fours in the area..." What? LOL.

The street scene there consisted of a shitload of barley street legal Stangs and Camaros (some not barely street legal cause of power/parts but cause of the inability to pass safety inspections) that would go back and forth down the "strip". Then you had the imports which were 90% stock powertrains, barely running cars with primered parts big wings and fart cannons but little else which included: 10-15 different 2g Eclipses with all the same ridiculous bodykits (mostly red) that were all cracked, shedding paint, hanging off, and many with dwarfed, tiny little wheels; of course all the usual Civics (there was one that actually had no doors one time which I thought was highly illegal but we were in Waco); some laughable mid 90's Grand Ams/Cavilers trying to fit in and sprinkled throughout were the trucks. The trucks were usually massive, load, and regularly spewing black diesel smoke but always "racing" the imports. The cops would patrol on occasion and it was always this: a car would peelout from a light or take off real fast, then cop on his tail, pulled over in a parking lot, everyone out of the car, with the cop talking to the driver, then 2 more cop cars would pull up. Were I lived was only a few blocks from this area so on Thu, Fri, and Sat, all night you would here V8's diesel trucks, and ragged, Pepboys-mufflered 4-cylinders racing form light to light. There were, on occasion some really nice muscle cars/street rods/ vettes/vipers that would make some appearances as it seemed the older crowd would still cruise sometimes. I don't know how many times we would make a point to go thru this area for some good laughs.

Don't even bother, all you will see is a bunch of clapped out junk. You might see some decent iron at Oscar's, but the Krispy Kreme where all the import hang out is a bunch of 17 year olds.

Yeah, but even if you own them, they will have no idea of said ownage, which kinda defeats the purpose.

We should round up the CRB crew and show them what time it is

As for trackdays, the wedding has made me poor for the time being. Still need some track tires and a little suspension work. Hopefully once we have the "reception" around here we'll actually get some cash to pay off the debt we've accumulated and I can get what I need.

When I get stupid questions, I usually tell them to shift into "D" to drift. Only dumb question I'd answer is "What have you got under the hood?" because I do think spreading the word about the rotary engine is a good thing.

Thankfully, I live in West Lafayette, Indiana, home of one of the top engineering schools in the country. In fact, I attend Purdue University pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I don't get stupid questions that often. Hell, there's even this kid who's a Physics major and has absolutely NO INTEREST in cars who can tell me accurate facts about the rotary engine.

All the rednecks hanging around don't hurt either. I'd rather listen to their V8 dribble than the "tuners". I used to like tuner culture, and drifting and stuff, but the people pretty much ruined it for me.

I have a friend who thinks his Grand Am V6 is a barely road legal race engine... God does the Internet suck.
