Exclamation TOOL TALK: wich service jack is the best?

i need some advice from all you rx8club.com people on wich service jack i should buy im looking for something light weight enough for me to carry and for it to maybe fit inside the trunk of my RX-8 ive been checking out the one from snap on and blue point >> http://news.thomasnet.com/fullstory/452385/1424 the price seems abit crazy --400 bucks from the snap on website but it comes with (2) jack stands. so could i find this one cheaper somewhere else or are there any similar to this out there that im overlooking?

thanks

With my 240SX lowered I have had problems finding a jack that will fit under the subframe rails (I don’t like using the pinch-welds). I ended up purchasing an aluminum 2-ton "race" jack from Jegs for $150. It is basically the same thing you linked to (minus the stands) for less than 1/2 the price. Snap-On makes great tools, but they are way over priced IMO. I can get them 50% off at my college and they are still more expensive than Craftsman.

I was wondering about this too. Now with my bodykit I can't fit my old jack under anymore.

....and they are still better than Craftsman. If you were making a living with hand tools you would be a Snap-On customer.

True, but Craftsman is made for the weekend mechanic or homeowner. They don't need the best tools around, just stuff for occasional use.

I have no problem going in from the side of the car to reach the frame rails or going in the back to get to the differential. However, I never bring the jack in from the front. While I do not recall the height of the jack on the handle side, it is fairly low. I whish I could provide you with dimensions, but I'm at college and the jack is at home.

Now that we are talking about Jacks. Where is the safe spot for a Jack on our 8's?
Thanks

Question Check the manual for some safe spots

It shows the standard locations for tire work in the manual and the stock scissor jack stradles the pinch weld. I cut a slot in a piece of 2 X 4 to duplicate the clearance on the stock jack so I could gently use my cheapo floor jack. Works great!
I'd be interested in other safe spots - differential?, struts? - etc
